Admitted Texas A&M University, Class of 2028

DD got accepted to engineering - saw it on portal but no email. OOS 0 32 ACT, 3,87 UW, I think 4.7 weighted, 8 AP, 4 HS in 4 years so not top 10 percent but was 20+ percent in her current HS which is 127 class magnet arts school.

How sure are you of this? Or how do you know this? I’m reading mixed info. Some say all applicants appear. I hope you’re right. My daughter and her friend are both under review and listed in directory. Thanks for any info you can provide!

How do you know? Hoping you’re right!

@FriscoDad Auto admit here, top 10%. Denied Engineering. Accepted General College, BAC Degree. What are chances to transfer into engineering after 1st year in General College? Portal says can change major, but the BAC-UNIV is full, so I’m worried about even trying to change major at this point. I heard there may be Data Science program coming, would definitely prefer that.

Top 10% rarely get denied engineering unless missing Calculus. Because admission can also offer you TEAB if it is ranking or score issue.

Once admitted to an assign major, the only way is appeal with new evidence (e.g. if you have Calculus BC this year). The grades for senior year won’t be used for admission but admission can reconsider whether you are ready for the vigor of engineering.

Internal transfer to engineering is possible but hard and only if you are allowed to take classes close to ETAM. ETAM requires two science classes, Calculus I and II, and two engineering coding classes. You can’t take the two engineering coding classes, but if you look at external transfer course sheet (see below MEEN example), if everything A (which is not easy at TAMU) for the minimum 24 hours, they will still admit you.

If you follow the math degree plan (see below), you can be very close to the engineering freshmen classes

Was he denied engineering or accepted to general engineering? All A&M students start out in general engineering.

Denied engineering due to capacity and moved to UNIV-General University.

@FriscoDad Thanks for the info! He only has pre-calculus. When we go to select another major, it states primary choice is BAC-UNIV, and if we change it, it’s full and won’t be able to change it back. Pretty confusing and we do plan to call on Monday.

What was listed as 2nd choice major? When did he apply? I don’t think at this point you can change major; or it appears you’re limited.
Sure it’s ‘General University’ and not ‘General Studies’?

@52AG82 Hope the pic comes through.

  1. Was Engineering before it was switched
  2. Business administration

Hmmm, General Studies is GEST; never heard/seen General University🤷🏻‍♀️
I bet @ChristiR93 or @FriscoDad can shed light.

Did it say specifically somewhere about Engineering being at capacity? Like FriscoDad mentioned, Calculus is required for Engineering.

I’m guessing student applied late/recently?
Is he able to apply for housing?

UNIV offer started last year. If you see open majors like below, Math BS is the closest thing like ETAM, if having good GPA you can transfer to engineering.

After freshmen year there will be a window for Change of major in June and another one in August, use the new Change of Major (see below) requirement to change to the engineering. Change of Major to engineering is similar to External Transfer to TAMU, but TAMU students taking TAMU classes get preference over the community college transfers.

We just freed up an Engineering seat at College Station. Will NOT be attending.
S24 got Accepted to Notre Dame, :shamrock: first choice, “Dream School”.
Good Luck to everybody.

Congrats! :shamrock:

He applied before Dec 1 but not by priority deadline and letter mentioned capacity for engineering. We didn’t think college was possible until a family offered to help so we were late to the party. No Calculus, only pre-calculus.

@FriscoDad The Math path, requires a different Calculus class than engineering. How will that impact a transfer into engineering?

Math 171 is same as Math 151, only a little tougher.

Engineering is full?? So all us waiting are out of luck at this point? Need some clarity.
