This group was so helpful with our Class of 2028 Aggie that I wanted to reach out for advice on my other kiddo as we try to provide her input. She is a sophomore at Oklahoma State - elementary ed major. Decided to go there because she was offered PSA from A&M her senior year in HS. She is wanting to try to transfer to A&M. Her first year (and first part of this fall) was not good due to some medical issues, but she has since turned it around since midterms taking 15 hours and raising her GPA to a 2.47. She took a math class during the wintermester and is taking 18 hours this spring and striving to exceed what she did this fall (could raise her GPA then to a 2.94). She has an appointment set with an advisor, but at the moment, her plan is to have all of her application complete and be ready to submit as soon as Spring 2025 grades are available (as she recognizes she doesn’t currently meet the 2.5 minimum).
I know how insanely competitive A&M is (we are both Aggie grads & have a kid there now), so I wanted to ask…is this possible? We checked the transfer sheet for education, and she will meet those. I just don’t know what admissions looks like for a transfer student. Second question is…she’s considering that if she doesn’t get into A&M in the Fall to transfer to Blinn for the Fall and try applying again. Thanks in advance!
How many total hours does she have currently?
Was the WinterMester taken at OK State or juco?
18 in one semester? Why?? That probably isn’t the best idea, especially if she’s not a strong student. @Christi1993 can give you honest advice.
Illl need to go review the transfer guidelines and weigh back in. But question… how many total hours will she have completed by end of spring, including any dual credit which might actually help her gpa if she took any in high school!
I looked at transfer sheet… then reread your message. She cannot apply for fall after spring grades are out. That deadline closes in March and spring and summer grades do not count for admission purposes for fall. Just like fall grades won’t count for spring admission.
The only way she can pull the fall off is IF she applies right now for the fall in hopes that they don’t flat out deny her but hold her app open and defer for spring grades. Is that what you are implying you were doing?
Also, does she need to retake any courses like math or a science if received less than a C?
I know it all sounds a little out of the ordinary which is why I am torn on how to advise her. She was diagnosed with ADHD earlier in the fall (around midterm), and since starting on the medicine, it has been a complete turnaround on her grades and as a student as in raised failing grades in all 5 classes to B’s (within a couple of points of getting an A in two of the classes). The ADHD diagnosis answered a lot of questions as her grades didn’t make sense at all with her capabilities.
@52AG82 - one of her spring classes (so 3 of the 18 hours) is actually a teaching seminar so student teaching with class only one day a week. Wintermester was juco (TJC).
At the end of this semester, she’d have: 49 OSU, 6 community college, 6 hours from HS AP exams (Human Geography & World History - no DC).
She was planning to apply for Fall 2025. Realizing we looked at a line wrong, and deadline is March 1st which means she wouldn’t have the 2.5 technically (0.03 short) so may automatically be thrown out of the pool (unless they request spring grades)? This is all uncharted territory for us. Both my husband and I started at A&M as freshman.
Yes that is what I meant - hoping for a deferral. The only D’s she got her first year were in two classes that wouldn’t transfer (a 2-hour seminar class and a 1-hour history class that her advisor gave her a bad recommendation to take). Nothing less than a C in anything else.
You’re already at a no so might as well try for deferred trades. She definitely needs to discuss her diagnosis in her essay and what she’s learned from it. Go through the struggles of it while not using it as an excuse.
Best of luck and please keep us posted!!! We’ll still be here lol.
Oh and that’s great about nothing lower than a C and if those 2ds don’t count then they won’t be factored into the transfer audit.
Good question! From looking at past posts it seems like it could start happening anytime, but also could be as late as March/April. Are you checking AIS 500 times a day like we are?
We keep checking for the “7 tabs on Howdy…” I wonder if there are any early signs on the new Howdy portal?
7 tabs are the early signs and they only appear in the early morning, like 7am. No need to keep checking for those tabs after that. Save you some stress.
And the tabs are the only early signs of acceptance to tamu. Even tho Admissions Office would say that’s not the case. lol
Does anyone know when to expect to find out if admitted for Fall. Transfer petroleum engineering major. Just graduated with associates with a 3.95 GPA. They requested spring transcript before they would give us a decision. Submitted them on May 12. There is now a green check in AIS under the documents that may be required if admitted for the spring transcript. All prerequisites are complete. Are his chances good?
Yes. Yes they are really good. Right now admissions is still going thru PSA and PTA. I haven’t heard of any deferred transfers being admitted yet. Hang in there.
Yes, all prerequisites are met! Was auto admitted last fall for being in the top 10% of his grading HS class, but decided to go to a junior college this year. We didn’t know that waiting he wouldn’t be an auto admit for the next year.
Thank you so much for your response! @Christi1993
