<p>I have heard about this book, and I read the first few pages online. I can’t say much about what the book said because I haven’t read the whole thing, but I think she was talking about her experience, and everyone’s experience is different at a place at Andover. They allow students to be independent and make decisions for themselves. The author of the book wrote about alcohol and drug use, but I think that would happen at any school. I hope that very few people will have to go through what she went through, because it seems very sad. I also hope that Andover doesn’t change its policies because of this book.</p>
<p>trust me drugs are a lot prevalent at bs they most people like to admit. probably the most widely used drugs are ritalin, adderal, and most certainly predominately dip. i just posted this because a lot of people think that boarding are perfect and nothing bad or illegal will happen there. but no matter where you go they will always be those you use illegal substances</p>
<p>I agree, there will be illegal substances anywhere you go, including bs. It’s sad but true. There is no perfect place to send your kid where there will be no bad influences. Don’t think that all boarding school kids are perfect.</p>

<p>getting an ivy league education is not the be-all end-all. the majority of successful people did not attend the ivy league and there are many people who don’t belong there <em>coughbushcough</em> and you want to go to exeter so you should be happy that andover is being publicly embarrassed.</p>

<p>I don’t see why it matters that she misspelled something. Books are misspelled all the time. And btw she isn’t the one who proofreads her book, its her proofreader and the publisher and the editor who do that. Anyway what matters is the message.</p>

<p>The book was self-published so there may not have been independent editing, proofreading, etc. The author pays the publisher to produce the book and tries to sell enough copies to recoup expenses and make a profit. Editing services add to the cost side of the equation.</p>
<p>I’ve only read the excerpts available via Google Books, but she was clearly an unhappy child trying to escape a dysfunctional (in her view, anyway) family. Boarding school can provide some structure but it cannot patch psychological wounds. Fortunately, among those students I’ve met most seem to be pursuing something positive rather than escaping a negative situation.</p>

<p>Ah well. There are plenty of drugs/druggies at my school, but I don’t really notice them and they are pretty easy to avoid. I don’t think a boarding school would be any worse.</p>
<p>MaterS’s article was a bit upsetting! She was pushed and got a concussion. I guess we shouldn’t be walking around alone at night…</p>

<p>Oh my bad, but I still don’t think it matters. Anyway I think anybody applying to boarding school should read this, because it shows a reality few applicants see: Boarding school isn’t perfect, and it won’t fix your life. I thought the part that I read was rather well written although disturbing.</p>
<p>I agree with Hoping’s post ^ It would be silly to believe that any school is perfect.</p>
