Loved that the final words for the episode were Hayley saying “You’re gonna listen, right?”
I am not a fan of the basically second chance that they give the team that arrived last to the mat only to eliminate a team some time during the next leg. I hope this is the last season of that. I can’t believe I am rooting for Hayley and Blair! As annoying as Haykey is, in a weird way I think she is good for Blair.
Hayley is an interesting character. Yes, she has an annoying voice, and she doesn’t know when to quit, but she’s pretty bright, and has been right more than she’s been wrong. She gets a lot of hate online, but she’s not been offensive, and she seems to be taking a lot of joy in the race experience. They make a good pair, he has needed her kick in the pants sometimes, and she has benefited from his Spanish skills. They definitely seem to be pals now.
Nothing against Mike and Rochelle, but I’m not a fan of the non-elimination. We saw what happened last time. I’ll take them over Laura and Tyler though, just don’t think they’re as cute as they think they are.
I must have missed the “not offensive” part - are you saying she didn’t lash out on social media? I just think her “character” has been edited to be a harpie-type. Blair is a wuss - not verbally trading barbs with her. Granted this is all in the editing - she’s probably not as awful in real life. Or I hope so.
I think this episode showed that being very physically fit is one of the many pre-reqs for Amazing Race success (along with being able to drive a stickshift and swim, not fearing heights, etc., etc.). Mike and Rochelle seemed to have been impeded in the last two tasks by hauling around extra weight and being out of breath frequently. I don’t recall anyone as chunky as Mike ever winning, and Rochelle is got some extra pounds to lug around as well. The race is a marathon, and racers really need to be in top condition. When the captions kept showing the high temperatures during the brick making and dancing segments, I thought for sure we were going to lose someone from heat exhaustion.
I agree that the editing has sure changed for Hayley and Blair vs. Tyler and Laura, but even when she’s being pleasant, Hayley’s shrill voice makes me want to stab my ears with an ice pick. Mamas, teach your daughters to lower their voices–it’s very hard for a grown woman to be taken seriously in the adult world when she sounds like a 5 year old at the playground!
I really, really hate this 4 teams to the final thing. And yes, I remember how it worked last season (rolling eyes!) Finale should mean finale - not “welllllll…we WILL kick one of you off during it!”. Chances are they will all get on the same flight and be tied at the start of the race. So, no penalty or anything for the truck drivers.
I have been proud and sort of rooted for the truck drivers (though actually preferring some other couples better) but to be honest, for the most part, they have been in the back of the pack for much of the race - so it’s a little hard to see them being as deserving as some others to be in the finale - to get the opportunity because of a show “twist” of 4 competing again.
amandakayak, I was only addressing what we’ve been shown of Hayley on the show. I haven’t seen responses from her on social media. If I were advising her I would tell her to stay off the internet for six months. On the show, she’s been annoying but not racist, ignorant, etc.
I’ve finally caught up! What I found interesting was that only Mike & Rochelle were told the race continues. I’m sure that was editing, or maybe I missed Phil telling the others that. I was sorry to see the hairdressers go, they were really growing on me. I’m rooting for Mike and Rochelle, because I really think the win would absolutely change their lives. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed this season, more than I thought I would.
I assume they will all be caught up together at next airport.
Well, can’t say I’m happy with the ending but Hayley haters will really enjoy it. I liked this season and thought the blind date thing exceeded expectations.
Who did you want to win? I’m happy!
Just finished watching the Race finale. I have a hard time believing that fiasco with Rochelle and her man actually happened. That kind of luck has to be staged.
youdontsay, I was rooting for Blair and Hayley. The other racers really disliked them lately. I wouldn’t have minded Jelani and Jenny. It was a fair ending so no complaints, Hayley blew it.
Jelani and Jenny might have won if they told their waiting cabdriver not to help any other teams or cabdrivers while they were doing the challenge.
They should scrap the final four to the finish. The 4th place team is not penalized with a Speed Bump. Then they get dumped while all the other teams are racing frantically to the finish. Was this change made because a 4th place team barely got to the finish line before the winners did a few races ago?
Blind dates came in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. Interesting options for future AR seasons. Perhaps total strangers and no love interest?
Thank goodness Hayley made the mistake instead of Blair, he would have never heard the end of it. I don’t like a team being eliminated along the way, I hope they go back to 3 teams. I liked the challenges and liked that it was close at the end.
I wish they would go back to a two hour finale with one team being eliminated at the end of the first hour I just like the finale to be longer! I’m pleased that Laura and Tyler won. They raced well, had fun and seemed to enjoy the experience. I really wouldn’t have minded any of teams winning. My guess is that Blair and Hayley may be invited back the next time they do an all-star season.
I’d love to see Blair run with someone else. He originally applied with his Dad.
Interesting interview with Laura and Tyler. They talk about why they didn’t want Hayley / Blair to win and it makes a lot of sense: http://www.ew.com/article/2015/05/15/amazing-race-winners-are-less-about-romance-and-more-about-respect-and-being
Thanks Indiana91.
Didn’t Hayley and Blair briefly consider finding and following one of the other teams to the flags? I wonder if that would have worked rather than returning back to the high-rise, go up in the elevator, get dressed, and search again, and then get back in the cab. I’ll replay that portion of the race over the weekend.
I, too, thought the finale was rushed. It just wasn’t exciting for me for some reason.
@TonyK also at one point Blair suggested they just follow the train tracks. That might have worked as well.
