American Idol 2014 Thread !

That’s awesome, Sam is so good. I hope he goes really far, so talented. He’s going to get hundreds of thousands of votes just for his adoring Grandpa, what a great guy.

Anybody says anything negative about Sam on this thread (not that they could), they’re gonna get their butts kicked!

Sam. Is. Awesome. I really hope he wins!

Lergmom, Sam is going to be a hit - if he can keep putting out musically, I think he will do well. How fun it will be for you to watch him!

Re: Savion - I believe he was not given a spot due to the high profile case that has developed around his brothers death. It’s a terrible story and I’m thinking AI had the foresight to realize the two would not work well together this year… I’ll find the link to the story.

Link to Savions brothers story - very scary and sad.

Thoughts on Casey McQuillen?

Sam’s grandpa Roy is a great guy.

Sam is supposed to be going to Berklee next year.

I think he’s going to have to put his Berklee plans on hold.

Wow, ended up really disappointed tonight. Hated some of their choices! I think the judges did too! Best if the night: Majesty, Kristin ( the nurse) and MK. At lead they were genuine, mature and not forced. Most everyone else was a flop to me. Also a flop, Ben over Nico. That makes at least 4 country guys I think - ugh. I wouldn’t want 4 gospel singers or 4 rockers either!

Harry did a great job tonight. LOVE how he challenged the one girl who just turned 18 on her performance and the meaning of the song.

Felt bad that some people never got to sing.

I don’t understand, other than to create drama, what the point was of having five contestants not even get the chance to sing. Why not just choose ten last week? My favorite performance was MK’s. Her voice gives me chills.

I also like that Harry was the one with guts enough to call out the girl who sang Roar (don’t know the names yet) for being so off key. She was just terrible, but only Harry didn’t dance around the fact. I think Keith has offered more substantive comments this season–I guess the warring divas just exhausted him last year. (I do wish he’d ditch that ridiculous haircut, though. He makes him look desperate to hang onto his youth, and it’s not attractive. He could take a lesson from Harry, who is aging delightfully well.) As for J Lo, she’s just decoration. My mind wanders as soon as she starts to blather.

I was impressed with Chris Daughtry’s mentoring–he was substantive and lucid. I wish they’d show more of the mentors’ work.Their insights add a lot to the proceedings.

My favorite moment tonight was the seeing the mother of one of the girls bawling in serious ugly-cry mode throughout her daughter’s entire performance. Pretty sure I would be that mother.

The new format–leaving five contestants sitting in Loserville at the end for all to see–is cruel. They spend days prepping to perform and then just have to slink away home, crestfallen. I hope at least they all went out drinking together tonight–with Nico!

Agree with all comments above from abasket, alwaysamom, and MommaJ! I thought Randy was a complete waste of time. They should have had Jimmy Iovine instead, but maybe they are saving him for the more critical weeks ahead.

I won’t be remembering any of the performances, with the possible exception of MK. The guys certainly don’t have a tough act to follow on Wednesday night, imo. I would love to have heard the other 5 girls perform. I have to believe that Austin from Salt Lake City will be a wild card.

Will definitely miss Jimmy! Do think Chris and Adam are good mentors though.

Not having those 5 girls sing was as cruel as the two seperate buses, one to Hollywood, one to the airport.

Anyone want to take a crack at guessing which 5 make it through on Thursday?? It’s a tough guess right now because we don’t really know who’s “popular”.

Majesty
MK
Jena
Jessica
Bria
(not based on who I’d want, but who I’m guessing will win votes)

My top 2 are Majesty and MK - I think that perhaps if either didn’t make top 5 they would be good candidates for a judges wildcard.

Also STILL upset about Nico getting left in the dust again! The judges always talk about how it takes more than a good voice - the “it” factor - Nico has that. Ben, not so much IMO. Nico has the potential to be a mini Bruno Mars.

I think I watched this with the volume down too low, and fast forwarded through too much. Cuz from what I heard, nobody sounded that great, not Majesty or MK. I don’t think Jena (don’t call me Jenna) sounded too good, nor did MK. In fact, I doubt MK is going to make it very far, she has way too big a chip on her shoulder. People who might normally vote for her, in my opinion, are going to be turned off when she starts talking about “haters”. I don’t care who you are, that’s a huge turnoff in my book. A few others sounded just awful!

Loved Harry’s lecture to the 18 year old, “Is this really what you want to be singing about?”

Ohhh no! I forgot to watch. I like JLo, but she bugs me that she refers to them all as “baby” (is that it? no I can’t think of it maybe 'sweetie"?). I know she’s trying to be friendly, but it’s annoying.

I have to agree that there wasn’t yet one obvious star. I think nerves and ambition clashed too much tonight. I want each singer to show us their real selves, not what they think we want to hear or what they think will get them to the next round.

Just watched the show I recorded last night. I DO NOT GET why the judges keep advancing Marialle (sang Roar). She sings consistently off pitch (very flat) every single time. I get that she is visually quite appealing, but that performance was just awful, and it’s sad that a more deserving talent was left sitting on the bench instead. I know Harry mentioned the pitch problems, but imo not forcefully enough.

When Sam performed, they cut to a shot of his dad sitting next to his grandma. I only watched the first 4 singers and thought Sam was the only one who kept pitch and didn’t shout or caterwaul. He had some minor issues at the end of phrases, but it’s hard to keep your breath when you’re singing in front of a big crowd on national TV.

So vote for Sam!

Sam and Alex have been my favorites so far.

Sam did great tonight. Unanimous praise from the judges. At one point, Harry was talking and they had Sam on the screen juxtaposed next to him. They looked like they could be related.

Don’t know their names yet. Did the blonde alabama boy make it? The one with the very young kids.
