I was accepted to Amherst, Williams. Uchicago, UCLA, and Cornell. I like Cornell the best even though it’s the “least prestigious” and the most expensive of all these schools. Am I making the right decision?

Yes, you are making the right decision as long as Cornell is still affordable for your family.

How is Cornell the least prestigious? Even so, all of your options are top schools, so you really can’t go wrong with any of them. Choosing based on fit is a smart choice. Congrats on your acceptances, and congrats on choosing Cornell. I wouldn’t second guess you decision at all.

Cornell is only slightly less prestigious than Amherst, Williams and Chicago, and is definitely more prestigious than UCLA.

Go with your heart, forget the “prestige,” and don’t let anyone from Amherst, Williams or Chicago (let alone the big guys at Harvard) EVER let you feel inferior. You’re going to be just fine!

This is a ■■■■■ post right?

If it’s not, you need to get a grip. Cornell is an IVY! Do you seriously believe that Cornell lacks prestige, whatever that means? The entire idea is laughable.

Is the school affordable? If not, go to one of your other choices. If it is, have a great four years in Ithaca.

Since when was Cornell less pretigious than UCLA?

The only places Cornell is “definitely more prestigious” than UCLA are probably the east coast and the south. Overall, they’re probably about equal in prestige.

OP, Cornell is a fine university and you should have no qualms going there. Given your acceptances to the other schools, i’m sure you’ll thrive at Cornell.

These "Oh…am I a fool for choosing [fill in the blank with name of amazing school] over [fill in the blank with another, just as amazing school]? posts make my head hurt a little.

This why some people think this site cannot be taken seriously.

^^^…and probably why my son’s college counselor keeps asking “Have you been on College Confidential again?!?” lol

^^^^LOL, keepingitlight!

I don’t understand your question. You want to know if we think it’s okay if you choose to attend Cornell. Sure.

You want to know if we think it’s okay if you choose Cornell even if it’s the least prestigious? Really??

And do we think it’s okay if you attend Cornell even if it’s the most expensive? Well, at this point, I don’t think that is even an issue.

Please explain how you decided Cornell is the least prestigious of the list of schools you are choosing from. I’m up for a little entertainment today.

If you find that Cornell is the best fit for you, and you can afford it I do not see why at ALL you would question yourself! You have made the right decision; good job!

This is a sad thread. Has it come to this? People debating which of those awesome options is the most or least prestigious?
