American Idol 2018 and Beyond

Did anyone watch the show with the deep dive of the finalists? Up until I finally got through it, I didn’t understand the appeal of a few of them, and now I have a better understanding. Alyssa Raghu specifically - for me I just couldn’t understand their gushing. Now I’m closer to understanding and I can see the growth. Laine swears he did not go in to audition…I’m still not so sure. He’s good, no denying it, but he’s not my favorite.

Our top two are Madison and Jeremiah.
We liked Ashley a lot, so we were disappointed she left right away.

It’s so interesting to read everyone’s differing opinions here.
We really like Alyssa, so I was surprised to see the negative feedback here, but I guess that explains why she has been at the bottom.

Every week we just wait for Wade and Alejandro to go home, yet they stay. We would have preferred for Uche and Demetrius to stay.

I’m pretty much in agreement with your post, uwalummom!

I finally watched the get-to-know your finalists today. Interesting to learn about them. I never would have picked Jeremiah for a basketball player.

Tuned in today for the first time in years, to catch Adam Lambert coaching the contestants. I don’t mean to be mean, but it has been a struggle for me to watch this show - even Adam can’t save it for me.

At the risk of sounding old, the band was too loud and covered the contestants’ voices. Too much production this season which is not the singers’ fault. I just want to hear them sing.

That said, I think Lacy has a really cool voice.

I loved seeing Adam give advice to the contestants. I still remember being blown away by him in his season of AI, and being dumbfounded that he didn’t win. I need to remember to watch that special tomorrow night on ABC (The Show Must Go On: The Queen + Adam Lambert Story).

Some of the performances tonight were good, but many were just so-so for me. I wish they had chosen more of the mainstream popular Queen songs. I went to youtube to listen to Freddie’s version of a few of the songs, and I couldn’t help but laugh. There is just no comparison possible. Freddie was magnificent, a true one of a kind.

I thought the best sound mixing occurred outside in Ko Olina Hawaii, during the Top 40 Showcase.

Agree about the sound mix tonight. It was especially bad on Walker and Alejandro’s duet. I could barely hear their voices, even after turning the volume up so loud the neighbors could probably hear my TV!

It really bugs me to watch Alyssa Raghu sing uptempo songs. Another huge problem for her… Madison Vandenburg. They occupy similar space but Madison blows her away vocally. Alyssa should NOT have outlasted Uche and Dimitrius, IMO. And others…

Walker and Alejandro’s duet was the worst of the night. I thought both their solo performances were really solid. I think that may have been my favorite Walker performance of the season.

Alyssa going home. The 2nd is a little tougher call. Hoping it’s Wade. Hoping it’s not Walker. Alejandro is such a likable guy!

They love how Alejandro puts his own spin on everything, but IMO, that makes all his songs sound the same. I like him, but he bores me.

What is the theme next week?

^I have not heard.

I watched the Queen + Adam Lambert show tonight. I love Adam. I can’t believe he didn’t win his season, but like they said on the show, losing was probably the best thing that could have happened to him.

I watched it Tuesday night, and thought it was well done. I love him too, and still can’t believe he didn’t win. He was clearly the star of his season. I hope he is as warm and humble as he seemed on the special. His parents seemed nice and supportive of his interests since he was a child. I’m really happy for him.

I can. He should have won, but I fully recognize why he didn’t win.

Adam is so interesting because he comes across as so serious and intense as a performer but so light, happy and laid back in his non stage persona. He comes across as the opposite of Freddy Mercury who in interviews seems like he has his his own private joke and is deeply guarded while still funny. Adam seems completely open. Not surprising given how times changed between Mercury’s adulthood and Adams.

I am shocked and very disappointed.

Same!!!
