Am I the only one that is super-picky about sheets?

I just have to say…I have seen NO correlation between thread count and what I want the sheets to feel like. In addition, I’ve had 100% cotton sheets that pilled, and part poly ones that were as smooth as glass years later.

I bought two sets of 100% sateen sheets for DS…same manufacturer, same style. One set was blue and the other tan. The tan ones began to pill after the second washing, and got tossed. The blue ones are still as smooth and soft as can be (I hate them, but DS loves them).

I’m not sure even choosing by make and model…and fabric type…will guarantee success. One reason I will NOT spend $100 on a sheet set!

Thumper–I get stripped sheets so I know which way to put them on our king sized bed :D.

srw, I checked out the sheets on Tuesday Morning…for the Peacock Alley ones it says

That turned me right off, it sounds like Sateen to me. (great savings, though) Do you already have these?

I have one pair that are lighter weight than the ones I just bought, have been great for summer, but they are not sateen. They are very smooth, no shine maybe a slight sheen.

I would suggest you go to Dept. stores just to get a feel for what you’re looking for. I really valued the advice from the salespeople, since they are right there all day long and have an idea of what is better quality…they don’t work on commission, so they’re not going to just sell you anything just to make money!

There really is a difference in the quality of sheets, and when we spent a bit more, we saw the quality vastly improved.

Not sure price is the key thing either. The sheets we are retiring came from an odd lot store and were $10 for the sets (full size…two sheets and two pillow cases)…ten years ago.

Why do so many of you not care for sateen sheets? That is the only kind we like. I just purchased a new set from Cuddledown online for 25% off during Thanksgiving weekend. We have a super-thick mattress so I have to get the fitted sheets for that size.

My other favorite sets are by Eileen Fisher from Garnet Hill. I will pay a lot for high-quality sheets but I usually wait for a sale.

In my case I don’t like them because they are shiny and I like matte looking finish, they are slippery on the bed and are way too soft feeling. I just like the old fashioned fresh, crisp & clean feeling you get from good quality cottons. They breathe easier.

I don’t know if this belongs here or on the good buy of the day thread. Justamom had such good luck with her wamsutta sheets from BBB that I felt compelled to look there. So I did. They ONLY wamsutta sheets I liked we’re the Egyptian cotton…sold only as separates…$25 per sheet, and $25 for a set of two pillow cases. Even with 20% off, that price was just too high.

But wait…a set was in the clearance rack. Total including all of my coupons $32. They are a nice pale seafoam green color, and apparently were part of a display. Score!

^^Congrats, Thumper! I always look for those kinds of deals. I try not to pay full price for anything anymore! Some store is always having a sale on items so if we look and the timing is right we can find anything at a bargain!

Posting here so the ‘good buy of the day’ thread can stay on topic.

I don’t know if I ever reported on the Costco sheets we picked up on impulse. I wanted a few months of use/washing before weighting in. They’re Kirkland Signature, 540ct Sateen 100% Supima Cotten, came w 4 pillow cases, in china blue. I LOVE them!! I would have bought more but the other beds are full and they only have queen and king sets. They are not as ‘slick’ as most sateen, which I’m not fond of, and after a year they show no visible signs of wear. They are slightly wrinkled out of the dryer and only because I’m a nut (and my iron is always up in the laundry rm) I do run a quick iron over the pillow cases if I get to them before DH puts them back on the bed. I think we paid around $50-60, certainly no more. We’d definitely purchase again!

Wish they had these in a double bed size.

Seriously Emerald…we have three full size beds. Sheets are getting harder to find in that size…and we have NO intention of getting queen beds. I wish Costco carried full size sheets too!

I’m gonna have to get me some of those Costco sheets. Next time I’m over there!

Emeraldkity and thumper: you can use queen size sheets on a double bed. Just tuck the bottom sheet in really well and also the bottom of the top sheet. They aren’t all that much bigger.

I use a favorite set of king sized sheets on the queen bed in my guest room because the color fits in there. It works OK to go down one size.

I have one set of the Costco sheets and they are very nice and a great price.

Ditto what bookiemom said! I’ve been trying to find full sheets for DS’s bed. Finally decided just a few days ago to try one of our queen size Kirkland sets on the full size bed. It works pretty well. The bottom sheet doesn’t stay quite as taut as would be ideal but it’s a quick fix to just tuck in the side in a couple of spots to get it smooth again.

Reading this thread convinced me to take a chance on the Costco sheets when I was in the store yesterday. Washed them today and just put them on the bed. Have to say I am impressed so far. I am very picky about sheets and have never cared too much for sateen. I don’t find these to feel like sateen at all – they have more of a crisp texture but are still soft. Thanks to all who shared. I think these are going to be very nice. They came out of the dryer less wrinkled than any of the very expensive sheets I bought at Bloomingdales.

Bookie…actually queen sheets don’t work on my double bed at all. I have a regular tempurpedic mattress that is not particularly thick. Those deep pocket queen sheets are HUGE on my double bed. In fact some of the deep pocket double sheets are a bit big…and need to be tucked in.

There are still people with full size beds, and they still sell them. Costco won’t be getting my sheet business…they don’t carry the right size. it’s too bad they don’t carry full size sheets.

I mean really why would I buy sheets that are too big, and need to tuck them in when I can for elsewhere and get the right size sheet?

I hate that they size comforters for full/queen.
Too big & too heavy.
A twin size is a better fit. I have a full/ queen down comforter from costco, but as we have a memory foam mattress, it is too hot most of the time ( & our house is cold from November through March)
I dont use flat sheets, just a fitted sheet & a duvet.
All our beds are doubles, we got rid of our queen bed when the kids & the dog stopped sleeping with us. ;)

And now that we have a new, albeit slightly smaller dog, I am amazed at how much room he manages to take up!

I don’t know if I could use a “too big” fitted sheet, I’m kind of like the Princess and the Pea, I can feel every annoying little wrinkle…Luckily I have a queen mattress.
