Am I the only one that is super-picky about sheets?

Just picked up some at Macy’s that were very crisp. Charter Club Collection Series, 700 thread count, King. $170 regular price, on sale for $99 with 25% coupon came to $75 plus tax. They are in the wash now before I use them, but had a great feel to them.

I’m not horribly super picky about my bedding… but my bed is!! It’s a euro top mattress that is very difficult to find sheets that fit! And when I do find them, they are usually very expensive. I currently alternate between a flannel set that my parents got me and another set that I picked up at walmart of all places. I Must have gone to 10 stores and couldn’t find any sheets that fit my bed - including walmart. I finally found them at a 2nd walmart.

I’m assuming now that these poofy beds are a bit more in circulation more places probably sell deeper sheets.

Macys & Amazon carry the Sferra sheets also, but um, those are out of my price range unless they came with Eddie Vedder to test them out.
I also have had good luck with sateen stripe sheets from Costco.

Collegemom2012, let me know how you like them!

Here’s a good explanation of the “thread count” marketing gimmick:

[Linenplace - The Truth About Thread Count](http://www.linenplace.com/product_guide/truth_about_thread_count.html)

With cotton percale sheets, you have 100 threads running horizontal woven with 100 threads running vertical for a 200 threads per square inch count. To get high thread counts in inexpensive sheets, they simply weave two or three or four or five threads horizontal for each vertical thread. Thus, they get a high thread count, but not necessarily a better product. I think this why all these high thread count “sateen” sheets feel so flimsy.

Till this thread (pun not intended) I’d never given a second thought about sheets other than they are the right size for the mattress.

I’m also picky about sheets. I like Lands End, and often find them in overstocks, and also LLBean. I once found Sferra sheets for a great price on Ebay, and they were wonderful. I like sheets with embroidery, pintucks, or hemstitching.

My current favorite sheets are Ralph Lauren that I bought at the RL Outlet a few years ago. I also just got rid of a set of sateen sheets that just wore terribly and became really uncomfortable to use. I also like the Shabby Chic collection at Target which older d has on her full-size bed in her room. Generally Target has nice collection of bedding as compared to our local BB & B… which seems to have gone downhill in quality as they carry so much more of the beyond products and far less bed, bath. Actually our local BB & B remains closed as they were flooded out by Hurricane Sandy.

Throughout this thread I’ve heard good things about Target’s bedding. I think I’ll check it out next time I go there!

Sateen…ugh. I hate it. Slippery.

Please pardon the highjacking here, but speaking of bed linens…DS became a fan of his duvet while studying in Europe and I’d like to get him one for his bed at home. (We’ve always used blankets and comforters or bedspreads, so the duvet concept was new to him.) Not impossible to find, but not easy. Bought the insert but I’m still looking for the cover–needs to be inexpensive (< $50) and a solid, masculine color, for a double bed. Suggestions?

You iron your sheets?

I guess I fail at laundry, it honestly never occurred to me that that is something one would do.

I don’t iron… it seems easier to simply stick to clothes that don’t require it. (I’m lucky - at my job business casual is fine). So I can’t imagine ironing sheets. But years ago my aunt told me about a neighbor that ironed her sheets and towels too.

^

I had a granny who ironed her H’s and sons’ undershorts! Crazy!

The reviews though, are all over the place.

This thread is exactly why I love CC so much! I will use all of this good information when buying my new sheets!

masslou, If you have an Ikea near you, you’ll find that they have lot’s and lot’s of inexpensive duvet covers.
This was an interesting read:

Of course, it’s from 2006…

masslou–check out the big box type stores like Target. They have a large selection of duvet covers in many solid colors or more masculine prints. Does he WANT a cover though? The covers do change the feel of the duvet (obviously). I just want to make sure that we are talking about the same thing though. When I’ve been to Europe, the beds had more of a feather bed topper, not so much a down quilt that you put into a duvet.

That is EXACTLY what I’ve been looking for in sheets also – cool and crisp. I had a perfect set a number of years ago and I’ve not been able to match it since. I hate the smooth, slippery sateen finish. I just found this article (but it was written in 2006): [We found what you want: Cool, crisp sheets - Chicago Tribune](<a href=“We found what you want: Cool, crisp sheets”>We found what you want: Cool, crisp sheets)

Has anyone tried these?

Just make sure you take the measurements with you to IKEA. We bought a twin duvet cover there and it did NOT FIT…they had some oddball European sizing that did not align with our U.S. made duvet.
