Advice for an Incoming High School Freshman

Hi guys. On September 6th I will be starting high school. I am taking the following classes:

English 9 Regents
Algebra 1
AP World History I
Biology Honors
Spanish 2
Physical Education
Study Hall
PLTW Principles of Biomedical Sciences

As far as EC’s, I am not choosing to be in every club, but rather get involved in a few and show leadership skills within those, I am joining:

Book Club
Communications Club
Environmental Club
Troupe
Student Council (will run for in Spring)

In the winter, I also am on the school ski team, and I am going to go into NHS, but on the side plan to volunteer at some local hospitals.

Before I hit ‘Post Discussion’ I’d like to say I understand I am “young” for being on this site, but I know my stuff and I give good feedback for my age. I appreciate all who comment on what they think of my freshman year, because I know in the near future, I’ll be giving someone similar advice.

It’s a good plan! But keep in mind that the AP World History exam has really changed since last year. Make sure to get updated review books to learn the informant and format properly.

OP’s school offers APWH as a 2 year sequence, so s/he won’t need review books until next year.

NHS as in National Honor Society? First, you don’t join, you are selected. Second, freshman are not eligible for NHS membership. If the school is offering membership to 9th graders, it’s in violation of the program.

Other than that it’s a good plan. Good luck.

I meant NHS as when they open up and start to select, to show I volunteer for hours without being in it yet. Thank you for your advice! @skieurope

Thanks! @ZealousScholar  I will be sure to do that in tenth grade!!!

Hi! I go to JHU, and here’s some advice for you for high school in general

  • Take risks!
  • Stay focused! Just know that however hard it may seem at times, it will always be worth it in the end
  • Don't procrastinate by going on CC! Jk, I do that all the time...
  • Enjoy high school, it only happens once in your life!
  • Focus on only a few EC's and become committed to them (which I see you're already planning to do - great job!)

Good luck to your future endeavors!

Haha, thank you so much!!! @YoWassupYo
