Amazing Race 23

AR almost always has 2 races a year - fall and the February round. So glad it’s not just once a year!!

I guess I hadn’t noticed they had 2 per year. I’m glad they do.

I know I’m late to the party here, but … H & I watch AR on a fairly regular, but not consistent basis. Question: what are the rules about who does which Road Block? If there was a choice, I didn’t understand why Nicole did the robot building after failing so miserably on the musical instrument. We were not a fan of the ER docs the last several episodes.

Glad Jason & Amy won.

I might not be 100% right but I think that they must equally split the roadblocks through the course of the race - so if there are 12 roadblocks, each must at some point complete 6. I don’t recall that Nicole had lacked in doing earlier roadblocks, but it sure seemed like she ended up with many at the end.

I’m just hoping in real life that Nicole is a kick a_s doctor and can go back and rock it out at the hospital - and show up her husband a few times. :)

This is the “Flo” rule (Flo and Zach won - Zach did all but 2 of the roadblocks as Flo was pretty darn useless).

Felt really bad for Nicole, but she did manage to climb that ice with only one pick.

I wasn’t thrilled that Amy kept helping Nicole . . . but I loved her explanation of her strategy: help the doc’s make it to the finals, and then stopping helping them! As she predicted, once they were on their own, they crashed and burned.

I would much rather have seen the Afghanimals make it to the finals. After all, unlike the doc’s, they actually made it through all the challenges on their own. But I see Amy’s point . . . they would have been a real threat if they’d made it to the finals. Too bad, though, because they really deserved it so much more than the doc’s.

Thanks for the explanation, abasket & firefly - certainly makes sense. Clearly we weren’t keeping track of who had done how many roadblocks.

I was happy Jason and Amy won and thought it was hilarious that Marie negotiated a 60/40 split. She was pretty hard to watch and so was Travis at the end. You could see that Travis berating had a very negative effect on Nicole.

Found the Afghanimals annoying at first but had to respect them in the end. I do notlike how it is becoming a game of alliances like Survivor. Amy essentially kept Nicole and Travis in the race. Now if she did it because she thought they were easier to beat so be it. But the alliance thing is not right to me.

Re: number of roadblocks. I had a look at the Wiki page and the women in the final three teams all did 7 roadblocks while the men did 6. So, Travis could have chosen to do one of them if he’d wanted to do so, at the end.

But if Travis had done one and messed it up, then he wouldn’t have anybody to blame. He really irritated me.

I thought the 60/40 split was pretty funny too.

I like the couple that won. They supported and encouraged each other- showed real team work and that, ultimately, is what wins.

Best finale in a long time. Challenging, fun (human bowling in Tokyo, walking through an ice cave in Alaska!), and very suspenseful.

Marie was a hoot, even though I couldn’t bear her even for a minute, but I loved how she explained how Tim ended up as her partner. I have to agree with whoever above said - I think they’re both in love with each other. But she is hard to stomach.

Travis, Travis, Travis…at the start of the race I really liked both he, and Nicole. At the start of the race I would have been ok with them winning. But the last few episodes had me infuriated with how he berated her, and I think his attitude is what did them in. She couldn’t make him happy, he let her know, and she just shut down. I feel badly that their 5 kids will have to see daddy making an arse of himself, and treating their mother so poorly.

The Afghanimals were high spirited, and in a way I think that rubbed some viewers the wrong way. Overall they were excellent players, and I was shocked at their not making it to the final 3.

In the end I was happy that Amy and Jason won, even though I wasn’t rooting for them at the start. Their attitude(s) grew on me.

I love this show!

I have to keep reminding myself not to draw too many conclusions about the people on reality shows. The producers and editors show us want they want us to see and omit what they don’t want us to see. They like good guys and bad guys and falls from grace, things that help ratings. Maybe Marie mellowed near the end or maybe it was the editing but she didn’t bother me as much at the end. Didn’t seem that Travis had a single good thing to say about his wife near the end, but then maybe those things wound up on the cutting room floor.

Very happy with the winners.
