Advanced credits: to seize it all?

Hiya,

I asked this on the Sg conn thread, but I thought I’d ask for all Intl students’ opinions on this matter.

Unless you took AP, IB or other American exams (or, your college has a credit conversion chart for your exam), you’ll never be able to truly benchmark your high school exam with you college courses.

Would u seize all the advanced credit you are deemed qualified for? Or start college on a breezy intro-classes note to ease your way in?

I’m going to milk all credits. My reason: if the class I’m put in is ‘too tough’, I can just take it again to save my GPA. If it’s not “too tough”, I get a lighter workload (over all 4 years) and hence more room for fun unrelated electives.

Now the question: will it be reflected in a transcript if a student took the same class twice?

How does your college mark high school transfer credit on your transcript? I have four entries on my transcript that read, “Abitur - 2 credits”, one for each of my 4 Abitur subjects. They are tagged in the internal registration system to count towards different gen ed requirements, but my transcript does not show the equivalent courses.

Also, some colleges may take away your transfer credit if you choose to re-take the equivalent college course. I don’t know where your school stands on this.

Anyway, I don’t see a reason not to claim all the transfer credits you can get.
