When I travelled to Europe a couple of months ago, I was reminded that Americans are really particular about their beds and the way they do it there is not up to par with how we like it here. No matter what your fabric choice, we still like our beds comfy with nice pillows…as in multiple and the size of the comforter should correspond with the size of the bed. I don’t care for the standard they use. The beds for two have two twin size comforters rather than one large one enough to cover two sleepers . One pillow per person. Just not what I am used to. We have a variation of pillows that are different firmnesses in down and a duvet ( king ) with a quilt to cover that. It has to be just right and I cannot sleep in a bed that isn’t made up correctly.

I am a picky, cool, and crisp girl and usually dissatisfied with BB&B sheets.

I found these at Costco last month and like them:

[Kirkland Signature? 540 TC Supima® Cotton Sateen Weave Sheet Set- King](http://www.costco.com/Kirkland-Signature™-540-TC-Supima®-Cotton-Sateen-Weave-Sheet-Set--King-.product.100011969.html)

Was hesitant about the ‘sateen’ name but they feel cool and crisp cottony.

I just bought sheets from Garnet Hill – they are cotton percale, crisp and cool, and a little pricey.

LL Bean sells old fashioned cotton percale sheets. Very high quality, but they are pricey:

[Sheets: Bedding | Free Shipping at L.L.Bean](http://www.llbean.com/llb/shop/1156/0/Relevance/1?gnrefine=1*SHT_TYP*Percale&nav=p4b-131)

The comforter covers are fantastic. Perfect fit for the Bean down comforters. Ties inside each corner to secure the comforter. And, massive buttons that make it easy to close up the open end.

I wonder how these would be, I’ve heard to look for Percale, All Cotton…

I just don’t want to end up with 15 sets of experimental sheets in my linen closet…

Twenty plus years ago I bought a couple of sets of Sheridan sheets on sale at a Sheridan store in the mall and they are by far my favorite sheets!

I am also picky about sheets.I spend for 600 count pillowcases,if not the sheets. I have also spoiled my kids with the 600 count pillowcases. The best deals are at Ross, which is like Marshall’s. I do not iron my sheets, but they look fine if I fold them right out of the dryer.

You aren’t the only one. Unfortunately cotton products have gone to heck in the last few years… Think about how flimsy fashion tee shirts have become …when I complained at a shop that caters to older ladies (coldwater creek) I was told that the new tees are"more comfortable for layering".
Good thread count used to mean good quality.
Now 350 thread count usually means 350 skinny, stubby, ugly, barely there threads per inch.
And 600 count isn’t luxury but a bunch of weak fibers that wear out in a year or two.

I’m a very frustrated good linens person.

We like

The Company Store

Garnet Hill

We too love a great bed. About eight years ago, I got Sealy 450 t.c. sheets at JCP. They are still very soft with no pilling.

I splurged on the Sferra sheets for my bedroom. The sheets are pricey, but the quality is superb–the sheets also last for years.

[SFERRA Celeste Collection Duvet Covers](<a href=“Celeste Collection – SFERRA”>Celeste Collection – SFERRA)

I sometimes see Sferra sheets on Ruelala at a discounted price.

Oh my, those are pricey.

I really can’t do this online. I need to FEEL the sheets!

I have always had luck with the Bloomingdales store brand. I also like their linen department because the sales folks always have been helpful and knowledgeable.

Thumper1, I know, that’s how I’m feeling too. It’s such a subjective thing.

But, these are great starting ideas, and it’s comforting to know that I’m not the only neurotic one…sometimes I feel like the princess and the pea.

You have to be careful with the higher thread count sheets as they tend to be softer and not crisp like you want. 100% cotton percale is what you want to look for. My best “crisp” sheets have come from Land’s End, in the overstocks section usually so they are cheep, $15 or so for a king flat or fitted. I have had wonderful luck at Target as well. They have samples so you can feel them. I also like that they have elastic that goes all the way around the fitted sheet. I used to get great sheets from the Martha Stewart line at Kmart of all places too but haven’t shopped there in several years. The sheets I have on my bed are MS from Kmart and they are WONDERFUL. I think they are 300-350 thread count.

When I went shopping a year ago for sheets for S2’s new apartment, my goal was to get the most reasonably priced cotton percale sheet set I could find. I got those on sale at Macy’s, but I wasn’t as concerned with thread count, softness (as long as they didn’t feel like sandpaper), etc. They weren’t for me and S2 is much less picky about his sheets.

We definitely need new sheets too and, like thumper and justamom, I need to see how the sheets feel. Even if you find sheets you like brand-new in the store, who knows how well they hold up after several washings.

You are not the only picky one! My D (now a senior in college) worked in the local Macy’s in the Home Department, then in college was hired by a luxury linen store near her school. She is VERY picky about her bedding. It’s the one area where I splurged a little for both kids when getting their college stuff. I remember how sleep-deprived I was in college and wanted to make sure they had comfortable beds!

When H and I picked out the brand we have now (it’s the Wamsutta Pinpoint), we spent at least a half an hour in BBB putting all the samples against my cheek (H would only feel with his fingers). “Too slippery.” “Too thin.” “Too rough.” “Too fluffy.” “Too hot.”

Knowing me, I’ll just end up right back there buying the same ones again, probably in the same color. They’re not cheap either. They are sold a la carte so a set including pillowcases was around $100, I think. I’ll have to make sure I save my BBB coupons.

(ps, thanks, Mods, for fixing my typo in the title. )

I am very devoted to Garnet Hill sheets. Also towels. Terrific quality for the price.
