I’ve been using computers for many years now…I do pretty well, I think. But, I recently started using a laptop with a touchpad and have encountered a little, itty bitty, problem. Somehow, every once in a while, I seem to inadvertently touch something I shouldn’t. I accidentally deleted something that I didn’t mean to. After investigating, I learned about deletion preferences, and I have modified it so that in case I should accidentally do it again, it won’t be out of the system.

Anyway, am I the only one with this problem?

Thanks, Curmudgeon. I owe you one. Gosh, what on earth are we doing online at this time in the morning? Why is it that sometimes, sleep seems so…boring.

( of course I am Pacific Time- I was working at the garden show- took the bus except since it was rerouted because of a bridge closure- I got off at the wrong place- so I walked the rest of the way.)

But anyway- I like the touch pad- but I never did like the mouse.
There are settings though to adjust speed- etc- plus there are probably shareware programs to adjust it even more.

Oh and I called up my older D- to ask her where to get the bus- ( and since she hasn’t called me back for a while) and she couldn’t talk because she had a * friend* over.
But she did answer the phone.

Oh, me too. When I had one, i was using two hands–one to move the cursor, the other to click–and I’ve got tiny hands, so it’s not just bear paws, Curm! Anyway, when I go back to laptop, it’ll definitely be mouse-equipped.

I only have a problem on this board. Sometimes while I am typing a post I hit something and the whole page disappears along with everything I’m typing. I’ve never figured out what it is. It never happens anywhere else. I’ve never been able to do it on purpose.

Received a laptop for birthday from the rest of my family. Within 2 days they went out and bought me a “real keyboard” and mouse because of the problems I was having. And I thought I was quite coordinated, generally.

My husband gave me a nice laptop for Christmas. One week later I went out and got myself a wireless mouse for New Years. I’m full of static electricity or something; I don’t even have to touch the pad for things to disappear, or the page suddenly reverts to something I’d been looking at several minutes earlier.

My kids think it is just an artifact of being “old”.

ok sonssecty, tell me where to find the deletion preferences. I have the same problem…I figure it’s where I rest my hands or something. I type fast, and don’t always look at what I’ve typed…to find out I’ve deleted something and kept on typing is more than a little frustrating. also, sometimes instead of deleting things, the cursor goes up a couple of lines and I start typing in the middle of what I’d already done. What gives there?

I got a wireless notebook mouse from logitech at best buy. Although I am pretty good with the touchpad, the mouse is way better for my occasional gaming sessions.

This happens to me all the time. Very annoying. I have a nice trackball I use with my laptop, but just brushing my palms over the touchpad seems to make it happen.

Ref typing on a laptop and suddenly finding yourself in another paragraph…go to control panel/mouse…you will see various settings…adjust tapping or palm check sensitivity…some models have a “disable tapping when typing” box.

natmicstef…I have a dell laptop; I can’t find anything in the mouse settings for the disable tapping when typing box. Am I missing it, or does Dell just not have it.

Curm, nope, no bear paws here… actually little bitty hands here. It’s the lazy wrists/heels of my hand that I suspect are messing me up. Hmmph.

When I bought my Macbook, I paid extra and bought a mouse to go with it. I find the touchpad truly annoying. Plus I am addicted to “right-clicking” to do anything.

Curmudgeon… “a bear trying to needlepoint” … lol you always make me laugh!
