Admitted last year as a first year, trying to transfer now

So I was admitted last year and had to decide between UVa and VT’s architecture program and subsequently went for architecture which i now realize was a mistake. I’m wondering if already getting in before will affect being admitted as a transfer. I have this irrational worry that they will hold a grudge/ say i already missed my chance haha

any opinions?

greg- I’m not an admissions officer but I very strongly doubt that anyone would “hold a grudge” against you- they don’t have time for that sort of thing and anyway they simply aren’t going to take whatever decision you previously made personally. On the other hand, you must realize that having been admitted before is no guarantee you would be accepted again, since a number of circumstances may have changed.

Yeah I realized their was probably no way they would. Also, after once semester of college, I don’t believe any circumstances have really changed at all concerning my application/ transcript but know that anything involving such a prestigious university isn’t a guarantee. It’s almost as if I didn’t get in a second time I would hate myself for passing the opportunity up once. I’m worried the transfer admissions will be more competitive and an application that got me in as a first year won’t do the same for me as a transfer.

I’m don’t believe that transfer admissions is more competitive. With only one semester of college, the adcoms will still rely heavily on your HS grades, scores, EC’s and they were obviously up to UVA’s standards otherwise you would not have been admitted. I would venture to say that if you maintained a high level of success in your first semester and your essays reflect your goals and why UVA is now the right place for you to achieve those goals then you should stand a pretty good shot.

“I’m don’t believe that transfer admissions is more competitive.”

Good thing people don’t believe everything they hear. Transfer admissions is usually more competitive (better students with better grades are applying for an array of colleges, from Georgetown to community colleges). Transferring into the Comm School and the A-School is very very difficult. In the A-School they only offered 11 seats to transfer students and the comm school offered 35 seats. Transferring into CLAS and Engineering (the acceptance rates) are about the same in comparison to first-year admissions (some years the acceptance rates from transfers is lower and some are higher).

Why do you want to transfer?

I realized the major i’m in here, which is the only reason i came to tech, is not what i want to do for the rest of my life. I want to transfer for the better education and opportunities UVa can provide.
