Some (obvious) suggestions are:
– Study for the exam. You can get a review book, take a class, get a tutor, look for online resources, etc. If you have an area of weakness (looks like math) devote extra time to that.
–You can also consider the SAT. Some students do better on one exam than the other.
i did wayyy better on my psat and i’m getting a tutor so i guess i’m doing that!!!
Sounds like you should focus on the SAT. No need to take both exams.
So:
You’re a sophomore - so it’s very early and you will likely improve as you learn more.
There’s two tests as noted
There’s superscoring - and if you focus on math that will help wonders
There’s many a TO school
We don’t have your school list - so a 26 might be right in line or even above
To answer your title - no, you are NOT cooked.
If you did much better on the PSAT, I suggest sticking with the SAT. There is no need to do both tests. No college prefers one test to another. It’s far better to keep going with the SAT and improve that score as much as possible.
Is there some reason why you already took the ACT? Many students don’t take these tests until junior year, second semester.
They said PRE-ACT.
Well… you have pre act and you have PSAT. So it seems as others have said…the SAooks like the better test for you.
I would suggest that NOW you prep for the PSAT you will take fall of your junior year. If you can score high on that PSAT, you possibly cloud gain national merit semi finalist status which could open some doors for some scholarships
After you take the PSAT, then prep for the SAT
My opinion
i got a 1270 on it and i have a tutor, does national merit seem possible if i lock in???
I believe you will need a higher score on the PSAT for NMSF consideration.
My oldest got a 1450 on the PSAT (and a 1410 on the PSAT10) – and did not get national merit. Well, he got commended, but that’s it. Depends on the state and the year tho. Also, the NMSC selection index doubles the reading/writing score, so if (like in the case of my kid) you have a much higher/perfect math, but lower reading, it doesn’t help. On the plus side, it did mean an SAT score in the 1500’s for him with minimal prep. (He did not prep for the PSAT)
yeah i’ve been studying like crazy and ive taken a bunch of the practice tests b/c i’m taking the sat in may (for completely unrelated purposes) and i’ve been able to get between 1440-1460 so i’m hoping if i go crazy i can get a higher score on the psat
Good luck!
