Am I on the right track?

<p>I’m currently a sophomore, and was wondering if I’m on the right track to getting accepted to somewhere like Duke or Notre Dame. </p>

<p>So far:

  • 5 AP classes
  • 3.62 GPA, 4.33 HPA
  • tennis
  • debate
  • hospital volunteer
  • American Red Cross club</p>

<p>In the future:

  • more AP/IB classes
  • hopefully at least a 3.8 GPA, higher HPA
  • tennis
  • debate
  • hospital volunteer
  • summer internship
  • American Red Cross president
  • student council (if elected)
  • NHS
  • piano (already know how to play, just haven’t played since May)
  • hopefully National Merit Semi-/Finalist
  • SAT scores, rec letters, essays, blah blah</p>

<p>I feel like there’s nothing that makes me stand out from other future applicants. But am I on the right track? Any advice?</p>

<p>Priority is to get your gpa up because it doesn’t look very good, though you have taken a lot of APs. Yeah nothing stand out, but you might be fine with a few club leadership positions, try to consolidate those. Debate aawards of some sort could be nice, piano is meaningless unless you’ve shown some level of achievement maybe via competitions, same with tennis if you’re team is good, you’ll want to note that. Reach some good benchmark for American Red Cross like be the leader of a blood drive type deal so you can brag about how many pints of blood you collected…something like that.</p>
