American Idol 2018 and Beyond

Gabby and Cade are still together.

I’m enjoying this season. I love country, but if I didn’t I’d be disappointed.

Katy Perry … ugh. I wish I could selectively tune and blur her out

My biggest disappointment last season was when Country kid Laine Hardy had that one bad performance and was out. Now, he’s baaaack!

If AI has a country slant going on this year I’m out.

Darn. Didn’t see jshain’s reminder until too late to watch. So now I have two AI’s and this week’s The Voice to catch up on. Will AI always be on Wednesdays?

Laine is back?

Youdon’tsay, Yes and so is Alyssa Ragu.

Where did you see that? I loved both of them.

It’s on a couple different blogs. Edit: I believe it is also on their Instagram pages that they auditioned this season.

Push-up drills?! What the… oy.

It used to be I only hated Hollywood Week. Now, I’m looking forward to Hollywood Week because Katy Perry will have less camera time.

I think Eddie Island (round yellow glasses) could go far. I didn’t love his original but thought he was a very interesting and talented artist that will shine when he sings covers.

If Country guy (strawberry farmer) named Kason is Top-10 (according to Katy), this will be a disappointing season for me personally. Great looking guy but just kind of average vocally, imo.

Loved Shayy, the legally blind girl’s voice! But, seemed to lack musicality. Just too mechanical for me.

Really enjoyed Ethan Payne, the kid with Cystic fibrosis. Wish he would have been able to wait another year or two because I felt he needed to develop more vocally.

Show closer Alejandro’s guitar work was just amazing. It will be interesting to hear him sing covers. For me, this stripped down audition exposed some vocal issues so I’m taking a wait and see at the moment— but I’m very intrigued.

Overall, I was a little bored and underwhelmed.

Agree 100%. The kid with CF was a ray of light in this kingdom of meh IMO. The last singer is quite good, but I am not sure I could sit through one of his concerts. And Katy basically declaring him a winner… come on, you are a judge. You can’t have the verdict until all evidence has been presented.

Am I the only one that reads the spoilers (Top 40/20/14) so I can skip or fast-forward through auditions of those that will not be around for long?

skieurope, Why are there spoilers for Idol but not so much for The Voice? Blinds on The Voice were months (?) ago— maybe not as far back as Idol, but some time ago.

@jshain With some holes, the initial teams (and therefore the Blind Audition results), and Battle pairings/results have been leaked. Whether they are accurate is another question, but so far seem to be. As you know, the Knockout Round has been eliminated, and the replacement, the “Cross Battles,” will be live.

I read the spoilers and then watch the auditions anyway! I DVR so I can speed through the fluff/commercials but I like watching and matching faces to the alleged top 14 list that is out there. I find the editing of the show interesting from this perspective too.

Youdon’tsay, This week Laine is back accompanying. But, yes, I think we will see him audition sometime this season, maybe even as soon as Wednesday.

I like the auditions tonight better than any of the previous ones.

Laine was on tonight. I mean, they gave him a ticket.

This is the first night I semi-watched. I’m disappointed to see so many country singer auditions.

Switched to the Aretha Franklin special!

abasket, I only saw audition clips tonight since show has not started on the west coast yet. Did Laine get a ticket to Hollywood Week without having to audition?

Laine was in the room accompanying a friend on his guitar. The judges asked him to sing for them and talked him into accepting a ticket to Hollywood. Of course, I know this was all staged, but that’s how it went down.
