Son was admitted back in November. Changing major from Nursing to Pre-Med and still trying to decide between A&M, OU, or TTU. Thoughts?
Also - he was admitted under Public Health but is now considering Biology or BIMS.
Thank you

As long as he has the courses required for entry into med school, then any major is fine. He should do one that he can gain employment should he change his mind from Med school.
Among all three, if your student can get in TTU’s EAP, that’s the best choice, waiving MCAT.
TAMU BioChem or BMEN are tougher programs that prepare students better for MCAT. (Some BMEN take MCAT the summer after sophomore year). BIMS in general are for broader health care professionals. Not saying it is not a good pre-med program, but your student needs to actively choose tough classes. While traditional medical schools look heavily on both MCAT score and GPA, taking tough classes via BIMS will be a tougher route, and your student will need to be open-minded to prepare for other medical professionals paths just in case.
Biology degree alone is not enough for MCAT. Students from other public flagship colleges (e.g. UWashington/UMich) at times have to stay home one year after graduation to study for MCAT. (So you can tell how tough BMEN in TAMU is)
I just finished typing up a 30-page TAMU FAQ for my DS, to help set expectations and answer questions. We will be going over it this summer together. I thought I would post it here to help others out, but I get a message saying I can’t post links. But I see others who have posted links, so what is the trick?
I think just because of being a new user in CC
Food for thought: Have you been to the public health department meeting/presentation? We went at aggieland Saturday and drank the koolaid😀. We were impressed . They have a 59% admission rate to med school which is higher than the state average and the A&M average. They also have excellent advising. Their broad street scholars program is excellent and great way to make friends and get a good recommendation for med school. I talked to some public health students. The dean said if you come in with no credits you will graduate in 4 years. If you come in with your associates (my son) you will graduate in 2. They don’t have super seniors in public health. Good study abroad opportunities. BIMS is known for poor advising. I’ve known people to switch from BIMS to public health.
You are right…BIMS has a terrible reputation for poor advising!
Thank you for the feedback. Much appreciated!
Anyone heard any engineering honors decision? Mine is still under review.
Ours, too. Haven’t seen anything on these forums/boards indicating decisions are out yet.
Mine is still under review too (engineering honors). I think the only ones out are the NMF and Brown Finalists that are guaranteed if they apply.
My son applied to Galveston, this means he is in right? 7 Tabs?
How long does it take to change “accepted” in AIS if so?
Yes. What major?
Oceans and One Health
Congratulations
Excellent!!! Congrats.
Thank you!! Will anything change to “whoop, admitted!” or do they only send official confirmation through the letter in “My Documents”? We are so excited over here!!
Click “My Dashboard” to check major detail.
Both. You’ll get a banner as well.
Galveston admits don’t get the “Whoop You’ve been admitted” message in AIS, but the “View my letters” and “My next steps” buttons will appear where it used to say your application is in review.
