American Idol 2018 and Beyond

I believe the order placement gets rotated weekly, at least it does on The Voice. Each AI competitor also sang 2 songs so if they went 1st, 2nd, or 3rd on song #1, they went 5th, 6th, or 7th on song #2.

It still comes into play. You might get a top placement next week…but unfortunately it was THIS week that you got voted off!

abasket, Agree completely that it comes into play. But, is it a manipulation or is it “luck of the draw”?

By saying it is rigged, I meant the process is not fair. Are they “stuffing ballot boxes”? Who knows? Lorenzo certainly did not receive a fair shake a few weeks ago and the judges CLEARLY play favorites. They love Cade and Gabby.

Who does everyone think is leaving this week?

I have a friend who used to keep ridiculous stats on each show, each year. He did a log of contestants and their performance placement - the numbers showed that some contestants that seemed “favored” received better positioning more frequently. This study has not been published. (haha!)

I think Michael gets eliminated and, if so, get ready for the negative press that will likely follow about not having any racial diversity. I’m not making a political point, just stating fact. Does anyone know if the show this Sunday is a single or double elimination?

Here is the remaining schedule:

Saturday May 12 (2 Hours) Top 7 (Repeat)
Sunday May 13 (2 Hours) – Top 5 (Live Show)
Saturday May 19 (2 Hours) – Top 5 (Repeat)
Sunday May 20 (2 Hours) – Performance Finale (Live Show)
Monday May 21 – (2 Hours) Grande Finale (Live Show)

Double, at least according to one of the highly-trafficked blogs.

Thank you, skieurope.

Does anyone think the last 2 standing will be Gabby and Cade, with Gabby winning? (Hope I don’t jinx my favorite, Maddie Poppe!)

You could draw a direct comparison to Season 4, when Carrie Underwood won and Bo Bice was runner up.

I think both Cade and Gabby are very confident and comfortable on stage. I do see the similarity in Carrie and Bo. I honestly thought Bo was going to win that season. But I thought Clay Aiken was going to win over Ruben in
Season 2 (?) so I’m not great about predicting these things!

@jshain I agree with you that Cade and Gabby will be the finalists, but want it to be Caleb and Maddie.

Top-5 perform 2 songs Sunday night from the Carrie Underwood catalog as well as a song dedicated to moms. There will be 2 singers going home at the end of the show, leaving 3 to compete in the finals.

Here are the song SPOILERS:

Cade Foehner
“Simple Man” by Lynyrd Skynyrd
“Undo It” by Carrie Underwood

Caleb Lee Hutchinson
“Stars in Alabama” by Jamey Johnson
“So Small” by Carrie Underwood

Gabby Barrett
“I Have Nothing” by Whitney Houston
“Last Name” by Carrie Underwood

Maddie Poppe
“God Only Knows” by The Beach Boys
“I Told You So” by Carrie Underwood

Michael J. Woodard
“Still I Rise” by Yolanda Adams
“Flat on the Floor” by Carrie Underwood

I personally think both ladies, Gabby and Maddie, make it into the finals. It will be interesting to see who gets that 3rd and final spot. Even though Cade has been my front running male from very early on, I thought Caleb really closed the gap last week on Cade with his performance of “When Doves Cry”. Cade was kind of mediocre last week, imo. It should be an interesting matchup. I think all of the judges, especially Katy, have an obvious preference for Cade. Her repeated displays of affection towards him has been one of the lowlights of this whole season.

I just haven’t been able to catch up and am way behind. It sounds like Caleb has improved, because he used to be rather boring and not particularly special. I like Maddie and hope she can keep going.

@jshain Agree with you about Katy’s affection for Caleb-ugh

busdriver11, Here’s Caleb’s performance of When Doves Cry. Click on any of the 3 but I thought that the first one sounded best. Earbuds/ Headphones are a must!

‘I Have Nothing’ is one of my favorite songs. I can’t imagine it coming from a country singer, though. Should be interesting.

oscar, You said Caleb but I think you meant Cade, in your post # 212.

musicmom, I like that Whitney song also. Hoping Gabby doesn’t sound too nasally…

Caleb has really along nicely. I just watched the When Doves Cry performance, and I thought his voice sounded really rich and beautiful. If he could infuse more emotion in keeping with the lyrics of the song, I think he will have truly arrived.

@jshain yes, meant Cade! Thank you!

Meant to say Caleb has really come along nicely.

I am actually enjoying all the performances tonight. I haven’t said that all season.
