Has anyone heard anything else? I see a few deals on there already (changing every few hours) but I’m not sure if that’s a new thing or part of the Prime stuff…
Our local paper had a couple of deals to watch for, but mentioned that every hour there will be a new deal offered. So I think it’s not going to be like Black Friday where you know in advance what’s on sale. They’ve had “deals of the day” for awhile now, but the ones on Wednesday will be bigger, better etc. according to what I’ve been reading. I don’t need much right now, but of course I will check it out.
will check out the sales for sure. Am also intrigued by the offers and pairing of companies with jet.com

Seriously, August 15 is the last day?! Ugh, I guess I won't buy anything off of Amazon for college. They should extend it to August 25 or something so us i<<<

Here is a novel idea … BUY a membership! The policies of Amazon have been the most liberal and generous with several levels of “free” membership. The drive to push the envelope and abuse those policies is puzzling.
If there was a reason to ABANDON Prime is the continuing cheapening of the offers with stunts like the recent ones. Amazon should have offered the 15th of July to only its TRUE Prime accounts. Not the trials ones, not the student ones … just the members who shell out 99 dollars.
Seriously.
Prime has been getting chintzier with their policies. Many items not being considered “add ons” with a required minimum purchase. Blowing the BS whistle. They offered free shipping and they are changing the rules. Now worth $119… Will be looking more closely at jet.com, even with a shipping charge. I currently have a 1 yr free membership.
1- Students get an additional 6 months free.
2- It’s only $49 for students.
Don’t be cheap.
We use prime instant video tons. TONS.
oops typo above. NOT worth $119. No longer qualify for student rates, unfortunately.
Looked over the “Deals” for Amazon Prime and also at Walmart.com. None looked like anything anyone in this household (or our kids) have been lusting after, so not interested. We just paid off a pretty big credit card bill, so are in economy mode for the moment anyway. IF we had seen something amazing that we needed at a great price, we MAY have considered it, but nah! Just “meh” stuff at so-so prices.
I used to think Amazon had the cheapest price (or just regular price), but after doing some comparison shopping online, I fine drugstore.com, walmart.com and other online stores are cheaper. The price difference is just a dollar here and there, it is 30-50% more. I don’t buy as much on Amazon as I used to.
Just saw in the news this morning that Walmart will be having their own Black Friday sale on the same day to compete with Amazon.
Of course, and it is something you and I have been sparring about for years! The incremental costs of the full membership are a direct result of the … people who are determined to abuse the system through attempts to “extend” the student memberships and other questionable tactics. I understand that one seeks to find the best deals but there should be limits on the “bending of the rules.”
Amazon is not a charitable organization and they have to make a profit. They can’t continue to offer free shipping on all items and, as a result, have started to rely more and more on substandard shippers like Ontrac, the Brown Clowns, and especially the abysmal last leg by the USPS. The days of most items arriving by FedEx are over. Yet, the full Amazon membership remains one of the best bargains when you combine the buying and streaming experience AND the liberal sharing (and legal) policies.
A Oldfort mentioned, Amazon will not be the cheapest for all items. After all, they act as “agent” for most of the goods and the prices are set by the marketplace. It does PAY to compare and then weigh the ease of ordering and weigh the potential cost of dealing with companies that hardly believe in customer service. Have a problem with a delivered item left on your front porch or sidewalk by the likes of Sears or others, and try to get the quick replacement or refund! Good luck with that!
As far as the big Prime day, I do not expect miracles and believe that most attractive items will be snapped early. But one only needs one good deal to make it worth checking! Again, I wish they had placed restrictions on the participants, but that was obviously NOT the objective.
Amazon Prime might not be what it was when they launched it, but few good things survive when people abuse it.
By the way, Amazon just opened in Mexico. That promises to be quite a fiesta and a blood bath for local retailers.
Amazon has a page outlining maybe 30 of the deals for tomorrow from books to electronics.
Amazon is the lumbering giant. No, they don’t dance as efficiently as before. Do I do enough streaming to make it worth it, in dollars and cents? Nah. But I like the convenience.
there are some shoes I might buy- but who knows if they’ll get an addl discount? In the meantime, other suppliers, including the brand, are offering nearly identical prices. Life in the big leagues is tough.
I got an email for a free 30day trial of Amazon Prime.

“By the way, Amazon just opened in Mexico. That promises to be quite a fiesta and a blood bath for local retailers.”
LOL, xiggy
Yeah, not going to bother. I’ve bought items from Amazon before, but they weren’t large purchases. I’m going to purchase a pricey laptop in mid-August and I don’t trust the delivery guys with shipping it to our home.
I don’t understand this. If you purchase something and it comes broken or incorrect, Amazon will fix it right away. Amazon’s customer service, in my experience, has been absolutely top notch… and I buy a LOT through Amazon (ie most of my wedding and more household stuff than I’d like to admit lol).
Last week, I ordered a set of sheets through Prime (not an Amazon brand) and after one wash they were falling apart. One quick message to Amazon and I was refunded by the next day. A few weeks before that, I had an issue where FedEx told me that my address was incorrect and then my package was lost in transit. Amazon gave me the option of a refund or for them to overnight the product to me (which I chose). (And of course, the original package showed up a few days later.) I’ve had similar shipping issues with others in the past and companies have told me to take it up with the shipping company or I’ve had to go through several rounds of calls, emails, etc to get a simple refund.
I bought a lightening deal today- cooling pad. I’ve needed one for a while and this was just the push I needed lol.
I have to be in meetings all day tomorrow so I’m leaving a list with Mr. R that says what I want at what price… below, buy, above, pass. I need to get these things anyway so I might as well get 'em on sale.
