fyi- I also was copied on it by reslife. it went to his regular email, TAMU email, and my email.
Thanks for the responses. The e-mail has been found!
Probably difficult to know but I thought to ask⊠My son and his friends want to share a 4 bedroom 4 bath at White Creek. He got a 5/5 @ 4pm time and but the other pair of boys got 5/8. If my son picks 2 rooms in a 4/4 how likely is it that another random pair of boys will snag the other two rooms? Does he just hope that no one else drops in, or is there something you can do to hold onto the other two rooms?
So your son is already pulling up a roomie to grab the other room? If so, then yes⊠others can jump in and grab the other 2 rooms
Yeah, he has a roommate. I guess weâll just have to see what happens.
When is his roommates time?
To get a rough idea of which dorms fill up when, I found this chart based on peopleâs observations over several days during Phase 4. (Judging by the Reddit post date and assuming the first date is on a Monday, I estimate this info is from 2019.)
They changed it up a little this year so I am wondering how it will fill up this time. Luckily my son is going to live in the Engineering LLC and is not going to have to go through this mess. He will be studying/reviewing for his MPE instead of stressing over housing. ![]()
What do you mean by âthey changed it up a little this yearâ?
(D26 did Engineering LLC, so weâre glad we didnât go through all this back then.)
The general room selection process has changed a little. If you are Priority Permanent Housing (Deposit by December 2nd) then you get a date and time to pick your room. If you are Traditional Permanent Housing (Deposit between December 2nd and January 26th) then you will be assigned a room from what is left. Temporary Housing, Waitlist and LLCâs still work the same.
Yes, I do recall seeing the distinction between âPriority Permanentâ and âTraditional Permanentâ explained in the ResLife email and web page.
However, if room selection is only available for those who paid a deposit by Dec. 1, and if the old spreadsheet I linked to shows that people who paid by âearly Decemberâ got a timeslot during the first week or so of Phase 4, then it appears to me that the âHunger Gamesâ will probably still go on for the first week or so.
The only difference I can think of is that the âlaterâ people, instead of getting a timeslot to log in just to find random rooms/beds, will just be assigned a room/bed instead. But I canât see how that affects/helps us âearlyâ people competing. Unless Iâm missing something.
No, it doesnât affect the early people.
Northside vs. Southside Modulars - Our daughter and her roommate are quiet, studious girls who are eager to get plugged in at TAMU (clubs/orgs/church). The housing deposit was paid the first day so both should be an option.
Is there a great deal of difference? They were thinking north side, but they have both recently been told that the south side is quieter and perhaps a better fit since they are not interested in the âparty sceneâ.
Any input would be greatly appreciated!
My son lived in southside (Wells) his freshman year. He loved it. Had a first floor room and made lots of friends on his floor. They would also hang out in the commons to study, or just hang out. They also LOVED that the southside rec was right next door and was brand new that year. No regrets.
Iâm sure there are âquiet, studiousâ people on both Northside and Southside. But both have a slightly different vibe. Has your daughter visited both sides?
While itâs true that students will eat all over campus, has she eaten at both Sbisa and the Commons dining hall? Also, connected to Sbisa is the Underground Food Court with various other options (Chick-fil-A, Einstein Bros., Copperhead Jack, etc.). There are fewer âotherâ options near the Commons/Southside. But if sheâs not adventurous or like crowds, then she might prefer the smaller Commons dining hall. Sometimes, students gravitate towards one âhubâ over the other. MSC food is about equal distance.
You mentioned in a previous post about Biology Honors. I assume your daughter will be taking freshman science classes in Heldenfels Bldg. and Biological Sciences Bldg., both of which are closer to Southside. Chemistry Bldg. is about equal distance.
The Commons does house the Engineering LLC, so there might be slightly more nerdy engineering students around (i.e. eating, studying, hanging out in the Commons), but theyâre also all over campus.
As you probably know, Northside is a short walk to the Northgate area. Thatâs either a plus or minus to some people. If the off-campus restaurants/bars are not her thing, thereâs also the Baptist Student Center, Methodist Church, and further down, the Catholic Church. (Of course, there are plenty of other churches and ministry organizations elsewhere.)
Iâm a little biased towards Southside (I lived in the Commons back in the day and so did my daughter a couple of years ago). To me, Southside feels a little bit calmer with open space to âbreathe.â Northside feels more active. Generally speaking.
To use a city analogy, Iâd say one is like a suburb on the edge of rural land (next to a military base), while the other is like a suburb on the edge of a thriving urban area.
So, it all depends on your personality. Hope this helps.
Thank you - This explanation was extremely helpful!
You talking about my son here? LOL

So quiet here. TODAYâS THE DAY! Itâs almost time! Room selection starts in an hour ![]()
Meanwhile my kid is sitting in his AP Microeconomics test. Looks like Iâm doing this for him. Hope he and his roomate are happy.
how can you see the rooms that are still available after you reserve one?
I think they said you have ten minutes from when you add a room to the cart to when you have to confirm it. So I guess you could look around in that time. But we just went ahead and confirmed the first room they chose right away and then couldnât see what was left.
