who said i got a 2 on fcat?

Definitely set your sights higher than a community college, but I think that we have to be realistic about an Ivy. Your scores just aren’t good enough and you’ve had A LOT of C’s, but they’re in AP classes, which I’m saying go for a university. There are a lot of really excellent schools in the South…I mean, Georgia Tech is amazing for engineering, and if you get your SATs up, you definitely have a shot at that. But try taking some SAT IIs and get some high scores on the math to try and compensate all your bad scores in math in HS.
Good luck. :)

omg, you said you got a 2 in reading!!! “FCAT Reading: Lv 2…(scale 1-5)
FCAT Math: Lv 4…(scale 1-5)
FCAT Writes: 5.5…(scale:1-6)
Reading Stanine: 8…(scale:1-9)
Math Stanine: 7…(Scale 1-9)” im checking out your other posts… apparently this is the first time you post this WITH an sat score…

4.0 weighted can be very different from a 4.0 unweighted. Those C’s your junior year are going to kill you, since it’s about your most important year in college apps. I took a 2-years-in-one math course junior year, trig and precalc, and got a B in the class- my only B in high school, and even national merit finalist and a 1530 m+v SAT couldn’t get me into Columbia, which is a relatively lower ivy.

A single C pretty much kills your chances unless you’ve got some national football championships under your belt or some trump card like that.

You could always apply and see what happens, but I take it you didn’t take your time posting to hear BS and it’s been my experience that underestimating ivys only ends up in a ton of wasted time.

I agree with soumanyon in that you’re probably not going to get into an Ivy, but I’m confident that you can get into a solid in-state university.

well my brother got into harvard and he had a C in Physics I Honors, a C in English IV, an F in Calculus, a B in AP Art History, and a B in Econ/American Gov for his senior year. AP Art history was his only AP Class So I mean I guess you guys think too much about Ivy League. He was in football but he didnt get any big awards from it in football. He was just the average student. He got a 420 on verbal, a 590 on math and a 570 on writing. So yah. And my friend got into Harvard also. She had AP Physics B, AP Music Theory, and AP Statistics. She got a C in precalc last year, and has a C in AP Physics B. And she still got in. Her SAT’s were mediocre. So I guess you guys are basing standards off of white ppl because my friend and brother are black and i guess we have different standards. So if I can raise my SAT’s and do well my senior year I WILL get into Harvard. Thanks for the advice though

are you sure you’re not talking about Harvard Community College? :-P

hmmm, Oboes, i am also black, and i got into Harvard (with way higher stats than yours)… but my friend who is also black was waitlisted. and her grades, SAT scores, etc. were much, much higher than yours. but you should go ahead and apply, hopefully being black will help you.

Do any of the Ivies offer a undergraduate nuclear engineering degree? I would guess not.

Beprepn -

I don’t think so. It is offered at places like UMich and MIT, though.

I play oboe and sax and have gotten many awards from it. will that help? is it junk mail when u get student packets from like MIT and Carneige Mellon and stuff? I am getting mail from them and they say that i am a potential student based off of academic promise. I am a very hardworking tudent. tha was my furst time taking the SAT and I didnt know what to expect. in plus maybe my classes are harder at my school than yours so maybe it is easier for you guys to get higher grades.

ok lets say I raise my Math to a 650 which I know I can do, and raise my Verbal to like 600. Will I have a chance then? It doesnt even have to be Ivy. just somethign that everyone doesnt get into.

well, my high school was on Newsweeks list of the 1000 best high schools, but that may mean absolutely nothing…

and schools like Carnegie Mellon, MIT, and other schools, send that stuff to a lot of people. i mean, the more applications they get to their school, the more people they can reject, the lower acceptance rate they will have. and then, their perceived prestige would rise…

i would just say do your best, and apply to as many schools as you want to. don’t let us discourage you from applying. you may surprise us, as well as yourself.

Not everyone gets into UF or FSU, you could get in there with a raised SAT

I already did get accepted to FSU and UF from early admissions as well as USF

with a 650-ish score on all three sections, and you being African American with music awards and i guess decent grades, you may have a chance. I still wouldn’t count on it by any means though. Look for some top schools that are in need of URMs such as African Americans.

How do you get accepted as a Junior…?

I’m just curious. How can you be in the NHS and NEHS with the composite score of English less than 1000? That is very interesting.
I can see how easy your school is.
And I mean, even though English is not your mother language, the 480 verbal is not excusable. My mother language is not English too, and I got 550 after 3 months arrival and without any prep.

Why do you want to major in engineering, if you have struggled with math?

Hey, if you’re so sure you’ll be that exception that gets in with under 2000 SATs, don’t let us disillusion you. But your subject of this post is “Am I qualified for any Ivy’s?” and the common consensus seems to think no. Debate us all you like, but you’re the one who asked our opinions in the first place and I’m sorry that you don’t like them.

I don’t think it’s automatically a “white” or caucasian standard to expect higher than a 1510/2400 SAT if you’re thinking of something like Harvard. URM helps you, but you shouldn’t use it as a crutch. I don’t think my minority status entitles me to get into Harvard if I had a 1510 SAT and my white best friend had a 2300.
