just sent D1 a package - supplies she left behind, coat that we don’t need in TX until January. You know, I was ready for her to leave, but she has grown in the last month and I can’t wait for her to come home at break! I want to fix her favorite foods, hear her laugh, see her face, watch old movies together…i guess i miss her…

You can bake something and mail over by the priority box to her as a surprise when the weather get colder. She will remember it forever.

lemme in lemme in!!
he wrote
“I bought box of detergent”
packing fairy gave him some in the deli container with fish with bubble drawn on the cover saying “soap”
of course he did not see it.
So he buys this giant box, open the spout and put some in the container which packing fairy packed cookies in it (was noticed and eaten, thus empty)
now, ripped and left opened spout leaks soapy refreshing “stink” in their room, so he GIVES AWAY the rest to the common damp site after decorate the box with drawings and saying “free tide” (apples done fell near the tree)
all the while he could not find “affordable” extra, cough cough underwear that packing fairy slacked off because he was supposedly doing that part.
Good news is he is doing laundry (out of necessities)
Bad news is I am waiting for return of lovey (see post #1600) to sent off first care packages (with forgotten boxer shorts galore)
let this be the hard lesson about taking responsibility of own life,
Or
should I spare the priority mail fee already…

BandD…what is it with boys and forgetting to pack essentials like UNDERWEAR? Very funny to imagine this humongous box of tide that he just can’t deal with so decides to help all others in dorm. At least he thinks he needs to do laundry. Is he having to cook too or is he on a meal plan?

Uninmaginable to parent of girl where the issue is generally that they will pack all of their clothes and also plenty from other family members…when she went to SF this summer she had taken some of my really expensive sweaters…and “forgot” to ask. When she packs for college I need to lock my closet.

Bears
Tell him to find someone with a car, get a group together and go to the mall. Target, K Mart, etc. there’s a big mall nearby with a Target. Much cheaper than shipping the underwear. But yes, downtown will be expensive, he’s now in the land of mall shopping. Ah yes, and Costco, I think there’s one of those there also.

Oh nooooooooooooooooo, he didn’t give away the detergent, oh my. So what will he do when the little bit he put in the cookie jar runs out. But I don’t think they outgrow this (sorry guys/dad readers) I remember my brother in law forgetting shoes and socks for a wedding.

Love the “I forgot” stories. My best one is that I was going to Chicago for my son’s wedding, and was so intent on not forgetting my dress and accessories, my daughter’s dress, slip, strapless bra, shawl and shoes, making sure H had everything he needed, that the first time I got out of the shower (thank goodness we were there early!), I realized I had not packed one pair of panties. Off to WalMart we went. Of course we had to get my nephew a belt at the same time, so I was not too embarassed!!

Bears - I have found that parcel post is cheaper and things get there in only about 1-2 extra days. I say for the extra $10 priority mail costs, they can wait.

Gmom- gotta let Manga girl do art. With the psych, sounds like art therapy might be right up her alley. Sounds like RIT is that elusive fit that they talk about on other boards, where the - ahem - “cranky people” live. Another LAC that has equestrian studies is Cazenovia college in upstate NY (can’t remember where). Co-worker is looking into it for her D is horse lover too.

here is the latest
I have noted that so-called downtown where he is now (watch out! smarty he can HEAR you!!!) has no commercial capitalism chain stores unless went outside of it a bit, which require changing bus or taking the one does not run Sundays, which is when he realized he was on his last pair.
So he calls first time after that irritable “wetones” talk. we chat, great, having fun, reading, eating, great.
Then as if it is an after thought, he tells me desperately needing this face stuff he’d be able to get from the drugstore just walking around the corner if he were at home.
I bent. go get the stuff from 24 hour shop around the corner, pack few underwears and “right” socks and shirts, stuff them in the flat rate box at the post office and mailed it, with delivery confirmation costing 11 bucks and changes.
I knew if I were to find the box and weigh in, it would be at least few dollars cheaper than ready-made post office boxes that say “if it fit it ships!!”
^ that is a dirty TRICK!! don’t fall for it! make your own package and take it to the teller to be weighed in to compare pricing. It depends bit on distance the box had to travel but almost always cheaper than the flat rate, assuming you are not sending box full of bricks or books.
I knew this being post office pro, but I just did not wanted to be bothered hunting for just the right sized box, then taking side seam apart, turn inside out so no printed image or logo would be shown outside, tape back the side and bottom, stuff, bring it in to be shipped.
So
I picked flat-sh medium priority box with peel and stick tape built in (otherwise you have to ask tellers for “priority” tape that is awful hard to cut and of course they don’t give you scissors, so you’d have to stab with the key or the tip of the pen to break the tape to be cut.
The post office where I go, often you’d see stylish college girls stabbing and taping with that awful priority tape.
Or
bring your own tape and scissors, in the stylish little tote??? or BUY them at the on-site highway robbery postal boutique.

I do understand that USPS is in big financial trouble, yet do you remember that time priority box was flat $3.99, stamps are let’s see, 20 some cents?
recently I tried to change my address online (now that’s how you do it. no more little card to fill in manually) I had to check twice thrice to be sure I was on the legit USPS site.
They’d ask you which coupons do I want, BB&B, Lowe’s, Home depot, etc etc, as insisting and badly as those pop up ads.
NO NO no thank you I just wanna change address and get out!
Then they’d ask “are you sure?”
I AM SURE!! LET ME OUT!!
I quit not knowing it was right thing to do.
It was.
I got confirmation that my address is changed (harahh)
USPS is now mafia, in the line of Verizon wireless or Sprint, Chase or City bank. should them be burning down? (see loveblue’s PhD thread)

Bears:
It is not a joke but a true story. D went on a trip to Europe in her 8th or 9th grade. A lot of them didn’t bring enough underwear including boys and girls. The teacher told them to flip the used one and wear it, sorry it is disgusting … :—)

Yes, please provide your input one my Ph.D/MFA thread …

anybody out?
madbean and whom it may concern

5 is MINE!! I am nominated!!!

all is not lost.
I also did found the meanie-est one’s post, I thought was gone but it’s still there.
funny it won’t bother me none anymore. poo poo!!

-bears and dogs,
We communicate in English on this forum and don’t have interest in trying to play your little game of “what’s that word”? or “what can he be saying”?
So come back when you can spell and write in legible, readable English that actually makes sense.

<<< G-mom wrote: She was so funny when we were driving home and I asked her how was she so sure that she would get to be one of the lucky ones to get to go to the art house if she went there… and she looked at me and said “Mom, they’re art kids. They watch disney movies”… given what I saw I have no doubt that she would get in. It was great to see her brimming over with enthusiasm. >>>

What a great post, G-mom! It sounds like you had the kind of trip I used to have with my kiddos, checking out colleges. I bet Manga girl will treasure the time she had you all to herself! The last part of your post (quoted above) was so funny to read b/c that is exactly what my D does with her friends at night: watch Disney movies while they get their work done!
It is great to see a kid feel that connection with a college. Quick story: my kids are like night and day, couldn’t be more different. Younger is artsy, of course, older is very organized, type A in a good way, academic, spreadsheet type kid. When art D visited Ringlling for Accepted Students’ Day she came home saying how much she loved it, and how “the kids are just like me.” Older D argued with her that it was impossible, the kids couldn’t be just like her. Fast forward to a visit last year, maybe Parent’s Weekend and older D met me there. After a day around campus she said “OMG, Mom, they’re all just like her!” LOL! Anyway, maybe your D will end up at RIT! Do they offer art therapy?

Hi bears, It makes me sad that anyone would be mean to you. How many of us who speak English as our first language could participate on a forum and get by in daily life in another language? Don’t let them make you feel that to be understood you need to write right! THEY have the problem! If anyone wants to understand you it is quite easy to do so, one just has to be willing! I am glad you are among friends here in this forum; you offer so much and it is a pleasure to read your posts!

Hi madbean, Well said! Makes me glad I didn’t find CC until well after my kids got into college! I am so far from perfect that hearing all the CC’ers who are (and who also have perfect kids) would have stressed me to no end.

Bears, I love that your son drew on the laundry box!!

Fammom, I am very sorry to hear about your D’s friend losing her father to cancer. How kind of you to take her under your wing. I have no doubt that it is comforting to the dad. He must be saddened beyond words, knowing he won’t be there for his kids. I hope that if the D wants to go away to school that her mom will let her, maybe in homage to her husband!

Don’t we all have perfect kids?.. Hahahahaha!

Actually, I found CC in 2003, two years before my son graduated from high school. They first year I was extremely freaked out, but I settled down early enough that it didn’t make me want to force my kid into someplace just because of prestige.

I had my share of snarky parents over those years. But one of the things I like about the Visual Arts forum is that everyone who posts here is SO SUPPORTIVE of each other! You guys are great!

And bears and dogs… your enthusiasm is contagious! I hope you keep posting for a long time.

Congratulations Bears! You’re up there in great company, and switters is there too (#21) with “I think I broke my poodle”. Keep up the good work people!

whaaat!! is that switts?
she is the champ, then. someone declared it in one of the post last night, but it had word “pu*ssy” in it, so it seems deleted now.
when did switts say that? where? I wouldn’t have missed.
does she know she is a nominee, and won?
switters!!
get off the iphone and come see!!

Poor switters is having more dog troubles. I say the poodle is lucky to run free for a change. Now he’s a cat-humping purse poodle! All sorts of humor abound.

Poodles have surprised me too. They jump up on the couch and you can’t keep your hands out of that fur. So soft, so squeezable!

Switters, one of our dogs (both are Maltese) gets really crazy when we start packing up to go somewhere. The suitcases go by the front door and the manic barking begins. Vomit may follow, or a wild escape out the door and into the car! It’s gotten so bad that we have to put the neurotic one in a baby-sling contraption on H so he is reassured during the whole long procedure. You are not alone in being one of “those people”!
