“Although I love Jason I have to admit he didn’t do a great job last night. I think he or Brooke should go this week, but it will probably be Syesha. For whatever reason she doesn’t have the fan base others seem to have.”

I couldn’t agree more. … I read in the paper that Carly Simon is a huge fan of Brooke’s, ever since she sang “You’re So Vain.”

“Jason went to Texas A&M…seriously? He got into a college? he comes across an uneducated and culturally illiterate, as well as a dim bulb. I am amazed he went to college. I wonder if he flunked out? Or perhaps they just cut his tapes to emphasize a certain simplicity??” - somemom

I think you’re being rather judgmental, and you’re probably wrong. I wouldn’t be surprised to find out that he is quite a good student. Personally, I think Jason is an adorable young man who is unique, talented and charming to boot!

I agree that these were great moments, along with Jason’s Over the Rainbow. Also one that Michael Johns did on (I think) the first night in Hollywood for the top 24. I’ll have to go hunt for it, unless someone else remembers.

The Paula thing - made me first think (as haven’t we all?) that she is in some substance-induced semi-coma. But my current thought is that she just looked at the wrong set of notes. Meaning… the remarks are all canned. I thought the look on Randy’s face (and somewhat Simon’s) was more a reaction to the give-away on the canned remarks than about her state of mind (or lack thereof).

I think Paulagate mainly shows that they end up having some scripted material generated during rehearsals so thy can seem more “on the ball” for their critiques. I recall Simon having said sometimes about how much better/worse/different something was than in rehearsal but this locks in the notion that the reviews are about more than the one performance. Could explain why David A got a pass for creating a new verse last week - maybe he nailed it earlier in the day?

First time chiming in here
Paula has got to go.Proof last night that her remarks are scripted. I don’t recall the others having note papers in front of them. Was she just too plastered/drugged to even be embarrassed?
David C’s looks (hair.beard) are standard issue for young 'Modern rockers".Its a persona,an affected look very much in vogue in hip places ,like Brooklyn NY.
Ugly to us old ones, but a “look” non the less. Ditto, Jasons white boy dreads…also a look cultivated to show his softer edge, earthy image. In his own way, with the right music he can have a great career I think. He’s just not pop or rock idol material.
Brook does seem pained every time she sings and seems way out of her element.
I dont understand David A’s appeal. He always sounds nasal to me, and reminds me of the kids who always had the leads in the HS musicals. And I don’t want to sound nonPC, but is there something wrong with him socially? He always seems uncomfortable when hes not singing, stands awkwardly, can’t make a coherent sentence when hes interviewed…all that giggiling…almost like a singing idiot savant…Syesha is the closest they have to the old timey Idols who didnt play instrumeents and used the stage more…maybe thats what feels so weird this season…because of the instrumeents they arent moving around much…
I dont see her winning, shes way sassy to Simon and probably rubs the public the wrong way, but I do see her doing Broadway successfully.
Personally, I’d like David C to win, but hope he gets voted off soon ,like Chris Daughtry did, so he can have a more free and lucrative career instead of being locked into the Idol recording contract with its canned song choices.

Not sure if Paula needs an intervention, or she was commenting on what she saw in rehearsals…either way, I previously posted that “Neil Diamond night” was going to be a debacle…I rest my case; Ryan needed roller skates to keep up and the singing was boring…

I heard some celebrity reporter on radio this morning ragging on the show.

The judges no doubt base their comments in part on the rehearsal. I agree that Simon and Randy were thinking, “Thanks for blowing our cover, Paula.” Isn’t it amazing to think that the drivel that comes from Paula was actually written beforehand, that there was forethought involved??? Notice that when they do the roundup with the numbers to call to vote that the video doesn’t match what you just saw. They do those roundups off the rehearsals so they have time to put it together.

sonssecty: well, my teens have never accused me of being judgmental  okay, yes they have.

Every one who watches idol in our gang thinks Jason comes across as a dim bulb- adorable, sweet, good within his certain style though not, perhaps, as able as some of the others to switch genres well, but dumb. My point is that if he is bright enough to go to Texas A&M and be almost a senior, he cannot be that dumb, so either he is not great on his feet and does not speak well and/or they are purposely editing his tapes that way. Think of any reality show and how much a producer can shape the way a contestant comes across…braodcasting a few minutes of hours & hours of film.

If he is not simple then why are they doing that to him. If I were his Texas A&M buddies I would be annoyed at the editing.

I think he’s just laid back. I know some awfully brilliant males who would appear that way when on stage or being interviewed. Especially young ones.

I’ll have to admit I was surprised to read he’s a student at TAMU, and those beliefs are based on my prejudgment of how he looks. He looks more like a student that would thrive in Austin, especially given its music scene.

And as a UT alum, I have no bias here, whatsoever :)

I don’t want to see Syesha leave or Brooke. Not that I think either one will win, but I can’t stand to see either of them go before Jason… he is definitely this year’s Sanjaya.

I think Jason has had some better “moments” on Idol than Sanjaya ever did, but for the most part, I agree with you. … Syesha has never caught on with the fans–or some of the judges–but she’s one heck of a talented girl. And Brooke definitely has her niche.

I’m hoping it will be Brooke leaving but as voteforthrworst is encouraging people to vote for her it will probably be Syesha or Jason. I started off really liking Brooke but almost dread her performance now.

I also liked Brooke at first, but as the field whittled down, she lost some of her early panache. David Cook is the standout in this field. Syesha should have an amazing future on Broadway and David Archuleta will be successful somewhere, at some point. All are very, very good singers.

I still like Brooke but you can see the fear in her eyes…same with Jason - he has talent but in front of the camera - he’s a disaster.
When he sings, I listen, I don’t watch him (sorry, hate the dreads).
Lets send Syesha off to Broadway now…
David A sounds the same every song, every week…
David Cook needs a makeover from the “Queer Eye” guys :)

At this point especially, there’s no logic involved in who gets booted off. The fact that it’s really a popularity contest bugs the heck out of me, but hey that’s how the show is set up. Brooke should go, or Jason, but don’t be surprised if it’s Syesha, or even David A. Man, did that irk me last year when incredibly talented Melinda Doolittle (now SHE gave me chills) was off before that twerpy Blake or whatever his name was. It still amazes me that out of 100,000 tryouts, Jason and Brooke are among the last 5.
