Oh, man. I love “Don’t Want to Miss a Thing” and I love Steven Tyler and I loved David’s version. Finally a homerun tonight!!!

momof3,
I particularly love this Billy Joel song, but didn’t care for this rendition.

I couldn’t understand why Simon picked “The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face” for David C., but was blown away by the performance. Loved the closing song! If David C. doesn’t win, I will be seriously disappointed.

I have to say that I hated the arrangement of “Don’t Want to Miss a Thing” … one of my favorite songs by Aerosmith but the violins in the beginning of the song were really xxxxing me off. However, David C did an awesome job vocally and I agree he should take it all.

kind of funny - my daughters were the original AI fans in the house, and are both home this week, so we were all watching it. D2 is a vocal performance major, so I was interested in her insight - she has not watched the show all season, so this was her first seeing any of them.

Her take is she loves David A.; I tried to explain to her that his song choices were finally more diverse tonight, and that for the most part, people have kind of become bored with him. But I have to say he did do well tonight. David C’s voice was kind of pitchy tonight, and was shaky on his first song. His third song was excellent. Sayesha was good, but I agree with others (and maybe one of my previous posts?) that she will do well on Broadway.

So my wish at this point… Sayesha gets kicked of tomorrow so she can pursue Broadway options. David C. gets second place so that he can pursue his own style of recording and not be confined to the AI contract and style of singing - he will succeed doing his own style much better than what AI will do to him. David A. will win, and without other options toward success, will do well for a 16-year old. By the time his AI contract runs out, he will be mature enough to develop his own style and be a successful recording artist. However, I hope they pay more attention to his maturing vocal abilities and don’t put him at risk for vocal cord injuries by overusing him.

Overall, I thought it was a pretty odd night. Many times I don’t really notice how “short” the songs are, but I really noticed with David C. tonight. It just was weird. Also very strange song choice for David A–the Dan Fogelberg one especially. Syesha–actually liked her last song the best. The other two bored me but did show me she will have a great career as an actress.

I haven’t had any “it gives me chills” moments this season. Kind of a let down for me overall. Again, David C is excellent but I think he has this attitude that comes across the screen I don’t really like. David A–great voice, but I’m bored now. Syesha waited too long to let her personality show through. When she did tonight it was just strange.

I agree the Dan Fogelberg song for David A was a horrible choice by the “producers”. ( I don’t remember “producers choice” being part of the show in prior years). As far as memorable performances, I really liked the Andrew Lloyd Webber night. David C’s “Music of the Night” gave me chills. And I also loved David A’s “pop” version of “Think of Me”.

I wish the show had gone an extra half-hour so they could have performed full songs. By this point, I want to hear them carry a full three minutes worth of song.

Disappointing night I thought. Not one home run. Not one performance really moving. JMHO.

Doesn’t mean they’re not great and talented, but tonight… eh.

David C. is probably my favorite, but often it sounds like he’s channeling Eddie Vedder. Didn’t see last night’s show, but it was the first thing that came to mind (again) when hearing clips of his songs on the radio this morning.

Think all three are very talented, though, so no chance of a Taylor Hicks-type shocker this year.

The two Davids have been my favorites from early on. Actually, it was the three Davids, before David Hernandez was eliminated. I find Syesha very irritating, and I doubt that she has a Broadway career ahead of her. Broadway careers don’t happen that easily. It’s possible that she could be stunt cast in a show, like Fantasia, Anwar Robinson, or Clay Aiken were (but who were more talented) , but it’s doubtful that she’d be able to sustain more than that in theatre. She isn’t as talented as previous AI alumni who have done so, e.g., Tamyra Gray, Frenchie Davis, Jennifer Hudson, Diana DeGarmo, Josh Strickland, or even Constantine Maroulis.

I’m such a loser I just watched parts of the tape of AI and have three thoughts:

1) David Cook is the best by far.

2) I’m starting to feel like the woman who held up the “Cougars 4 Cook” sign.

3) Really, what was David A. thinking with that Chris Brown song? I taped the show because everyone but me had something going on, and I knew my 13yo and dh would want to watch it. When he started singing With You, my 13yo groaned and my 15yo came out of his room, where he was studying, and said, “I can’t believe he’s singing this.” I Googled the lyrics for anyone not familiar with the song. I’m sorry, but I don’t see David calling anyone his boo:

I need you boo
I gotta see you boo
And there’s hearts all over the world tonight
Said there’s hearts all over the world tonight
I need you boo
I gotta see you boo
And there’s hearts all over the world tonight
Said there’s hearts all over the world tonight

Hey lil mama, ooh you’re a stunner
Hot little figure, yes you a winner, and
I’m so glad to be yours
You’re a class of your own and
Ooh little cutie, when you talk to me
I swear the whole world stops

etc …

I don’t think Syesha has much of a career ahead of her either, unless she can be packaged as R&B. I actually liked her doing Tina Turner. David C looks like he’s ready to go home - I think his voice is strained. I cannot even watch David A. He’s just too strange form me - with the half closed eyes and awkwardness. I don’t see a career for him either - past the Tiger Beat teens - dating myself now.

Okay, I’ll say it again, I LOVE Steven Tyler and don’t want anyone other than him singing Aerosmith songs. That being said, my favorite is still David C, but those violins were SO annoying and loud! I really liked his First Time Ever…it gave me goosebumps just like his ALW night performance. The one performance I really didn’t like was his Duran Duran. If he’s going to cover them I want to hear Save A Prayer - that would be awesome.

I agree with the poster(s) who didn’t like David A’s With You performance. Yikes - terrible, as was the Dan Fogelberg (sp?) song.

How old are the producers? Did they spin the Wheel of Fortune to come up with those crappy song choices?

I’m sure it has to do with paying royalties. They don’t have to pay on the old stuff?

I’m a sucker for a cheesy song like “I Go Crazy” by Paul Davis [YouTube - Paul Davis-I go Crazy](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_L886mjb0O8) Check out the '70s hair on the guys. Really dating myself here, but I was in HS.

and even Dan Fogelberg. :)

I Go Crazy is one of my favorite songs ever, David C could sing that for me any day as long as it’s the full version. Those abbreviated songs make ME crazy.

maysixxmom, we may have been separated at birth!

bumpin’ up again

It looks like it will be David C vs. David A. I think they are the two best. It should be fun next week.

My favorite moment of the night - the look on Simon’s face during the performance by Fantasia. Cracked me up.

^^^
that was priceless! What were they thinking when they allowed her to do that performance?
