Am I qualified for any Ivy's?

Oboe, don’t get me wrong, you will get into an awesome school, and you know, maybe you will get into an Ivy, I just try to be realistic and sometimes try to push it on others (my idea of realism that is).

And if those are the problems for you in highschool, you’ll probably do better in college with the lack of needing to turn in homework and focusing on subjects you actually care for.

Don’t let some of us get you down, sometimes we’re a bit too cynical or harsh in our words, but most of us want the best :stuck_out_tongue: :)

all i have to say is… “whatever,” this thread was pointless… since when is mediocrity awarded with prestige just because of a guy’s race? im hispanic (an ethnicity, not a race), and no matter what, getting Cs are bad… but they’re not just in ap classes, they are in precal too(and you wanted to go to AP CALCULUS BC!!!)… and you started out with English I regular… what the heck? then english 2 honors, to ap english? !!! if he gets into an ivy league school, then my 100k+ 2nd/3rd generation immigrant family income, which throws my URM status out the window cause i obviously have faced little to no struggles that other URMs and low-income familes suffer/go through, can also get me into harvard… massachusetts here i come! bottom line… UF=maybe with a good SAT…ivyleague=NO!.. good luck on your ap english exam tomorrow, though! (not sarcasm, im sincere, lol, i hope we do well)

ps, what county are you in? im palm beach we go AP: 6,4.5,3,1.5,0 for ABCDF, rep & HONORS: 4.5,3.375,2.25,1.125,0 resp…
“ok im a failure and i accept it now lol”, you arent a failure, you’re just aiming WAAAAAAAAAAY too high, but we all get that… we are "under"overachivers…

-FFF

whoa, who said anything about them praising me for being black? man shut up you dont know what u r talking about. and i wanted calc bc because i wanted to push myself to do better, you dont know anything about me, and wha the hell does you being hispanic have to do with a damn thing? and i was just stating what race i was because i thought it might make a difference. and for the LAST time, it doesnt have to be IVY, just a good school. GOOOOOODDDDDDDDDDD do u listen? dont come posting crap ove here whne u dont know wha the crap u r talking about. dont waste my time cuz im getting emails everytime someone sends something. And second of all, i started off in reg english because i wasnt in magnet, and the fact tha i increased my level from reg to honors to AP will show that i challenged myself each year, so thanks but not really to your input, and it aint none of ur business what county im from, why is that relevant to a damn thing?

g’night… we should def be sleeping… ::closes all windows::
-fff

OMG… Oboe is so popular just because he wants to go to IVY… give him a break…
hahahaaa… I don’t know why this thread can go up to 80+ reply… I wish my thread can be so too… :(

yay im popular lol, im already popular though but yay im popular on CC for beign a mediocre student interesed in Ivy lol. (which could very well happen by the way, i mean u heard it urselves, if u have other stuff to offer to the table it isnt all about grades and SAT’s. my playing oboe and sax is gonna carry me far),good night i have an ap english test to review for

okay, well if you want to hear about all good schools and not the ivies, then i’ll add my two cents. You won’t get into any good schools.

peace.

i already have through early admissions, so peace out to you too know it all , well i guess in this case u know nothing

stop it!!! i get emails everytime someone posts somthing new here!!! im trying to sleep ::turns off volume::…obodude, sigh, forget it… jakedude, HEHEHEHEHE :)… that is all…

-fff

Honestly, no, you could not get into any ivy league schools. I seriously doubt I could get into any Ivy league schools, and my GPA is probably .5 higher than yours unweighted, with an upward trend, not downward, and my test scores are in the top 25% for almost any school (cept harvard, yale, MIT)…so, to conclude, no, you could not get into any top 50 school unless being black is so enormously huge that it overshadows everything else.

Oboe, I’m still curious about those early admissions… is it because of your oboe/sax playing skills? (I play alto, btw, so kudos to you)

I also am from florida, and am a bit curious.

Thanks!

This is tiring. You keep contradicting yourself, Oboe.

That sounds like a rebuke from a middle grader, especially if you actually expect us to believe it. Ever heard that all thieves believe everyone else is a thief?

Of course you’re already a popular kid. None of us doubt that. Why wouldn’t you be popular, despite all the pretentious bragging, chat speak, and pompous self-assurances? You keep calling us insecure. I think that’s a bit hypocritical.

You’re not a mediocre student interested in ivy. Mediocre ivy-hopefuls are the ones with the perfect gpas, but no extra. Or they have 1400-ish SATs out of 1600. You’re below national average. And no, grades and SATs aren’t everything, but since university is pretty centered around academics, don’t you think they should count for a decent chunk? Unless you’ve got a record deal with that oboe/sax playing and a grammy or two, I doubt it’ll carry you that far. And I think you’ve already heard the opinions of several minority kids who are telling you straight up that relying to race to get you something that you haven’t earned is unreliable at best, not to mention despicable, even to other URM kids.

By the way, “ivy league” is only a group of universities who play sports together. Nothing more, nothing less, and although connatations have given it a major status boost, there are better schools, or schools that are just as good who don’t wrestle football with the ivies. Wanting to get into a school simply based on a reputation is gonna get you nowhere fast, especially when those types of schools often focus more on their graduate schools than undergrad. Look beyond the superficials.

When you seriously start looking at colleges, you’ll realize that there’s a lot more to a decision than prestige, or at least there should be.

Last–apply to all the ivies you want, don’t let us stop you. But as I said before, you asked our opinions. Why the bad names and claims that we know nothing, when you asked our advice in the first place? Take it or leave it, but stop making excuse after transparent excuse in the hopes of making everyone suddenly exclaim, “yup, there’s a shoo-in for Harvard!” because guess what? even if you get perfect SATs, a perfect GPA (which you most likely won’t–honors and ap classes aren’t excuses–you really think there aren’t a few thousands kids in the US alone who can’t take 5 aps a semester and ace them all?), and you play oboe like a heavenly choir, adcoms are weird people that often don’t play by common sense, as your convenient example about your brother illustrates.

Some parts of this post were harsh and I suppose I’ll feel somewhat apologetic for writing it sometime tomorrow, but as of right now, I’m completely fed up. So, take my opinions as you will, or, most likely, as you won’t.

This affirmative action thing is causing such mediocrities to hope that the Ivies will accept them.

Judging from the ample income, you have had no disadvantages at all in your education. And thus, there is absolutely no reason for you to get an upper hand in acceptance. This is precisely why I advocate affirmative action based on income not on ethnicity.

Having that said, you still have close to no chance at the Ivies.

On a related note, I hope you realize you come across as clueless and belligerent in your idiotic posts.

wow…soumanyon…very well constructed argument

soumanyon: i totally agree with everything he just said

It’ll be hard to major in those if you’re AP Bio’s only a B and you’re not super in Chem. I’d say raise your SAT’s a lot.

lol, noones giving this thread a rest… 1800+ views… geesh… i guess they must look at the first page and go “huh?”…

Here’s what u should do after u improve ur grades and etc.:

Use Florida Bright Futures to pay 100% tuition to UF, which is a top 50 school with better programs than some Ivies

… but can he jump from a 1000 to 1270? within the year? i took me like 2 years to go from a 970-1290 (i took it freshman cause i was in gifted n took it for berlin banks, the latter score is from like april 06 n im a junior)

fast27, miami? WHOOT WHOOT! pbc! rep south fla!!

hey guys i just got my April 1st SAT score back and I got a 700 on Verbal, 710 on Math and 540 on writing. I knew I was gonan do good but I guess that is still bad compared to you guys. does this change you guys’ entire perspective now from me being dumb? I told you that I didnt really try on that SAT but no you guys didnt wanna believe me and I knew I was gonna do good on this one. Am I qualified for any Ivy’s now?

those are really good scores, if you can improve your writing at all, it would be an even bigger plus. but i will say that you are more qualified for the ivies now, than you were when this thread was started. that being said, the ivies are still a reach.
