Thought I’d start a new thread just for AI - the other thread gets confusing when you are not watching the other shows…

So I had done my homework and read ahead and knew we were in for several format changes this year - many more to come!!

I personally attached to the judges pretty quickly. Not always the biggest JLO fan, so kind of enjoyed Harry putting her in her place a couple times. :)

I have only watched the Wednesday show so far.

Some favs:
The guy who lives with Grandpa
The guy with the dreadlocks, glasses and ADHD
The girl who sang Maroon 5 with the deep voice
The mini Anoop! (The one who loved Harry and got “cradled” by him!)

I’m watching. I had mostly stopped watching the past few seasons because the judges had become boring and irritating. I’m also not the biggest JLo fan, but she seems better when framed by Keith and Harry. I’ve always liked Keith, and Harry is a very welcome addition. He’s obviously intelligent, quick, knowledgeable, and most importantly for me, witty.

Ryan’s physicality this season (jumping over chairs, lifting contestants, etc.) is confusing to me. A midlife crisis?

It broke my heart when they only took one of the two twins yesterday. I thought they were equally good and deserved to go to Hollywood together. The one that didn’t go was certainly better than others who were selected.

There are way too many 15 year olds trying out this season. Don’t get me wrong, I really root for the young ones and like to see them perform, but they just seem painfully young.

They will be in Detroit next week, and there are tons of amazing musicians around here. I’m looking forward to seeing who they find.

American Idol is my guilty pleasure! I’m terrible with names but I liked the western-looking singer songwriter dude with his guitar towards the end of the SanFran auditions show. He’s one of those people who seems not to need AI except for publicity, but then Phil Phillips was like that too.

Later in the season they are going to have three different age groups compete against each other for the top 12 or 16 (I forget) so that there is better age distribution among the finalists - and so there won’t be 5 15 or 16 year olds in the top!!

Love the addition of harry. Love Keith and I think Jlo will find her bookends out shine her! Wish they would show a few more train wrecks. So far it’s much better than last season!!

I feel like they concentrated far more on the positives this year than the really bad ones. Unless maybe I’m just getting better at forwarding through them on my dvr :)

Was surprised how many singers had guitar accompaniment. Unfortunately, for me, the guitar playing surpassed their vocal ability-- in most instances.

It was nice to hear so many original songs and non-cover selections.

I was very disappointed with the Boston auditions and also thought there would be more talent performing in Austin then was shown.

I was glad they cut back on the number of talentless auditions.

I think the judges are a little boring. I am missing the edginess of a Nikki Minaj or a Simon Cowell.

Speaking of Harry… did anyone notice the orange tint to his face during the Austin and/or S.F. auditions? Kind of reminded me of the time I used that spray tan stuff.

Keith is…how shall I say…too feminine for my taste.

Harry Connick, Jr., on the other hand, is my kind of guy…and he knows music. There are a lot of talented singers who cannot even read music, much less are they knowledgeable about music theory and the mechanics of music. Harry Connick, Jr. is the “Ben Folds” of the AI judge panel, but obviously, much more attractive (Sorry, Ben, who I actually adore).

Just finished the second night. Delighted with the panel of judges. It’s too early for me to try to predict who my favorites are likely to be, but it has been good to hear a number of unique male voices.

How is Keith “feminine”??? Gotta ask that one!

I just finished last night too - no one completely stood out for me but a fun show - both Keith and Harry are a hoot! Harry much more obvious than Keith but Keith had a few zingers! Hard for Jennifer to say no sometimes to the on the border contestants.
