^^^^ ditto - I can’t imagine him in spamalot. Which part does he play? We saw it in it’s pre broadway test run in Chicago with David Hyde Peirce, Hank Azaria etc

One of the best AI winners in my opinion was Reuben Studdard–but, like Taylor Hicks, he just didn’t have the broad appeal for an enduring big-time career. He did the “Celebrate Me Home” song for this year’s booted-off contestants.

SO, a person performing on Broadway, 8 shows a week needs a certain strength and substance to their voice? Is that something a talented, but untrained person could develop or is that the difference between a nice (pleasant, in tune, nice to listent to) voice and a poweful voice that has that strength naturally?

I really wish I understood music better, people like the composers who virtually hear the song in their heads are just a mystery to me. When the judges said things were pitchy I had not heard it in most cases- I just don’t know anything about it and don’t discern the differences.

Give me math and I can see the numbers in my head, I can spot and get stuck on an inconsistency in logic (helps a lot ferreting out fake teen stories :D) and I imagine it must be like that in music for people who are gifted in music. I find it fascinating.

I just bought my daughter a book called “The Idiot’s Guide to Music.” Maybe I could use it too!

Jennifer Hudson is an extremely talented young lady. She is one of the ‘mistakes’ made by early elimination over the years on AI. Almost as unfortunate as Tamyra Gray’s early dismissal!
cartera, she has done several theatre-ish things in NYC, including the fabulous Actors’ Fund benefit a few years ago of Hair. If you ever see the cd, it’s a good one to buy.

Clay played Sir Robin in Spamalot. He was well-received and droves of his fans bought tickets while he was there. His run ended a couple of weeks ago.

somemom, success in the theatre is a very difficult thing to explain and to predict! If you have a few minutes, take a look at the Musical Theatre forum here on CC and read a few threads. It’s an incredibly difficult process to apply to college programs to study theatre, and an even more difficult task to earn a living doing it. A friend of mine who has been involved in theatre for 30+ years describes it this way - Being able to earn a living in theatre, ANYwhere, is like making the big leagues of any professional sport; doing it on Broadway is like being chosen for the All-Star team. The reality is that 95% of Equity (the actors’ union) actors are unemployed at any given time in NYC. Add on the thousands of non-union actors who are also looking to book work, and you can get some idea of how difficult it is to be cast in even ONE Broadway show. Keep in mind that hundreds, thousands probably, are talented enough to play each and every role currently running.

As for the voice, it is a combination of talent, strength, and health which allows Broadway actors to be able to perform eight shows a week. If they do not take care of their instrument (their voice), they are likely to have vocal chord issues and often it is very difficult to un-do that damage. Most are very well trained vocally, with years of voice training, most of whom continue working with vocal coaches even once they reach that level.

A pretty mean-spirited site.

Remember how I told you guys about a bunch of the kids at Texas A&M voting for Jason Castro so that AI would bring him there for a concert and all that if he were in the top 3? Well when my S came home from A&M this week, he told me something funny about that.

He said that a Houston radio station d.j. was imploring on the air on Tuesday, “Aggies, stand down!! You do NOT want this guy representing you! The whole country is going to associate Texas A&M with Jason Castro!”

S said that same sentiment was starting to move through campus anyway, so Jason’s goose was pretty much cooked there. :-)

Thanks, alwaysamom

Speaking of Hicks: [Taylor Hicks to play Teen Angel in Broadway’s `Grease’](http://www.austin360.com/news/content/shared-gen/ap/Recordings/People_Taylor_Hicks.html)

Ughhh … what’s with the cheesy boxing references?

I’m waiting for another 20 minutes or so before I watch. Then I’ll just zoom through the “witty” banter and focus on the good stuff.

wow, round 1. Loved David Cook, Loved David Archuletta.

agh… I’m stuck in the Philadelphia airport! We got Tivo a couple of weeks ago, and today is the first time I tried to Tivo from my internet here in PA. I guess I’ll find out if it worked or not when I get home tonight.

I just can not stand David Archuletta.

David A’s voice tonight has been flawless. He may be an awkward shy teenager, but then again he is only 17.

Still Love David C. though. They both have a solid fan base. Could go either way I guess.

I’m waiting until the last song is sung before I give my vote.

David A stole the night. I have never heard him ever sound so clear, crisp…flawless. David Cook was good. David A. was amazing. I would buy his version of both Imagine and the first song he sang (dont let the sun come down on me). His immaturity does grate on my nerves but I could listen to him sing anytime.

From the beginning I’ve been the rare (at least here) non-teenage non-female David Archuleta fan. He’s consistently given me goosebumps…not even a minibump from David C.

I like David C but imo David A’s in a different league. David C is good, talented, entertaining. But nothing seems to really set him apart. David A has that rare voice that comes along every few years. I don’t care if he closes his eyes or does that weird cry-thing…he’s incredible.

Well after all three songs by both Davids, I have to say “A” stole the night. I liked him from the very beginning but then “C” kind of grew on me and I liked his rocker style. “A” tried singing out of his zone a few times and it didn’t work out too well for him. “C” seemed to have a better success with a variety of songs.

But the bottom line is you can’t take “A’s” voice away from him, hands down better than “C’s”.

We’ll see how America votes in about 24 hours.

At the beginning of the season I liked David A then I started to get bored. After tonight I like him again. He did a great job with all three songs. It just seemed he was on a higher level tonight. David C did very well also, but didn’t quite bring it up a level for me.

I did think it was kind of rude for Randy to crown David A the winner though, same with Simon.
