Everything about this story is sickening. I hope this guy goes to jail in Zimbabwe. Or at the very least spends a fortune on legal bills.
Disgusting. Gives all Americans a bad name.

The dude is on the left!
Terrible…and not exactly a practice builder: http://www.yelp.com/biz/river-bluff-dental-bloomington
Why would anyone want to do this (barring self-defense)? I never understand it.
What a waste of human flesh.
I say throw him to the lions in a sanctuary and at least let them make use of his meat.
"This isn’t the first time Palmer has found himself in trouble with wildlife authorities. In 2008, Palmer — who lives in Eden Prairie, Minnesota — pleaded guilty to making false statements to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. Court documents say he shot a bear outside an authorized zone in Wisconsin, then tried to pass it off as being killed elsewhere.
Palmer was given probation and fined nearly $3,000."
Wow. $3k was a couple of extra root canals for this dude.
Ugh, as if it was only a horrible thing to do because that particular lion was a “local favourite.”

What the is wrong with people? Did he really need to shoot such a beautiful animal for sport, a species threatened with possible extinction in a few decades?
I’m not big on zoos, but I’d rather see Cecil’s cubs end up in nice zoo than killed by his rivals. It’s not like Cecil died at the hands of Mother Nature.
The lion was lured with a bait so he could shoot! That’s not hunting. I hope his practice suffers badly.
Only one in eight lion cubs lives to adulthood. Week before last, in South Africa, we saw three different coalitions (groups of male lions). Such gorgeous creatures. We were in an open vehicle, just feet away from them. It’s a hard existence. We saw three cute cubs with their mother. But since the pride didn’t belong to the dominant coalition in the area, most likely the cubs will be killed by the dominant males.
This dentist sounds like a horrible human being. He had to pay a woman as a result of an allegation of sexual battery, and he was previously prosecuted for an illegal bear hunt.
I read his Yelp page has been bombarded with angry reviews and Yelp had to scrub them. I hope he loses his practice.
Agree, NoVADad, but I like romani’s suggestion even better.
Ugh. Just saw this story on the news. Despicable person.
I have no words for this miserable excuse for a human being.
Last year my husband and I went on (camera) safari in Botswana (which does not allow any hunting). On our flight to Johannesburg was a big group of hunters from the Dallas Safari Club loaded down with huge gun cases. I glared at them the entire time we were in the luggage area. Somehow I doubt they cared but I felt a wee bit better. (I’d have liked to have opened those gun cases and shot them.)
I don’t believe for a minute that Palmer didn’t know the animal he shot was from the protected park nearby. In fact, I would bet this was the “act first and apologize later” strategy of breaking the law and then faking the oops-my-apologies later.
They saw his research collar, which they tried to destroy, and still decapitated him. That’s how “sorry” Palmer is — he still took the head for his collection.
If Zimbabwe has grounds to prosecute, I hope they do. At the very least they should not let Palmer's disgusting "trophy" leave the country.
If he were my dentist, I don’t think I could ever go back to him. I don’t think I could ever speak to him again.
He shot it with a bow and arrow. You usually have to aim that.
Shooting a collared animal should be a serious offense.
And if the guides led him there, well, I hope they get fried too.
Let’s give PALMER to Isis.
I bet they would have no qualms in how they would deals with him. Here’s an American no one wants.
I am not a fan of trophy hunting, wish it were illegal to cut off animals’ heads and display them. It is so barbaric. Why is this type of hunting even allowed? In this case-- luring an animal out of a protected park and butchering it! --I wish Palmer would get jail time, but I don’t suppose he will.
He also killed a white rhino years ago. How is that legal anywhere?
The spotlight is on him now. I bet he feels more than a bit hunted!
