So… I readily admit I know absolutely nothing about domains but every single .edu site is down in Michigan. MSU’s, U of M’s, all the directionals.

This is so weird. Anyone know what could cause something like this?

I can access U of Mich and MSU’s website.

Apparently everyone outside of Michigan can but no one INSIDE of MI can. I’ve checked with friends all over the state.

We can access on mobile devices though.

ETA: This just got tweeted: A rep. at Merit Network, the ISP for Mich.'s public universities, said they are indeed experiencing an outage. Cause, solution unknown.

Just weird. Never seen anything like this before lol.

romani, tried MI & MSU for curiosity. Can’t access out here in CA either. Weather issues?

Don’t know. I have no idea where the servers are located but this weather isn’t really that bad. Not bad enough to cause an outage I would think.

It’s just so weird that ALL the sites are down. Wifi is down on MSU’s campus as well. Not sure about others.

D’s LAC is working; are you back up?

My son posted this on his FB page: "Wolverine Access outages are posted on the main Wolverine Access page.

Pretty funny

^ That was essentially the same message on the State News about MSU’s status lol.

It’s all back up now but that was so weird.

It could have been that the regional DNS server went down. When you type in a URL, the DNS server is asked for the URL server’s IP address (for example, 1.222.65.etc) and if your DNS server is down, you won’t be able to load the site from where you are, unless you know the IP address.
