Admitted to Stanford REA

Hey everyone,

I was wondering if any parents would be willing to read some of my essays for RD (I was admitted REA to Stanford)? They are for MIT, Upenn, Wash U in St. Louis, and Columbia (it’s ok if you only read like one or two). If so, I’ll PM them to you ASAP. Thanks so much!

ccuser95

Those schools are all ones that you may realistically choose over Stanford if admitted?

I thought wash u had no essays.

Yeah, go to Stanford and do something useful RIGHT NOW.

@ucbalumnus yes, if FA is significantly higher.

@texaspg it’s for the 8 year medical program, which DOES have one

@sorghum huh, what do you mean?

You probably could take WashU off your list then. They aren’t known for being overly generous with FA.

Wash U has merit scholarships, though. Also, the 8 year medical program has its advantages.

It would be nice to get a thank-you after help is provided. Just saying.

@jshain really? i’ve had several friends get significant merit aid for there

@oldfort haha, sorry. I haven’t read your suggestions yet (i’ve been a little busy these past few days with school), but thanks!

ccuser, oldfort is absolutely right, and for those who read your essays as you requested, a personal message to each and every one is in order. Now that, young man, is one of the most beneficial “lessons” we can give you that will help you succeed in the school of life!

I was referring to need-based aid.

@jshain: sorry, sorry. i honestly have not been on CC for awhile and have not even opened many of my PMs! I promise I will write a nice, long thank you letter after getting to them (hopefully tonight)

I don’t know if I deserve one though. I was brutal and mean.

They don’t have to be “long”. A brief and simple 1-sentence acknowledgement of “thanks…” is sufficient. I will consider this your response to my input (which wasn’t much but at least I wasn’t mean like texaspg) and best of luck to you on your remaining schools!

@texaspg i actually prefer critical reviewers because they’re the most helpful! thanks! I’ll reply with a thank you PM once i read your comments.

@jshain jeez jeez, give me some time haha. I will respond with thank you’s to everyone once i get a chance; we’re still not on christmas break!

I mean, accept the Stanford offer, stop wasting your time on essays, and go do something useful like work in McDonalds or learn Chinese.

@sorghum: I need to compare FA offers tho. I’m not going to a school just for its “prestige”. Besides, I like writing essays. And I am actually currently working at Mcdonalds and already know Chinese lol.

That’s hilarious.

Anyway, have you looked into WashU’s med scholars program much? You need really high stats to keep the guarantee. I want to say 3.8/38 MCAT or something similarly ridiculous. It’s not worth giving up Stanford for it… It would be interesting to see the attrition rate for this program, though I doubt they would publish it.

Yes, plus he PM’d quite a few folks here all at once requesting their help in reviewing his essays. Posting a request in a forum or maybe sending one or two requests isn’t enough? He has to engage in wholesale spam?

Now he tells us he hasn’t had a chance to read his replies? Ri-i-i-ight. He certainly responded quickly in sending his essay!

I’m really, really tempted to send the adcoms at MIT a little heads-up email.

I think you are overreacting a tad, LoremIpsum. It is certainly nice to get a thank you, without having to request one, but hardly reason to notify admissions about during their busiest time of year.

ccuser95 got the message…

Fair points, but I doubt if you know Swahili and how to reload your own ammo.
