You should be fine. Is he NMSF? If not, then I wouldn’t be worried about missing out. And even if he’s NMSF, he’ll be guaranteed Presidents Endowed.
The only downside to not registering for NSC sooner is risking not having as many NSC sessions to select from.
He’s Commended…so the chance is very tiny, I know.
In the past, merit scholarships for new students were announced via the financial aid portal during the first week of February.
Given that stats increase greatly every year AND record number of applicants, I doubt Commended qualifies for much…maybe Lechner or McFadden, but that would be it (I think). And one those two is Dallas County specific.
slightly OT, but I am surprised that the scholarships have not increased over time . I got a McFadden in the early 90s and the dollar amount is the about same today as it was then. the money went a lot farther back then.
There is no reason to wait to accept. It doesn’t affect aid offered. He can cancel nsc. It isn’t a big deal. He should get his financial aid info soon. I assume he did the fafsa? He should check the financial aid portal in howdy. Any offered aid- loans, grants, scholarships appear there. Some of them require that the student clicks “accept” . Check weekly.
They initially appear usually by February for incoming freshman, much later for returning students , typically summer. Last year they appeared later than normal for incoming freshman because of the change in the fafsa.
They will offer aid or not . Accepting won’t reduce the amount offered. Students receive the financial aid offers when they are ready whether your student has accepted already or not.
Oh and keep checking the financial aid portal. Sometimes they add funds. They might first load the grant and loan offers and later a scholarship may be added.
Rooming question:
I am looking at the “single suite” style of dorm. This is where there’s two single rooms connected with a bathroom in the middle. When picking rooms, can we pick the neighboring roomate that will be sharing the bathroom? I’ve tried emailing the housing department but they can’t seem to give me a straight answer. Also, if anyone has anyone experience rooming in this style of dorm, I’d love to hear about the experience.
Question regarding NSC. When you stay on campus during NSC do you get assigned where you stay or do you get to choose? (Hoping to stay in a style of dorm that she’s hoping to live in so we can measure etc)
With Phase II housing registration coming Saturday- does anyone know- does that mean 12:01am Saturday and everyone is logging on at the same time? Or more business hours Saturday?
Also as we have no experience with the dorms in the last 25 years, can anyone say if there are dorms for my daughter to put at the bottom of our list? Trying to state that nicely Thank you!
I’d recommend a hotel. You won’t know what dorm until you check in. It’s no frills. After a log day at NSC, the last thing I’d want to do is sleep in dorm, and have to drive somewhere to eat.
Phase 2 is literally meaningless, it’s simply a formality. The ONLY thing that matters is time stamp housing deposit was paid, and your dorm selection slot (you won’t find that out until April).
If you haven’t taken a dorm tour, highly recommend between now & April.
I see that on res life just announced that all deposits from today forward are for temporary housing. We are still waiting for the AIS portal to update to allow us to put down a housing deposit after receiving the 7 tabs Saturday. We were planning on the Engineering LLC—is this still a possibility when they are only allowing for temporary housing at this time?
means campus housing is full (or near full).
Temp is okay - you’re guaranteed a spot somewhere; when it goes to Wait List… that’s bad.
Again, dorm selection isn’t until April/May, so that allows time for some to change their mind (live off campus, go to another school).
Time stamp housing deposit paid is CRITICAL at this point. Pay immediately when link/button becomes live. It’s a 2 step process, don’t stop until you get a message.
No clue about LLC.
What do we need to do on Saturday/Feb.1st then? Just list our preferences but we won’t find out what we get until April/May? Also, can y’all clarify what temporary housing means since we just paid today and that will involve my daughter? Thanks for the help!
Just list any 2 dorms, it’s truly a formality. No rush to log in when it opens for phase 2.
Temp Housing means you are still guaranteed a bed somewhere (could even start out in make shift space), and will get a bed once school starts. It’s quite possible student could get off Temp List prior to dorm selection in April. The higher you are on Temp List, the better.
It’s all about time stamp housing deposit is paid
Wait List is NOT guaranteed a bed.
If student is on Temp or Wait, they can NOT ‘match’ with a roomie during phase 3.
Temp list question.
When does phase 3 roommate matching start? (I’ll review the videos)
Is there ever movement off temp list before phase 3 starts?
My Kid has the 7 tabs but still waiting. She has a roommate picked out, but I need to break the news to her that they will not be able to match.
Thanks
Not sure when phase 3 opens? That’s a ResLife question.
Those highest on Temp List have been known to get off…but it might not be until right before-or during-dorm selection.
So what does it mean if your child paid the deposit and was listed as Permanent housing? They are guaranteed a dorm? We were not priority as you had to be accepted before/in December for priority by the info in the phase 1 application.
Phase 3 starts in April if I’m remembering correctly.
The Res life FB page had a video today explaining how temporary housing works. I think someone also posted it in the 2029 Aggie parent FB group.
