On Wednesday night at 9:30 pm EST, the new AR season starts off with a race through the mud on the road to Tokyo. But that ain’t all folks. Didn’t we suggest on here last season why can’t two complete strangers couple up and run the race?
So 10 total strangers will be meeting at the starting line to go on a blind date and it’s dutch treat! Meanwhile, six dating couples hope to take advantage of the situation and send the newbies back home to America one blind date couple at a time.
Looking back at my own track record on blind dates, I’m confident the blind daters get weeded down to only one or two left by the time we start remembering their names. One more new twist - One lucky couple gets a Date Night every week. Will it be a night to remember or will it be a one and done horror show?
I didn’t like the blind date idea at first. But then I watched the intro videos of the couples online and got totally sucked in. I think it could be interesting! So 6 couples know each other, 5 couples will be blind date.
I love Amazing Race, I’ve watched it from the beginning.
I did enjoy reading the snarky comments people used to make on Television Without Pity forums; very sad when those forums closed.
The only time two strangers had to work together was two seasons ago. Mark from Team Kentucky was paired with Mallory who had replaced Mark’s partner due to illness. They lasted only two episodes and once they started bickering they never stopped.
I don’t know how the producers decided on who to pair up for this season. Since the theme is dating can we expect they tried to use some matchmaking skills and hope they don’t kill each other?
Maybe a few pairs will experience love at first flight?
I think it will be interesting to see how the ‘matched’ teams will do compared to those who already knew each other. I think that Mallory and Mark were a terribly mismatched team to begin with, and wasn’t surprised to see the difficulties they had.
I was telling my DH that I think the reason that the blind date couples did so well is they are all young and fit. You have to be fit when you are single…or at least more likely than a couple that has been together on the couch for a while.
I loved the episode, and wasn’t expecting to! I was really impressed that 3 (or was it 4) of the blind dates made it to the finish line before those in a relationship. Initially I was rooting for the RN & Dr, but I think she’s more into him, then he is to her, but as the episode went on, I REALLY found myself cheering for the lawyers. There may be something sweet brewing there. AND I love the 90 minute episode format…I hope that’s a trend this season.
I think the sake challenge was far easier than the precision of the synch “dance” - IF you are able to associate visuals with sound. I’m pretty good at stuff like that -
I am so happy AR is back! I agree with ^ that the Dr isn’t as into the RN and she is into him. I was hesitant about the “dating” format, but then found myself rooting for love connections.
