@youdon’tsay I’m routing for the ultimate guys so far, too!
So, so many self-absorbed jerks–cannot tell them apart. Especially dislike the spaz who is racing with his mother–annoying.
I am hoping that as things sort out, at least one team becomes likeable.
There were several teams I liked, but many I didnt.
Why couldn’t they count to 13 for the tile pieces? They were told there were 13. Count. It looked like one of the easiest challenges I’ve ever seen.
I think the hard part was that they get 13 but don’t realize they have to be 13 of the same color. Boy, that bull thing was much more difficult than the mariachi thing.
Having hard time distinguishing the teams. The frisbee guys seem fun, I also like the magic couple.
They should make them color coded or something. My 14yr old was like “everyone knows Tyler Oakley”…really? I liked the magic video guy I guess but really I must be getting old, I’d rather have teams I can relate to and I can’t relate to people who structure life aspiring for a viral video or online hits.
Still too many teams at this point for me to distinguish one team from another.
Are they trying to lose their older audience? I agree that it was a confusing start.
This episode did not hold my attention at all. Not sure I will make it through the entire season.
Most disappointing start to a season I can remember. Didn’t like (what was the purpose?) that they started them all from home - clearly it was not a “surprise” - they were dressed and ready to go! Also agree, a mismash of pairs - nothing very distinguishable for me - often I don’t know names, but pairing names - the athletes, the scientists, the farmers - that kind of thing.
I also felt the show was overall choppy and hard to follow. Did not draw me in! Maybe it’s because I was watching it late at night when I was tired. Don’t know.
Of course, I’ll keep watching, but already wishing for different pairings. No one seems hugely likeable. So far my “favorite” pair if I have to name one is the pair from Los Angeles who came in second.
My D1 who is exposed to a lot of social media personally and through her job knew a few of the pairs off the bat.
I never really know who’s who until we’re down to 7 or 8 teams, but this season having a boatload of twenty-somethings (except for the one mom and one dad) is making it lots harder to connect with any of these folks. And it’s bad enough when a couple of teams are obviously on the show to get publicity for some venture or another, but when all of them are on for that reason—blech. It seems Amazing Race really doesn’t get its audience, because I haven’t seen one reaction anywhere that was in favor of this season’s theme. As I said in an earlier post, I think one of the attractions of the show is fantasizing that we could be competing and wondering how we’d fare as we find a team we can identify with. That’s not going to happen this season.
I had heard of Tyler Oakley, but darned if I know how or why. Seems I have a lot of random internet stuff rattling around in this rapidly aging brain.
It physically hurt to watch this episode. I agree with the sentiment “So, so many self-absorbed jerks” - I also miss “regular” folks, like me, competing. It really does make a difference. I’ll keep watching because I love the show, but I really hope this isn’t a taste of things to come.
Liked this episode much better than last week. Still pretty unknowledgeable about some of the teams, but starting to develop a couple favorites. First and second place teams have lots of good positive energy!
OMG, I can’t believe that team lost because they didn’t take a cab to the last challenge! The purple guy team was SO lucky. I actually like them but they are going to have to bump up their energy a bit to get moving!
Really liking the team that won. Cute, happy guys.
The ultimate community is watching TAR and commenting. I find it funny, in part because they don’t understand the show.

I missed tonight. What happened?
We are travelling and I missed it, too. Darn.
I found an online recap. The brothers are gone, and the frisbee players got first. Yea!
It was a fun episode for me as I’ve been to Cartegena and shopped in the area they were in.
Haven’t picked a team yet as I think they are all fairly boring, but am liking the cities.
I found it incredible that some random guy on a bus in Colombia recognized one of the racers from his social media presence! I guess that probably says more about me than about the guy on the bus, though. I’ve never heard of any of these racers before.
