I’m still waiting to be blown away. The last guy (preacher’s kid who works as a janitor) was very good, I thought. I liked the girl that they compared to Kelly Clarkson, but don’t think she’s THAT good.
So what nights is AI going to be on? Their little preview mentioned next Sunday.

Beyond stupid, how they offered Laine Hardy his golden ticket. Felt bad for Ashton Gill. Makes me wonder what jump the shark moment will be used for Alyssa Ragu’s return?
She was a beautiful girl. I don’t think her song choice was very good, but her voice was ok. I hope she is able to break away from just being “Laine’s friend” and is able to stand out on her own.
For you Alyssa Ragu fans, she is back auditioning again tonight! I personally was not a particularly big fan of hers last season but will keep an open mind this season. She did previously make it to the Top-24.
My D can sing and her grandmother was always asking why she didn’t audition for AI. My D finally said it was because she had it too good growing up. She does not have a backstory.
Some of these stories are heartbreaking. The one last week on The Voice where the girl’s house burned and her mother couldn’t start over with all of her kids so she chose to put some of them in a children’s home really got to me. How do you pick the ones to keep and the ones to give away? And the boy tonight who saw his mother drive away and she never came back. That was so sad. How can a mother do that?
Ashley Hess. 27. Late start musically after being a dental hygienist. What a rich, melodic tone. Great musicality. Katy already (prematurely!) said she can win. But, she was my favorite audition of the night and of the season— by a mile. And she’s originally from my area, Fremont CA, before moving to Nashville. Love her!
What bothered me last season with Alyssa Ragu is what I still find lacking— the tonal quality of her voice. She has improved, though, but I just don’t find her voice to be that melodic. She’s definitely more confident, which probably can be attributed to the producers begging her to return this season.
So what did people think of Evelyn (Wicked Game)? Katy loved her and the other two seemed on board as well. I like some aspects of her voice but I thought she was all over the place stylistically. I am curious to hear more songs from her but I think if she sings all her songs like that I will be tired of her quickly.
Evelyn was on the reality show “90 day fiance” a year or two ago, where her now husband came over from Spain to marry and live with her in NH. She was only 18, lived with her parents during the engagement period and IIRC, he lived with her pastor. I’m a wee bit embarrassed that I know this. ; I just find it odd she has made her way onto yet another reality show.
Happy and relieved the auditions are over. On to Hollywood Week this Sunday and Monday…
My clear favorite right now is Ashley Hess, followed by Madison Van Denburg, Laine Hardy, and Laci Booth. For me, the ladies have the edge right now.
I am somewhat disappointed with the overall level of talent so far. Hopefully, some real stars will emerge once the competitors get a full compliment of musicians and backup singers.
psychmomma, His name is Colby Swift. For me, that was one of my favorite auditions this season. I hope he has better luck than Laine Hardy had last season. Even though their voices are different, I see similarities with their rawness, even though Colby is older than Laine was when Laine auditioned last season.
