Am I the only one that is super-picky about sheets?

Those articles are both from 2006. I’m guessing things may have changed in 6 years.

I’m very happy with out Target sheets. Since each of us has a duvet, with a cover, there’s no need for a flat sheet but it’s become harder and harder to find sheet separates. I order the Target ones online. They fit very nicely, are 100% cotton, feel crisp and weather permitting, when dried in the sun are pure heaven.

I just bought two sets of 100% cotton percale sheets at target…the label says “cool and crisp”. One set was 375 count and the other 250…but they feel right. Full size set $38.50.

Mostly happy withthe Macy’s sheets. Cool, crisp.wrinkle resistant. The were just a tiny, tiny bit “scratchy”, but they had only been washed the first time. I would get them again, but will check out Target and Lands End as well.

Can’t wait to hear how you like them, Thump! We saw the same ones today (I can’t say I was impressed by the color choices, though) and H, true to form, said, “Why don’t we just go to BBB and get the same ones we have now?” God forbid we chose anything DIFFERENT. Next time I go to Target by myself…you never know what might happen. :)

Re: duvet covers, I thought a cover was the way to go because it seems a duvet cover is much easier to launder. The finished product of my down alternative comforter is 84 x 90. This is another case of our speaking another language than is spoken ‘across the pond’! In my mind a comforter is basically a quilted bedspread that typically has to be dry cleaned, although I realize some can be washed. Duvet insert and comforter seem to be interchangeable terms to some, so I have to make the adjustment in my mind…His duvet in Germany had a cover he likens to a giant pillow case and he just took the duvet out for the oh-so-rare trip to the laundry room! He’s a tough one to buy for so I thought I’d get him one for Christmas since I know he enjoyed it. I think it’s the light-weight nature of the duvet that he appreciated. Says he gets tired of his heavy bedding.

Great thread and it’s nice to know I’m not alone in how picky I am about sheets…for me, I’m not as concerned about crisp and cool as I am about soft without pilling. Like others, the sateen sheets i’ve purchased in the past have been slippery which I can’t stand.

My current sheets were bought probably 10 years ago when the wamsutta stores were still in outlet malls. They had samples of all their sheets out so you could feel them and I was very loyal to this particular one…can’t recall the details and the sheets are on my bed right now so I can’t check but about 2 years ago I searched and searched but these same sheets are no longer made.

Will check out the Costco ones recommended…good return policy and reasonably priced. Really need new sheets as this last set is on its ‘last legs’!!

Did someone mention Macy’s Charter Club collection sheets? I bought those for our King size bed @4-5 years ago and very happy. We bought extra pillow cases since we sleep with more than one pillow at a time! My S1 at college loves his jersy ones. I also will not buy the Sateen.

Ok. I have the 250 count sheets on my bed. They are the right thickness but not as soft as before they were washed. I’m hoping they soften up over time. The 350 counts also got washed. They are nice and soft but not as thick feeling as they felt before washing. But I do think they will be nice and soft. I’ll be putting those on the bed next week. Both sets were wrinkled when I took them out of the dryer but honestly I’d rather have wrinkles than polyester, sateen, microfiber.

I got one set of blue (sort of a blue grey) and the other set is a nice stripe, thin grey, blue-grey and white stripes.

I have the Thomas Lee sheets referenced above because I read the reviews, so it must have been six years ago! Still have the same sheets, bought a second set to have an extra. You do need to take them out of the dryer so they don’t wrinkle more, and in a perfect world they would be ironed to make them even more luxurious.

They do have a 30 day return policy so I do recommend giving them a try

Thanks for the Lands End tips! Just ordered a set with today’s 40% off one item promotion. I cannot stand the pilling on cheap sets. My ancient LLBean set finally tore in the washer because they got so thin and, not having a spare set, I quickly purchased something midrange. Bad idea, but now I have a desperation 2nd set as soon as my order arrives.

Really love percale…nothing beats its cool feeling.

Thought of this thread as I was getting in bed last night with freshly washed sheets. :)

Decided that my Ralph Lauren sheets from TJ Maxx do not fit the “crisp” category. They are always “cool” when I get into bed, but they fall more in the “soft and cool” category. BTW, they do NOT pill - I usually wash the same sheets over and over over the course of a couple of years with no problem.

I just pulled DD’s new sheets from Target out of the package to put in the wash. They have a nice elastic piece to hold down the corners better on the fitted sheet. Pretty nice. I will have to see if it helps or how it works on her bed.

Ok…it’s only been one night and one washing but…the 250 count sheets are ok, but a little rougher than I thought. I think they will get better with wear.

I just can’t understand why finding good (my definition, of course) sheets is such a challenge…sigh…

^^OP:

It’s frustrating, for sure. I looked at the Macy’s website to see the type of sheets we bought a few years ago and there seems to be soooo many choices in that one Charter Club brand! Very frustrating. We bought in a very light peach color they don’t even seem to have now…we bought Pima Cotton…I know that much…they were kinda pricey, but with sales & coupons they came in under $100 for a king sized set…we did buy extra pillowcases…not sure if that brought it over the $100 mark or not, don’t remember.

We wash them and put them back on the bed immediately, no ironing here. Of course washing the mattress pad at the same time is a load in itself. There is absolutely no pilling at all and the sheets have stayed somewhat fresh & crisp. It’s been at least 4 years so I’m not sure how long we have until we need to buy a new set…

They are still holding up pretty well and not rough or too soft. The ladies in the bed & bath dept. at Macy’s were quite helpful and steered me toward a better sheet…I also will not buy sateen and I personally am not one for striped sheets unless they are very thin stripes and fit the bill for fresh & crisp cotton, not sateen. Good luck finding that elusive set!

Mine are a nice subdued stripe…very thin. I actually like the stripes…just not sure I like the texture of the sheets.

I really don’t have a problem spending the $$ to buy a “better sheet”…if I was sure it was what I wanted! There’s just so many options, and even options within options. And a lack of consistency across the labels of weave, texture, etc. And, as Thumper discovered, even when you DO feel it in the store, the texture changes as the sheets are washed.

It wouldn’t be fun to have a linen closet full of (expensive) experiments…

FYI, Tuesday Morning has a new sale starting tomorrow and they just opened it up online.

They have Peacock Alley sheets (400 thread count) this time. I ordered queen size, regularly over $400.00 for the set for $89.00. I also ordered and extra set of pillow cases regularly $100.00 for $29.00.

When they offer Peacock Alley I can never get to the store in time to get them so I’ve taken to watching online close to the sale date and getting them that way.

They are “forever” sheets, but the thing I love about them the most is that they are big enough! Other sheets I have had, even very nice ones are never wide enough and hubby and I used to play tug of war all night. No more!

I have had some success at Ross in buying 100% cotton sheets, but inventory varies widely. Finding them is quite a treasure hunt, especially full-size, which is less common than the other sizes, at Ross and most other stores. The bedding I have purchased at Ross does NOT pill and is a high thread count–400, 600 and I believe even 800. LOVE it but am now spoiled for anything less.
