Reminder! AI returns and the season premiere is tonight, Sunday 3/11. it will air on Sundays and Mondays, on ABC…
I love that you posted this. I remember you always posting in the “old” AI days!
I will probably DVR it and give it a try - we were a big AI family always watching when the kids were younger so I can’t NOT try. However I really think it’s goofy they brought it back and I currently feel NO attachment (or interest) in the judges they have picked.
I also remember really enjoying it when the kids were small. After Simon left, I lost interest and stopped watching. I tried it again with JLo and didn’t like her. I’ll give it a try. There’s really not much on network TV that interests me much anymore.
I’ll be watching!
We had so much fun watching this together as a family when it wa first on. We watched very consistently from seasons 2 through about 8 or 9.
I watched tonight and I doubt that I’ll watch again. I thought the judges looked very awkward together and really didn’t think any of the three was good at this. I think I’m over having obviously incapable kids passed through so that they can be laughed at in the audition room. I think this ‘revival’ after what, two years away? was a mistake.
Yep, agree with alwaysamom… disappointing return for the opening night of the Idol reboot. Never been a huge fan of the initial auditions anyway. For me, Ryan Seacrest’s sexual misconduct allegations have really knocked him off his game. He didn’t appear to be his old self. Also read that ABC is paying him $10 mil whereas Fox was paying him $15. In contrast, Katy Perry getting $25 mil. (Fox paid JLo $20 mil). I felt embarrassed when Lionel Richie referred to his fellow judges as “children”— twice. It sounded more condescending than lighthearted.
^^Ugh. I didn’t watch yet. I’m tempted to not watch until the auditions are over. Thank goodness for DVR’s to buzz through an hour in hopefully 20 minutes! Honestly, while Ryan WAS Mr. AI, I think a reboot for his spot might have been a good idea.
Those shows were taped well before the Seacrest allegations came out … unless there were ones back in October I didn’t hear.
Youdon’tsay, I was referring to the original allegation but I believe it is from the same woman.
I have almost never seen American Idol, but I thought I would give it a shot.
I think it’s absolutely awful. Very poor quality contestants overall, and very erratic judging. I would not bother to watch it unless they start getting some better singers. Have they always been this bad as a group, or is it different now? I know some really good people were on it back in the day.
That one chick who described herself as “the best musical theater actress in Colorado” is either a put on or nuts. What the heck was that screeching thing she “sang”? And her behavior afterwards was totally whacked.
I had to turn it off before the end.
Are you guys watching? Wow, the first girl was 15, and was terrific.
Tonight’s show was much better than last night’s.
I haven’t watched tonight’s show yet. Hope I can watch it later somewhere. (I don’t have DVR)
I seem to be in the minority but I enjoyed both nights (save for the dumb behavior and chit chat of the judges, but I hated that with AI since day one!). Were they all great musicians? No. Is there some talent in there? Yes. I look forward to see who gets to finally compete.
What I can’t shake is the way Katy Perry snuck a kiss on that poor unsuspecting young man! If a man had done that to a young woman we’d be all over him like nobody’s business! She needs to keep her hands and lips to herself. Uncool and inappropriate. And yes, I’m a little disturbed that Ryan Seacrest is still the MC. Others have been written out of scripts, shows canceled and more. He is replaceable.
Putting away my soapbox. For now.
Agree, Tuesday show better! Even Seacrest had more sizzle.
My favorite was Laine Hardy, the 17-year-old kid from Louisiana, who sang Hurricane. Whether you are a Country fan or not, you will agree this kid has something special.
I liked many of the singers last night. The entire vibe of the show seemed better. I do wish Katy would stop with the incessant flirting. Some of these kids are underage and it’s getting a little creepy.
I had never heard the Band of Heathens’ Hurricane. Wikipedia calls them a rock band, not country, though this song sounds about as country as you can get. When Laine said that he was playing Hurricane, I thought he was talking about Luke Combs’ version, which is country. Loved Laine’s performance and the song.
ETA: @justamom, I felt the same way about the kiss. Katy needs to get a grip.
You know who I keep going back to? Alyssa Raghu. I hope she holds up, because she had me with that Ariana Grande song.
I just watched night 2 online and I agree it was much better than the first night. I have been watching The Voice and it’s really hard to compare the two. Many of the AI contestants just come in and sing a Capella or with only their guitar while Voice contestants are backed by a full band. I really look forward to hearing some of the AI kids after they are a little more polished.
