I assume they did, but they likely studied the forecasts and decided that it was OK to build the stage where it was planned. Barred any hurricanes, January rain in Oahu is not that bad, and it does not go in and on like PNW rain
! It was in fact colder than usual, lower 70s during the day, but no rain. The stage and the area where the judges were sitting had covers; the pit was where the rain would have made life a bit unpleasant for the viewers, but people were brought in an out of there to watch their relatives to compete (the rest I suppose would have toughened it out just for the privilege of being there!).
Is anyone watching? There are so many good performances tonight. I LOVE Alejandro’s voice. So smooth! Some of the people really stepped up and brought their A games!
Oh my. I love Jeremiah too!
The talent is incredible. So different now from how the show was in the beginning as so many of the contestants seem so much more professional and polished early on in the competition.
Jeremiah makes me cry every time. And I love the other ginger, too. Alejandro is only 24 but I thought he was older than that. Some great talent this year. And the sound guy is doing a great job. So many times in the past on these singing shows I can barely hear the singer over the band and background singers. I thought it was my TV or my old ears, but this year, everything sounds good. And I still have the same TV and ears!
Still stuck at work! Rats.
I’m glad it wasn’t just me. Jeremiah also made me cry.
I am so impressed with this year’s talent. I have a couple I’m ready to let go.
I am head over heels in love with Uche!
Uche is a great entertainer. I can’t take my eyes off of him!
Great show on Monday. This would be my Top-10, in the order of my personal favorites, not necessarily on their latest performance:
Laci Booth
Jeremiah Harmon
Ashley Hess
Demitrius Graham
Uche Ndubizu
Wade Cota
Walker Burroughs
Madison VanDenBurg
Riley Thompson
Alejandro Aranda
I could justify putting Laine Hardy in the Top-10, but not the Top-5. Ditto for Eddie Island. Alejandro is on the bubble. He sounds the same vocally on every performance. Even his guitar work looks and sounds the same. I would not be able to put Alyssa Raghu in the Top-10. To me, she lacks authenticity. I liked last season’s Alyssa Raghu better than this season’s version.
What made me the most teary-eyed about Jeremiah, besides his beautiful Top-20 performance, was the fact most everyone’s families were there supporting their children. His were not…
jshain, you and I always disagree on someone. Riley Thompson wasn’t good this week (and I know you said that this isn’t necessarily based on their latest performances, but still). Her Mama’s Broken Heart was barely intelligible and a poor song choice as not a lot of people know it. And then last night’s Jolene was so pageanty. Why is she smiling through it? Is she listening to the words? Again, a poor choice for a 16yo if she’s not going to bother to try to relate. I wouldn’t be surprised to see her stick around, but she is on my list for those who I’m ready to let go.
My list of top 10, in no particular order:
Laine
Laci
Alejandro
Jeremiah
Wade
Walker
Madison
Ashley
Uche
Ryan or Demitrius, who I find intriguing though I’m not fully on board with him
I loved Alyssa last year, but I’m not about her this year. As I said, Riley is not seasoned enough, though I am sure they will keep “America’s Sweetheart.” Harrumph. The men are better this year, though they’ll feel compelled to even out the numbers so it’s not too male heavy.
Youdon’tsay, I agree with your point about Riley disconnecting with the lyrics. She seems a little awkward on stage as well. But, her voice and her looks…
I do not find Evelyn pleasing to listen to. She sounds like her nose is stopped up. I hope she doesn’t make the top 14, but the judges seem to love her.
I like Laine. I think he is top 10 for sure. Agree that there is more male talent this year.
Hope I don’t get into trouble for posting this but here is a clip of Jeremiah Harmon doing Sweet Bitter Love. I love everything about this kid. He is the real deal:
No, but I’m not a big fan of URLs that take up 9 lines, so I edited it.
^Thanks, skieurope.
Riley - too young to sing Jolene, for sure. Reminded me of a little 7 year old I once saw in a talent show…her song…The Man That Got Away…I nearly keeled over!
I also love Jeremiah - and my heart breaks for him.
I’m a fan of Demitrius. I think he could go far.
I love watching Alejandro. There’s a musician, Rodriguez, who I love, and Alejandro reminds me of him.
I think Laine is over the top this season. WTH are “they” trying to do to him? I don’t like it. It certainly doesn’t seem “authentic” as they keep saying.
So far I’m liking the season.
JustaMom, Laci Booth also sang Jolene (night before) but more age appropriate to be singing the song definitely.
