Am I the Only One who Has Problems with Touchpad on Laptop??

Thank god for Lenovo… the tablet I bought for university has no touchpad! Just the little hat thing, which I like much more anyways. Happy me. :)

Your laptop came with a hat - I’m jealous. I just disabled tapping - didn’t know about that and not even sure what tapping is but I don’t think I like it. I agree that limp wrists are my problem.

I always use a mouse. DH and DD and DS have no trouble with touchpads, but I just can’t bear them. My fine motor skills are fine  As long as I’ve got my reading glasses, I can embroider and do needlepoint, for example. I just can’t get the hang of a touchpad.

I have experienced a problem with every Windows based laptop with a touchpad I have ever owned, regardless of brand. Whenever I permit the pointer to come to rest on a button or active area of the screen, including lines of text in Word, the computer acts as if I have clicked the mousepad key. Accidental deletions, insertions, repositioning of text cursers, closings of windows etc. Perhaps that is what some of the above posters are experiencing, not their own “clumsiness”.

That’s exactly the problem and I did think I was doing something wrong. My D is begging for a Mac for college - another reason to consider it.

D and H have the same laptop as I have; neither have the problem that I do with the cursor jumping elsewhere. I’ll keep an eye on my palms over the touchpad and see if that’s what’s causing it to happen.

Maybe Macs are different. I have a laptop with touch pad and no problems whatsoever. I have just typed 200+ pages on it with no incident. H is a Mac fanatic so he would probably say that’s the reason. I’m not sure.

Macbook here (Mac laptop) - has a touchpad, same problems Windows users describe in this thread. I bought a mouse.

Don’t get me wrong, I like my Mac - but don’t buy one because you think the touchpad will work better.

(Mac negative - the danged thing is white. The area below my keypad where I rest my wrists is constantly filthy. I have to clean it regularly.)

Astrophysicsmom: The deletion preferences which I adjusted were in “options” within the email account. I don’t think there is anything like that for just regular documents.

Astrophysicsmom; I don’t know why you don’t have properties for the mouse…I have it on my HP and Toshiba laptops. I checked on the Dell laptop forum and when the question has come up, people are told to download the latest driver…here is the link to the forum…perhaps you could ask there.

THANKS!!! (Obviously, I was too lazy to look…it’s a lot easier to whine.) I’ll check it out.

The touchpad actually works? :)

Yeah, I hate those touch pads. I have a new job that involves some work on an office laptop that doesn’t have a mouse. It’s inefficient.

Buy a usb mouse for $12.99 at office max or office depot - or maybe even target.

I know. It’s just that I’m 25 years older than the rest of the staff, and I’m trying to look cool
