I thought Tyanna sounded great and performed okay. She’s in the top-2 for the girls.
Loren performed great but sounded terrible. Bottom of the pack.
Maddie was mediocre. A total surprise for me to be in the girl’s top-8.
Joey is too theatrical for AI. Middle of the pack.
Sarina-Joi was just plain boring tonight. Middle of the pack.
Adanna-- good song choice, shaky vocals. Bottom of the pack.
Jax has grown on me. She’s stylistic and unique. I liked her rendition of the song better than the judges did. She’s in the girl’s top-2.
Alexis-- thought I was watching a karaoke performance. Bottom bottom of the pack.
Thank god Shi did not make it!
Judges said almost every girl had pitch or intonation problems, and they were right!
There are ONLY 2 girls deserving of the top-8, imo: Tyanna and Jax. On the guys side, only 3 (Clark, Qaasim, and Quentin). Am I overlooking anyone? Slim pickings…
No frontrunner among the girls. Jax is probably the best entertainer. Tyanna COULD be the best singer but she needs a makeover, a new wardrobe, and songs that do not sound like Glee. The last two songs could have been in Antoinette repertoire. And that is not a compliment. But there is hope. A couple were truly mediocre and the rest so-so.
Bad news on the Wildcard front. Here are the “rules” that are being leaked out. No identifying spoilers, but spoilers on how Wildcard will work - scroll past if you are not interested!!:
We revealed last night that next Wednesday’s American Idol would be a combination Top 12 reveal and Wildcard show. Also, that one more contestant would be eliminated on Thursday. We didn’t have the details at the time, but now TVLine has more information on what you can expect next week.
Unfortunately, it’s not as exciting as we thought it would be. The judges will choose two wildcards, but only from the contestants outside of the voter-chosen Top 10.
On Wednesday, March 11, Ryan Seacrest will reveal the five guys and five girls who advanced from this week’s Top 16 performances based on the public vote. The judges will name TWO wildcards. Unfortunately, it looks like the contestants who were eliminated prior will not be eligible. That sucks.
The Top 12 will reprise their audition songs (TV Line notes that Caleb Johnson chose a second audition song that wasn’t aired. So that’s possible).
On Thursday, March 12, ONE contestant will be eliminated. The remaining 11 contestants will perform again.
The following Thursday, March 19 (No Idol on Wednesday March 18. It’s a two hour Empire season finale instead) ONE more elimination and the Top 10 will perform. It’s a two hour show.
Beginning Wednesday, March 25, Idol settles into a once a week, 2 hour format that combines performances and results.
What TV Line DIDN’T mention, is that Wednesday’s show will be taped on Tuesday morning in Hollywood. Unless the producers decide to go live at the last minute or something, this is happening. Emails went out to folks on the On Camera Audiences list. We know somebody who will be there. We’ll keep you posted!
Ok, back to my comments - so ^^this means that the wildcards will only be chosen from the group of 6 who are eliminated when we go from 16 to 10 next week. So no Riley, Katherine, Savion, etc. to have opportunity. Sad.
I personally know Katherine…who was voted off last night. Hope she gets the wild card. The show really did not expose her talent. She is also a gifted song writer. FYI- she was a classmate/friends with “the twins”
Twinmom, it would appear that Katherine will not be able to be chosen for wildcard - only those not chosen to be top 10 from the top 16??? See info above.
Oh that is too bad. She is so talented and so sweet. She gave up a lot for her music career. She left school in 10th grade so she can concentrate on gigs. I hope this is just the opening of another door.
Yes and because I’m so education driven ( as All of us are on here) I was silently disapproving. She was an excellent student and I am sure she would have graduated in the top ten. I was silently hoping that I would silently eat my thoughts. /
This new format might prompt someone to write a “American Idol for Dummies!” This show moves ever so slowly to the inevitable conclusion that there are only a handful of good performers.
I agree with the top 12. Still love Clark. Still think Daniel is way out of his league. Jax is growing on me. Did I hear them say there is a 2-hour show tomorrow night? I thought many times the crowd noise was too loud and overpowered Ryan. Or maybe it’s my ears…
As hard as a 2 hour show is to sit through, it’s probably needed at this point to get appropriate performances AND appropriate judging in - the judging has been pathetic - they must be on a 10 second limit!!!
So overall…
Guys: Clark, Rayon and Quentin are tops. The rest are questionable for me.
Girls: Tyanna, Jax are tops. Not much interest in the rest for me.
So tomorrow we lose one right???
Harry was harsh on Daniel, but he was entirely right IMO. He is way out of his league and oh so awkward on stage.
Qaasim CANNOT SING. DOES NOT SING. He is riding the fumes on his performances. Also, he is a stage hog - watch the background shots - he is jumping around and during Adanna’s performance he was dancing in the picture most of the song. NOT COOL.
Speaking of Adanna - get a bra girl! She never wears one - she NEEDS one!
Nick has been disappointing. Jax, please stop over stylizing your voice - sing naturally! Joey reminds me of the girl on the “Comfy Couch” show.
SOO thankful they saved Quentin. Adorable emotions at the end of his song. I hope he quickly overshadows Qaasim.
Voice wise - strength, technique, pitch - Clark beats all of them for me.
I actually thought Maddie had a strong performance tonight, too, but she is going to have to step it up consistently.
I heard that this show was taped yesterday. I’m sure they edited the judges’ comments down to almost nothing so they could cram 12 performances into one hour.
Okay, in order…Sarina-Joy, just awful, so out of tune. Simon would have told her that she was terrible, but the judges were barely honest. Rayvon, great. Daniel–ugh, why is he here? Maddie, meh, okay. Tyanna, very good, not great. Nick, should be killing it, he is attractive, great voice, experienced, but he needs to find something that works for him. Jax, good, but I just don’t like her type of voice. Qaasim, yuck, why is he still here? Clark, really good. Joey, ugh, why is she still here too, and why does she look like a bag lady? Quentin, yes, no nose ring, much better! Sounded very good to me. Adannas was pretty good, nothing special.
Only really good ones left that I see are Rayvon and Clark.
For me, Clark is at his very best when he does self-accompaniment. Joey, like Jax, is starting to grow on me. My wife walked into the den while Joey was singing and said “What the heck???”. I was disappointed that the top-12 did their audition songs again. Yes the venue changed, the stage was bigger, there was backup musicians, etc., but that wasn’t enough for me to keep my interest. Tyanna is still my favorite. Didn’t love her song, but I think she will peak when the time is right.
I do not like this new format. For only one reason, the performances were terrible! These kids could not sing in tune, it was an assault to my ears. Save a few.
Quassim, that act is getting old. Sing a song! Please! Other than Tyanna, the girls were not great. And the boys, seriously Daniel made it over Mark or Adam. He was awful, has been awful and should not have made the top 24. I like Clark, Nick and Rayvon.
Seriously hoping the singing gets better, because last night it was not good.
Correct that the show was not live and was taped the day before. We will have a one hour show tonight (I think) and then the show goes to a once a week, 2 hour show for awhile with both performances and elims happening in that two hours.
This is painful to watch when you have Joey being among the better performers of the night. The judges and Scott Borchetta are either born liars or clueless. The latter is hard to believe. All those auditions to land this? A few boys are decent. The girls? Meh. The bubbly kid is very good for her age, but that is about it. Hard to think someone is worse than Qassim or the little kid.
I probably will hear better singers on every corner of Sixth Street in a few days.
Qaasim cannot sing. Period. Even Daniel was better than he. Tyanna is great. Jax laid an egg. Rayvon can sing. I liked Joey better tonight. I thought Nick deserved more praise than he got.
