Am I just being a hypochondriac

I think most people on this forum are pretty ambitious and serious people that take their grades and their futures seriously, so maybe I could get a little input from you guys about my problem, if it really is one.

Last year, as a freshman, I ended the year with a 3.99 gpa. This semester has gone terribly compared to that standard. I have a four classes, and I likely won’t get an A in any of them. The best I can possibly do and will probably do is 3 A-'s and a B+. This is probably is not going to kill me, but I figured that my gpa will probably drop to around 3.9.

This would not be so bad if I were not so damn ambitious. I have wanted to go to one of the first tier law schools for quite some time. The only place for gpa to go is down, down, down. A 3.9 this year will turn into a 3.85 after next year, and so on. Anything lower than a 3.85 pretty much destroys my goal. I would most likely still be able to get into a top 10 or 15 law school, but that means $75,000 less per year and a deflated ego, seriously.

Since I can already tell what grades I will most likely get this semester, I am considering dropping the elective course that is giving me the most trouble. But that would drop me to 14 credit hours. I also already have two W’s from last year, and dropping it would just seem like another cop out.

Here is where I need some advice: Should I drop this course? Are my worries justified? Is my ego too large?

So it’s safe to say that you have no idea whatsoever what a hypochondriac is.

Yeah…you have absolutely NO IDEA what a hypochondriac is!!

FYI - a hypochondriac is someone who is always worried about getting/being sick/catching something serious.

You have no idea what a hypochondriac is.

OP,
you have a lot to think about.

Are you on track to graduate on time? Will dropping to 14 hours this semester put you behind, especially as you indicate you have dropped two courses previously? I assume–although I could be wrong–that you also dropped those courses to maintain your high gpa.

I can understand your desire to go to a tippy-top law school. But seriously, if you can’t handle the courseload you’ve got now, you might want to rethink your plan. The workload at any law school is insane – dropping courses is not an option in law school.

wow…3.9 GPA and doesn’t know what a hypochondriac is.

I think you should be happy about your grades

Wow! Maybe this explains something. Now I feel humbled. I know never to take a psychology course. Then my gpa would really fall.

Psych classes are wicked easy…almost as easy as communications. (At least at my school, communications and psych are regarded as the easiest majors).

OP , you do know that top law school will see those W’s on your transcript don’t you? If you drop the class this semester, they will also see that you got your 3.9 at the expense of taking a smaller load. That may hurt you more than a B+. They will be looking for a complete package, just like the top schools do when you apply as an undergrad. That includes your electives, like you UG application included your EC’s.

A top GPA won’t guarantee admission, and it certainly won’t if you can only get it by dropping down to a minimum course load. How are you doing on progress toward your degree? If you’re dropping classes now, what will you do when the work gets harder in your more advanced classes for your major?
