Amazon

I usually love amazon because they ship so incredibly fast and have good service. There is a warehouse near me so I get things very quickly. Even the week before Christmas I can usually buy something with free super saver shipping and receive it 2 max 3 days later… at least, the past few years anyway.

I placed an order on the 14th with free super saver shipping and it hasn’t even left their building yet! My delivery estimate was the 24th, so it’s still within their ETA and i’m sure it will probably get here before that… but i’m just wondering if anyone else has ran into this lately? have they changed something? Is it because of all the people who have prime now getting first priority? Or are they purposely not filling the orders as quickly to try to get more people to sign up? Maybe it’s not a conspiracy at all and they are just extremely busy this year…

I could have had my mom buy this stuff with her Prime account and just paid her the money for it but I figured why bother since I usually get the stuff so quickly anyway even during the holidays. I’m almost ready to cancel my order and just go buy the stuff at the book store.

It’s just stuff for myself so it’s not like I need it for the holidays… but it shocked me that my order has been sitting there for 5 days already!

Experienced the same thing with both Amazon and Costco.com. They are inundated with orders this time of year and are taking longer to pick/pull/ship.

It just seems weird that in previous years my orders shipped the very next day and this year it’s been 5 days. I guess the fact that I ordered it on a Friday could have something to do with it.

I’ve noticed that outside of the Christmas holiday period, when I order stuff on Amazon it typically isn’t fulfilled for 3-5 days (I think closer to 5) and then shipped. I’m certain this is an artificial delay to make a distinction between ‘super saver’ and other shipping methods - i.e. encouragement to buy the faster delivery since the shipping doesn’t actually cost them any more.

However, I’ve noticed over the course of at least 3 years now, including this year, that when I order around the Christmas season, they fulfill the order as quickly as they can and ship it right away and I usually receive it quite quickly. I assume they do this to ensure they really get the orders out by Christmas since if they don’t, people may forego using them again on subsequent years.

A variable is whether they actually have the item in their warehouse, which warehouse they have it in (maybe one on the opposite cost but not the closest one), or whether it’s shipping straight from the vendor - i.e. not an Amazon warehouse item.

Anyway - I haven’t noticed any issue this season - shipping has been quick.

Did you happen to notice if the item(s) was shipping from Amazon or one of their allied businesses? Some allied businesses are faster to process and ship than others.

I would agree that if it’s not in the warehouse next to me that it will take longer to come from a different warehouse… but that would be after they put it in a box and on a truck, lol

I ordered 1 new blu ray movie and 2 books directly sold and shipped from Amazon. They very well could come from different places and arrive in 3 separate packages. But they need to leave the building before they can arrive like that. :)

and now that I look at it, the price of my blu ray is 4 dollars less now then it was on Friday. I think I’m just going to cancel this order. at this rate I can have my mom re-order it and get it sooner and pay less for the silly thing anyway.

Glad to know I’m not the only one experiencing this. I haven’t bought anything on there since the holidays last year.

Sorry, cross-posted with GladGrad. Could also be that online orders are up this year and staffing may be a little light to handle the increased traffic.

I used their contact us link and asked them if they would honor the 19.99 price that they are now advertising my item for especially since it hasn’t shipped yet and I could cancel my order and just re-order it at the lower price.

They are usually pretty good at customer service so we’ll see what they say. Last year two people bought me the same book (lack of communication) and when the one tried to return it they credited her back the money and told her to keep the book.

update - they e-mailed me back saying they will not change the price so I canceled my order. I’ll just go support the other companies and get my stuff tomorrow for a lower price.

I ordered four Christmas gifts from Amazon this year, each of them separately over a two-week period.

They all shipped on the same day.

Go figure.

I also just received an Amazon gift from my sister. It wasn’t gift-wrapped. My sister would never forget to check the “gift-wrap” box on the order form.

My son has has a Prime account, but allow his sister, father, and I to share  We all also have our own accounts, but I use the Prime when I want something to be delivered sooner. I use my own credit card and delivery address when I use my son’s account, so no need to deal with paying someone back. The only thing we have to be careful of is making sure we click the correct credit card and delivery address! Of course when I am buying gifts for the kids I have to make sure to use my own account or they will see it before it arrives ;)

I just ordered my movie online at best buy for the lower price with free expedited shipping to arrive estimated the 21st with my premier silver reward zone membership. Best buy does honor other companies pricing and if you bring your item back within x amount of time they will give you back the difference in the price.

Amazon changed shippers for their prime service for some orders a couple years ago.
[Amazon.com: Customer Discussions: Amazon Changed 2nd Day Prime Shipping Carriers - Ontrac - What do you think?](http://www.amazon.com/Amazon-Changed-Prime-Shipping-Carriers/forum/Fx1FXZJET22FVJX/Tx3XIGM42X7L5W/57?asin=B000QFOD8E)

My experience with Ontrac has been positive. Deliveries on time or even earlier.

All my problems have been with the brown guys. Delayed deliveries are the norm for them. Some two days deliveries have turned out to be four days affairs, with one day lost at the start and at the end. Their rerouting system is a pure joke. Actually, that entire company is such a joke that you’d think the pictionary champion is running it.

My only beef with Amazon is that they give business to UPS.

We do the same thing sharing our prime account, between myself, my 5 kiddos and their significant others it gets ALOT of use. Sometimes more than once a day! We have seperate credit cards and addresses and (knock on wood) have not messed it up yet.

And prime has been kept to 2 days this holiday season. We have placed orders in the afternoon and it shows up the very next morning. Fantastic.

A few days ago, I ordered three lanyards from Amazon using my prime shipping. Today I received a large box from Amazon approximately 20" x 24" x 4". I was hesitant to open since I hadn’t ordered anything but the lanyards. I wondered if it contained a gift from one of my sons that was shipped directly to our home. Anyhow, it was addressed to me so I opened. In this large box was my three lanyards and tons of packing paper. What the heck! These could have fit in a small envelope. Never had that happen before.

I had a major problem with ontrac this summer. The order was in process for about a week after which I figured out the shipper and contacted both amazon & ontrac.
They canceled the order & reshipped it, but not really in time to cancel the original order because I eventually received two orders of the same thing.

I have had great luck with Amazon this holiday season. I am a prime member, but don’t think it had anything to do with that. I am surprised they did not give you a credit when the price went down.

Hmmm…I did a supersaver shipping order, 5 books and 2 miscellaneous items all in stock, on the 10th, expecting to get it on the early side of the arrival estimate, which was yesterday (normally I receive everything in a couple/few days). I checked status on the 12th and it hadn’t shipped yet, but it looks like it shipped shortly thereafter to a usps facility one state away from here. Status now says that “departure scan” was on the 14th, but no package yet. I’ve never before had to wait this long for an Amazon delivery, and it better come by Thursday since I have to wrap everything before leaving town on Friday… (this looks more like a usps delay than Amazon)

Whenever Amazon or others like Costco ship via the USPS it takes far longer to arrive. It arrives much faster with UPS. I wish there was a way to specify which one to use (for no extra cost, of course).
