Admitted Texas A&M Class of 2029! Whoop

In 2019, my daughter was in the very first time slot, and that year they were ‘experimenting’ with the selection process. Even with practically a handful of freshman selecting at that time, the system still crashed :woman_facepalming:t2:

My daughter & her roomie got what they wanted-2 person suite in Hullabaloo (I think they have tweaked/changed the name slightly).

Your son’s dorm deposit date isn’t terribly great-being honest. If he can match with a roomie that has a higher selection time, that’s ideal! If not, he needs to rank literally EVERY dorm, because beds will disappear before his eyes. There’s no time for hesitation, trying to remember which dorm he liked next best.

If you have a friend with a higher selection time, ask them to go into housing portal the night before your time, and and scope out what’s still available.

Appreciate your candor - this is really helpful info. Really great tip to find someone who can scope out what’s available right before your time! Really does sound like a Hunger Games scenario :face_with_spiral_eyes:

assuming mid October isn’t much better?

Unless your student paid housing deposit the first 1-3 days of the earliest round of acceptances, they need have a plan, be prepared. There could be some beds available in Hullabaloo & Northside Modulars-if student is willing to take the 2nd bed in a room with the other bed already occupied.
There will definitely be NO true Single rooms available.

Student will get a room, but probs not their 1st choice dorm. Good news is, rarely do you ever hear of students or parents complaining about dorms once school starts. It all works out.

The dorm selection process is truly Hunger Games, not for the faint of heart.

It appears that my son just received the Community Connection Scholarship. It looks like it was awarded by our regional recruiting office. I didn’t even know this was possible but we are incredibly thankful for this. Other than his tuition waiver for being Valedictorian, he wasn’t getting anything from TAMU. He was offered so much from other schools but he just didn’t want to attend anywhere else. I’m wondering if it is because he has participated in many of the events that they offered throughout the past year. Does anyone happen to know anything about this scholarship?

Congrats! Every little bit helps!
You can always google TAMU Scholarships. Here’s the blurb about what his says.

*Tell him to make note (I always had my student forward me the scholarship email, and I printed it out); some scholarships/awards require a formal Thank You letter to the donor/some don’t. If one is required, there will be specific instructions on how & when (definitely after school starts).

Thank you. We saw this little bit written about it. I can’t tell you how happy I am that he got something in relation to TAMU. He was not National Merit so we didn’t expect a thing.

Congrats on this surprise award! That’s awesome! May I ask how much it was for?
My son attended a new Aggie event in Austin this past weekend and a couple of kids were given a scholarship ($1,000 and $500) for attending the event (it was a random draw) and they also gave one Fish Camp scholarship as well!

Sure, its $1500 for each Freshman semester totaling to $3000. A few weeks ago we went to our local San Antonio New Aggie event where they had drawings for two $1000 scholarships and his name wasn’t drawn there. I honestly thought that would be all they were giving out.

That’s a really good one, $3k!

Congrats on the scholarship!!

Mine won a scholarship from the local Aggie club (former student club)! We are going to their muster ceremony on Monday where they will present/introduce all the recipients.

Did y’alls students sign up for FISH camp already? Don’t know how quickly they fill up but mine signed up and got the session she wanted, whew!

Thank you! Congrats to you too!

Yes, my son has signed up for FISH camp and Impact camp. He got the sessions he wanted as well. He wanted to spread them out as much as possible but didn’t want the first session of FISH camp so he chose session B for FISH and Omega session for Impact.

Mine signed up for session B too! I know a few others who signed up for B too

Doing both-Fish and Impact-will be a LOT. Mine did both, and I wish she had only done one. She didn’t really enjoy either that much.
I’d suggest one…or the other.
My $.02 worth…

I think it depends on the student. mine went and liked them both but preferred impact. but then again, he’s been to summer camp for multiple years so maybe he’s just a “camp kid”. I signed my '29 up for both as well.

Mine went to 2 week out of state camp for 11 years + church camp…she was definitely a ‘camp kid’.
She’s a 3rd gen Aggie, won Most Red Ass in her sorority, so she’s a hard core Ag.
She definitely found going to both was overload, super tiring right before Rush, and just TOO much.
She preferred Impact over Fish Camp, also.

I know many Catholic students opt for the camp offered thru St. Mary’s.

Hi, when is the camp offered through St Mary’s? Also in summer or once the semester starts?

Here’s the link to AggieCatholic. Their freshman ‘camp’ is around the time of Fish & Impact.
I’m sure you can find it on their website, or ask them. It’s very popular!

We did sign up my daughter for FISH camp and she got the session she wanted too. We were signing up at 12pm on the 15th because wasn’t sure how soon it would fill. She wanted Session A :-).

This is more of a note for future housing applicants.

D29 got a ResLife Housing email today, as I’m sure many of you got as well.

Excerpt:

If you have priority permanent housing and applied before December 1st, you will receive a timeslot to select a room for yourself, and your roommate if you have one. Timeslot notifications will be sent on April 23rd.

If you have permanent housing and applied after December 1st, Housing Assignments will assign you a room and will notify you in late May.

If you applied on or after January 27th or have temporary housing status, you will be assigned to a temporary room space and notified late May or early June.

I wanted to note that for those who applied for housing after December 1, you will be assigned a room. How do they know what to assign you? Well, it’s based on your Housing Preferences from Phase 2.

So, some future applicants might want to pay more attention to their dorm preferences during Phase 2 and not blow it off.

(FYI, three years ago, D26 had a friend who had temporary housing status. She ended up being assigned the dorm on her preferred list. Housing Preference selections do matter.)

TLDR: Phase 2 is important for some people and shouldn’t be ignored.
