My D & I went to San Diego last night to see P!nk for a cancer research fundraiser - it was exceptional!
22 fully choreographed and beautifully delivered songs from P!nk last night.
As I said to my favorite daughter “I was right, I DID want to see P!nk perform live!”
Honestly, if you get a chance, she’s a true performer! Just go.
Who have you got on your summer concert list?
Also slated for me this summer: David Byrne (of Talking Heads fame); Santana; Joe Jackson; Howard Jones; Jon Baptiste; and Bruno Mars! It’s been years since my concert calendar has been this full! I love live music.
Just saw Lucinda Williams recently. I have Southern Culture On The Skids, The Beths, and Robyn Hitchcock on my list so far. Thought about David Byrne but couldn’t commit to the $$$ that far out and it sold out.
I just recently saw David Byrne (just so good, and a bit of a different show than I expected) and Santana. Santana was much better than I thought they would be…there were two high energy ‘cool dude’ singers. Carlos mostly sat and played guitar (very well.) His wife is the drummer and WOW! My biggest beef…Carlos had on a super cool Santana hoodie that they were not selling there, nor could I find it online. Wake up merch people!
Next up…Last Dinner Party, Guns and Roses, and Bon Jovi. I’m sure we will see the symphony outdoors too, but not willing to take weather risk so will execute close to the event.
We’ve mixed it up this year with a talk from Albert Brooks, hosted by Kevin Pollak and just saw Seinfeld. Quite funny.
A few months back we saw KC and the Sunshine Band - Two hours of pleasure.
I know we are seeing Train with Matt Nathanson and Barenaked Ladies - don’t need to see either but Train is always upbeat and fun. The Doobies come in the Fall. They came last year too but I had covid.
If I can snag a last minute, cheap seat on stub hub I’ll go see Toad the Wet Sprocket and Colin Hay / Men at Work. And I’d love to see Air Supply again.
And I’m guessing we will go see Manilow because why not.
We are seeing Mumford and Sons and Lord Huron. Desperately tried for Noah Kahan tickets but didn’t even get out of the waiting room, even though there were 9 of us trying for multiple venues presale and regular sales.
We just saw Courtney Barnett which was amazing! Also just saw Mae Martin do a combination stand-up routine plus a music set that we really loved, as well. We have tickets for Dermot Kennedy that I’m really looking forward to but I think that’s the only concert on the horizon as of now. I’m debating Pavement w/Soccer Mommy and Big Thief at the end of the summer but I’m having trouble committing because we have so much else going on.
This prompted me to go look and there are seats left for the second night but the first night is pretty much sold out so I should probably commit soon if we’re going to!
Seeing Teddy Swims in a few weeks…still debating whether to buy tickets for Devo.
And, I play in a band and we have a few shows booked for the summer, including one opening for a “National Act”, but they cannot yet tell us who it is until it is announced to the public…
We just have 2 concert tix left for the summer: Chicago/Styx and Santana/Doobie Bros - then season football tix kick in over Labor Day weekend to keep us busy through November and maybe longer (ha!)
The bandshell at the lake in my neighborhood has live music 4-5 evenings a week all summer. Not big names, just local bands ( and the city symphony which I love). I can walk there, bring my own food/ wine, it’s all free.
I’ve done a lot of “ big” concerts in my days. But this it it for me this summer.
I was lucky with the Teddy Swims tickets as I was in the waiting room as soon as they went on sale, and I was able to purchase a pair of the lower priced tickets in a decent location. Metallica tix on the other hand were too rich for my blood…would have been over $1200 to get in the building.
