American Idol 2014 Thread !

I don’t think so. I think they have the week built in.

It seemed to me that the judges decided to save Sam before he even hit the first note in his save me song. I was a little surprised he didn’t take Harry’s advice from the night before and make eye contact with one of his many female admirers. Having said that, I respect the fact that he didn’t force something that apparently doesn’t come naturally to him.

I’m starting to understand… JLo is ONLY the bearer of good news, never bad news, especially when her fellow judges don’t go her way on a save. When the latter happened during all those previous weeks, she “quietly” sulks.

I thought the confetti was a little over-the-top. They should save that for the winner, not for the recipient of the seasons one and only save.

So I finally watched it all today. Don’t know why Sam was in the bottom three at all, that was ridiculous. I’m sure they decided to save him ahead of the show. Agree that the confetti was a little silly, come on!

The confetti was absurd, especially since the save is just delaying Sam’s inevitable departure by a week or two. His discomfort on stage makes the viewer uncomfortable, and that’s not a recipe for success.

I was SOOO hoping that during that save sing that Sam would just go grab a girl in the audience and sing RIGHT IN HER FACE!!! Show those judges! I think the judges have harped on that enough - it’s uncomfortable for him right now - he’s young and shy - the judges need to let it go!

Glad they saved Sam but given he has been in the bottom at least 3 times now, you could argue that they shouldn’t have used it. The confetti I’m sure was just one of AI’s “new” twists to make things young, fun and exciting. Woohoo. :)

Yes, I told my daughter as we were watching - “if they save Sam, JLo will be the one to do it - she only delivers good news!”

Sam is genuinely shy. And he’s not quite 18. The family is very proud of how well he’s done. It isn’t easy to overcome shyness when you’re suddenly on a big TV set in front of cameras knowing there’s a huge audience.

Lergnom, is Sam enjoying this? One would think that someone that shy would not like performing in front of a nationwide audience. I really like his voice and hope he can start to convey more comfort on stage. I have heard that many professional actors and performers are actually very shy offstage, but they are able to overcome it when performing.

Also a big difference between singing in front of a few dozen people at an intimate venue and a screaming AI crowd + a few million viewers at home! Being better at one over another need not be “better” - its just preference and I’ll bet he prefers “intimate”. Either spot though, his voice is amazing and he will be a dream to work with in the recording studio cause he is good “as is”!!! (also I do hear he has been one of the top selling Idols on iTunes!!!

He’s having a great time. The group gets along. They have a lot of work to do each week (and as you may have noticed last week they shot a Ford ad). He and at least 1 other get tutoring for high school. They can’t share much. All these shows take legal control of your Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

In the background as I type are 5 young girls in costume Irish step dancing as the Dropkick Murphys play Shipping Up to Boston. It’s Opening Day at Fenway. And having been there in April, you couldn’t pay me to go.

BTW, if anyone thinks about the original Patriots Day events of 1775 - April 19th, remember - it was clear with a high in the mid-40’s and a chill wind. When you see movies, there should be no leaves on the trees, something they never get right.

Today is cloudier with rain coming. And this being Boston, they have Tommy Menino - 20+ years as mayor and now he has cancer- in a golf cart driven by Mark Recchi for the Bruins 2010 Stanley Cup, Leon Powe carrying the Celtics 2008 trophy, Pedro Martinez, Jason Varitek and Mike Lowell carrying the 2004, 2007 and 2013 World Series trophies and Troy Brown, Ty Law and Tedy Bruschi carrying the Patriots Super Bowl 2001, 2004 and 2005 trophies. Not quite the same as fighting the Regulars at North Bridge but overall a better thing.

I thought tonight was alright. Sam and Caleb did awesome, Dexter and Alex did very good, the rest of them…meh. I wish they’d lay off Sam about the performance issues, he’s getting better every time, and you can’t ask for more than that. David Cook was a great mentor, and I’m sick of the camera always going to JLo instead of the performers during the performances. I don’t care if she’s beautiful and into it, I want to see the performance. Jeez!

Bus, do you have a bias toward the boys?

My husband always asks me that about Idol, jshain, funny! But I have had some female singers that I really rooted for on Idol. In this case, I don’t really care for the female singers that are left, though I think I give them credit when they do well. Jena can be amazing, but she seems kind of inconsistent and I can’t quite put my finger on why she isn’t always great. Didn’t think she was great this time. It seems to go back and forth. I don’t like Jessica at all, especially after she sang “Pumped up Kicks”, combining my dislike of the song with her Stevie Nicks voice (can’t stand that voice). So it will be hard for her to ever impress me. Malaya is still so annoying to me, though when she sings well, I can overlook the overly exuberant personality.

So…to answer your question, I am somewhat biased, I suppose. But I’m not crazy about the few women left, so they’d have to wow me. There have been many female idol performers that have.

David Cook is my favorite Idol EVER. Great guy, great mentor - and he is AWESOME in concert!

I would put like 5 of them in the bottom three - thought the night overall was BAD. CJ, Malaya, Jessica - all were awful to me. FF through Dexter. Sam did a great job with a song I normally hate. JLo needs to stop coddling Malaya and CJ. Alex put an interesting spin on Every Breath.

Who is dressing Jessica?! First of all that striped blouse was blending into the huge background of her name - and I think my 95 year old aunt wore the same blouse a few years ago! And the outfit with CJ? Yikes.

^^I think one of the worst outfits was Alex’s last week, with the purple shirt, hat and the scarf. REALLY awful! Who is dressing these kids?

Show hasn’t started yet out West…

I ONLY like Jena when she’s behind the piano. There’s something appealing to me about Jessica-- both visually and vocally. I think Caleb wins it, which will be the first time a rocker has won Idol.

I thought the judges’ antics were out of control and very distracting tonight. And I’ve been wondering who is dressing JLo. I haven’t liked anything she has worn lately.

I like Jessica’s voice and think she is the most consistent of all of them, but I don’t really like HER. I can’t put my finger on the reason, but I’ve not liked her much from the beginning. I still think Sam has a beautiful voice and I love to listen to him. He is loosening up a little, but I thought he looked terribly uncomfortable in that pit full of girls!

Caleb lost a few points when he said he wanted to make “old ladies” cry. I’m sure his idea of old is 35. LOL

Totally agree… especially Harry. Starting with the kicks over at Keith’s chair, to the girl on his shoulders, to his repeated comments of “I’m going in” (to the audience) before each duet. There’s something kind of creepy about the back of an old guy’s head in a young woman’s crotch!

Yea, I thought the judges were distracting tonight.

The only thing I can say about the stylist on the show this year is that they are not tarting up the young girls. Some years I felt (the biggest example was the very young girl in Phillip Phillips year) that they dressed very young girls in outfits way older and more provocative than I felt warranted. Idk, I just feel the girls are dressed more modestly this year.

I felt the arrangements last night were “David Cooked”. Sometimes it worked, sometimes not. I think everyone left has a good voice (exception CJ) but other than Caleb not great performers. And honestly, I’m getting tired of the whole Caleb “experience”.

I thought the girl on Harry’s shoulders looked a lot like him. I wonder if that was his daughter? Still pretty creepy.

I too wondered if it was his daughter. I kept waiting for them to announce that so that I’d feel better about the whole thing!!
