I on the other hand don’t have a bit of trouble believing a cop would be trigger-happy. We’ve seen the sad story of cops shooting first and asking questions later over and over and over and over again. Usually they get away with it because they claim they were afraid when, objectively, looking at the video, the person they killed was no threat.
The sole difference here is she didn’t get away with it. I hope the next trigger-happy cop who shoots an innocent non-threatening person doesn’t get away with it either.
I think @Nrdsb4 had the most sensible post in this thread and she lives in the city. I believe that the officers were a little on edge after the horrible shootings a year ago. It is still tragic and hard to understand, but perhaps there are things people do and ways people react that someone else can’t understand.
Two jurors have spoken to the media. They said the jury was unanimous in believing
a)that she was guilty of murder-agreed upon within 5 minutes;
b) her story that she mistook his apartment for her own (and the fact that this was a terrible mistake absolutely was a mitigating factor in the sentence they gave her);
and
c)that the recommendation of 28 years was “an eye for an eye” mentality that they didn’t believe Botham Jean would want.
There were witnesses to this latest killing, so the police can investigate. Oddly, the victim had not a single piece of identification on him, although witnesses said there was no robbery involved.
The police can investigate, but they won’t. Botham Jean’s mother has spoken out about the corruption. She wasn’t lying. Amber Guyger’s downfall was rooted in her inability to stand up against the “us vs. them” mentality in a culture of corruption.
My point was that those who kill witnesses, kill them before the trial. There is no point in doing it after if shutting them up is the motive. The Mafia and gang murders, the most notorious in this type of witness hit, are done to keep witnesses silent. This is likely not that.
I would venture to guess that the perp in this case is either a policeman or, more likely, a crazed white supremacist type who is angry that the white girl didn’t get away with killing the black man.
I think the coincidence is too much. It is revenge.
If you tend to believe any investigation is going to biased or cursory, the results of it won’t make a whit of difference to you.
The victim could have had a personal life pure as spring water or sketchy as an old gang member trying to walk away and you’ll never know a single fact more than you do tonight. 'Cause you won’t believe a thing other than what you already do.
He was a young black male in a Dragonball Z t-shirt. I’m going to venture the same guess as @Consolation. You aren’t going to catch a gang member in that attire.
That a vengeful cop or white supremacist was rubbing out a witness after judgement had been rendered?
That the city of Dallas, after successfully prosecuting a white but female police officer for shooting a black man, won’t do anything other than a cover the crime investigation of this killing?
Can’t understand how y’all got here but realize I won’t reason either of you anywhere else.
Good luck.
Let me preface this by saying I am not and never have been a criminal. No driving infractions, not even a parking ticket. In fact, I come from a high-ranking police family. It took a lot of experience to get me here.
It is a luxury of perspective to believe in police as you do but not a position closer to reality.
