Admitted for Fall, 2007...Now What?

Hi all…my daughter has been admitted to ASU for Fall, 2007. She is an OOS student from Maryland. Admitted about a month ago, sent in her housing deposit. Apparently, ASU doesn’t want/need enrollment deposits. I called to find out what are the next steps, and the admissions counselor said just to wait until my daughter receives a mailing about orientation.

Seems a bit odd that ASU assumes that unless they receive a notice from the student that they don’t plan to enroll, they assume all acceptances will enroll.

Anything I am missing? Anything else we need to do?

(My D also checked out the U of A, but fell in love with ASU once she stepped foot on the campus.)

Thanks for any comments.

The only thing now is to sign up for housing and orientation as soon as you are able. Students register at orientation, so there is an advantage to doing orientation early. You can choose between doing it on campus or one of the regional orientations they hold all over the country. You will find the administration to be very responsive and efficient – something that isn’t often said about state schools. Your daughter should be considering which dorm she wants to live in so she can line that up now. I was amazed that they didn’t want an enrollment deposit or confirmation and were prepared to handle all accepted students who showed up, but that is the case.

“they assume all acceptances will enroll”

Actually, I think they assume quite the opposite. I think think the lack of enrollment fee is a good option for some students who realize they can’t afford or do not get accepted into some other schools. So, they do not get penalized for choosing ASU a little later. UofA requires an enrollment fee.

I would recommend to keep checking the ASU website for orientation info, your request will be received a lot faster than through the mail. If your daughter is in the Honors College, she will get priority registration.

What should you do if your not sure you want to go? is it still ok to sign up for housing?

I would sign up for housing. Although you have to give a non-refundable deposit, if you don’t sign up by march, then they can’t guarantee a room. I would do it just in case you end up wanting to go.

Thanks christalena2,I might be going here and that bit of info helped.Fork 'em Devils!

The nonrefundable housing deposit is small and well worth it rather than risk not being able to get housing – or the housing you would prefer.

^^ yes yes, very true.
