busdriver11, Your profile pic of your dogs puts a big smile on my face every time you post!

Why thank you jshain. They are very sweet, but so rotten! Leave the pantry door open for a minute, and they’re ripping open the chips. We don’t call the white and red one the honey badger for nothing!

Any updates? I’m missing it because I’m working all night.

I thought it was the best night overall so far. They each sang their original audition song and then there were four duets that were not judged. Everybody stepped up their game. I still think CJ should be the next to go home, but not sure about the others in the bottom 3.

I thought it was interesting that Ryan stated that the duets were not being judged but, as a voter, they certainly are not going to be ignored! I thought Alex and Jena, two frontrunners, laid a giant egg in their duet together. They should have had Jena at the piano and Alex on his guitar or one of 20 other instruments that he can play. As it was, zero chemistry between them and they were out of sync vocally. On the other hand, Caleb and Jessica were awesome! A perfect vocal pairing, song choice, and connection. Jessica really came to life and she is my favorite female once again.

I’m thinking CJ and Malaya in bottom 3 and not sure who the 3rd person will be-- maybe Sam.

Glad I recorded it. Sounds like a great show.

Busdriver11, recorded is how I watch 99% of TV. I’m not a big fan of commercials, and boy oh boy does Ai have a lot of them :((

I’m with you there, Bob. I record it and start watching at least 30, min in. I hate commercials.

Best night of the season. May have been the best night in the last couple of seasons, across the board. Not a bad solo performance. ( fast forwarded through all the duets except Jessica and Caleb). It was inspired to have them sing their audition songs.

My H predicted that the judges would use their save tonight and the reviewer at USA Today agreed <a href=“'American Idol' Top 8: Season 13 gets its groove back”>http://www.usatoday.com/story/idolchatter/2014/04/02/american-idol-top-eight-return-to-their-audition-songs/7231235/

As talented a performer Caleb is and he’s terrific. Sam might have the more viable career. Such a great voice. I love Caleb but just don’t see that he will be more than a broadway stunt performer. Not that he can’t make a career of that. But I see especially Sam, maybe Jena or Alex having a bigger musical career. Alex because he seems to be a talented song writer.

After tonight I am glad we stuck with AI.

Wow, so interesting - I thought it was an overall not so good night!!!

Best of the night for me WAS Jena and Alex - I loved their harmony - though agree that sitting like they were was awkward. I also loved Alex’s solo original. I liked Sam’s performance though I felt like the band was off beat or something.

I thought the judging was awful - someone gave them all a happy pill and they just liked everything without much critisism - even when criticism was due. CJ needs to go. I pray the judges don’t use up a save on him. He’s a nice guy and all, but this is not the “nice guy” competition.

I am SOOOO over the judges and their pimping of Malaya - what will that girl do with a career? A 16 year old singing 40 year old ballads??! She has a nice voice (some of the time) but she I don’t know how it translates into a pop music career.

Finally, how awkward that they didn’t judge a couple of them right away. Sam and…Jena??? They went to commercial and then got to it - and the judges seemed distracted at that point and didn’t seem to really contribute much. Also, why did they all of a sudden bring back the “during the show” voting results??? We haven’t seen that for a few weeks have we??? Trying to influence voters AI??? I just thought the whole flow of the show was off last night. I hate when they get rushed at the last couple of contestants and don’t give a proper review. Ugh.

I agree with all abasket had to say except I’m more positive about Malaya, who has improved a lot over the season. Liked the idea of doing audition songs; most of the rest was annoying.

I will be surprised if the judges use their save tonight, unless Sam is the lowest vote-getter (and he won’t be). But there’s one thing we can ALL agree on-- LLo will be all weepy and want to save the one on the chopping block, just like she has each and every week since the voting rounds began!

Jshain lol! So true!

Can we start a petition that JLo’s judging time be added to Harry’s? I frequently learn something from Harry, and nothing from JLo (other than that she seems to be a nice person). Keith is okay, but maybe the producers could remind him that he’s a judge and that it’s okay to judge a bit more.

The show started late here (Texas) due to the Ft Hood shooting incident. I think they also broke in once. Not sure if we missed a singer or not since I wasn’t watching closely.

Loved Alex’s solo. I forgot that he performed an original song at his first audition. It was great.

Can someone update me on what’s happening. AI is being pre-empted by a weather report in my area.

Sam sang for the save - they saved him!! Bottom three - Sam, Malaya, CJ. Who is still voting for CJ? He’s been awful the past few weeks?!

I’m so glad he was saved!

Thanks. I am not surprised by the bottom three or the save. Since they used the save, will two people go home next week?
