Spoke too soon. Caleb was a clinker, I thought.
I cried through most of the mother tributes tonight. I’ve been really emotional this weekend.
And I was surprised by the top 3. I thought they all did well tonight.
Yeah, those mom vignettes were tear-jerkers. As I have all along, I think Caleb is the weakest link.
I like Caleb’s voice, but he lacks in performance. He just needs more confidence. Maddie is not much of a performer, either, though.
Have not seen the show yet however watched most of the performances on YouTube.
Thought Cade truly had one of his best performances with the Lynyrd Skynyrd song. Absolutely loved it. His Carrie Underwood song was not available on YouTube yet so don’t know how he did with his 2nd song. Thought his rendition of Simple Man would earn him at least that 3rd spot. Rockers seem to be at a disadvantage because they really are not solo artists. Cade’s song selection was also more “vintage” than most voters, possibly giving Caleb an edge there.
Having the show being a Carrie Underwood Country theme, in large part, really did favor the 3 who ultimately got the most votes. Katy also seemed to entirely back off her full on Cade love fest tonight, which might have hurt him with the voters. It confused me. Almost seemed like she got served a Cade restraining order this week.
Thanks for the link to Caleb’s, “When Doves Cry” song, jshain. But still not a fan. Very little range in that song and pretty boring. I must be missing something here. I think I recorded it, so hopefully I can see it on my television also. I do appreciate you linking it, though.
busdriver, I have not been a big fan of Caleb all season, along with several others on this thread. When Doves Cry was basically the only song he performed during the entire season that I really liked.
The male Country singer who I wanted to make it further than he did was Laine Hardy. He did not even make it out of Hollywood Week. I think he returns next season and gets to the Live Shows. He has only been “seriously” singing for a very short time— maybe a couple of years. He is very raw. Here is a sample of his work:
About Katy’s affection for Cade, a few weeks ago she commented to Luke, “You’re going to get us written up,” which makes me think the producers told her to stop the remarks, but she still acted “swoony” without saying anything.
Talk about vintage, maybe next week Caleb can perform George Jones and Gabby Patsy Cline. I personally would like that.
Here are the song SPOILERS for Sunday’s FINALS. Don’t forget to vote. Winner will be announced on Monday’s show.
Theme: Hometown Dedication
Caleb Lee Hutchinson – Dallas Georgia – Folsom Prison Blues by Johnny Cash
Maddie Poppe – Clarksville IA – Landslide by Fleetwood Mac
Gabby Barrett – Don’t Stop Believing by Journey
Theme: Winner’s Single
Caleb Lee Hutchinson – Johnny Cash Heart by James Slater, Jay DeMarcus & Kat Higgins
Maddie Poppe – Going Going Gone by Mitch Allan, Lindy Robbins & Julia Michaels
Gabby Barrett – Rivers Deep by Andrew Goldstein, Jessica Karpov, Evan Bogart, Emanuel Kiriakou & Ella Henderson
Not fair - Maddie is the one I’m rooting for, but I love Don’t Stop Believing - and my choir is singing it Sunday afternoon. Maybe it’s for the best - Gabby and Caleb have already picked their genre; I think Maddie is currently more diverse.
@CharlotteLetter what’s not fair?
Caleb is the worst! And messed up. Why is he here??? rhetorical
Why is he in the finals and not Cade? Also rhetorical…
This should become like the Say It Here thread, where we can vent and expect/want no answers. lol
Just watched all the round 1 performances on YouTube. Maddie won the round but, frankly, not by much. Caleb and Gabby looked uncomfortable and both had pitch and timing problems. Caleb totally missed his cue and never seemed to fully recover throughout the song. Glad that Katy didn’t pull any punches on her post-perf critique of Caleb. That was the only comment I heard in round 1 but they couldn’t have been great…
Caleb totally redeemed himself in round 2…
Loved Caleb in round 2. That’s my favorite Keith Whitley song.
I came in late…who is that guy Bobby?
Have watched all 3 rounds on YouTube. Have not seen the Bobby Bones’ sessions or tne hometown clips.
The weakest of the 3, for me, was Gabby. Going into tonight, I had her winning or being the runner up— but not now. I give her credit for performing Don’t Stop Believin’ by Journey. Thought it was a strange yet ambitious song choice. She hit the notes with that great range of hers however I just didn’t like the sound of the notes she was hitting. (Rayshun LaMar, of The Voice, sang that song during his Blind Audition this season and I thought he had a better rendition.)
I do not think Gabby won any of the rounds. I think Maddie won rounds 1 and 3 and Caleb won round 2. I am hoping they finish in this order, based on tonight’s performances:
- Maddie
- Caleb
- Gabby
Edit:Nrdsb4, Bobby Bones is “mainly” a radio personality, specializing in Country music. He has also appeared in some TV.
